Chapter 767 Get Out Of The Car
Chapter 767 Get Out Of The Car
But what was Toby trying to pull off making her look like she's being hard to reason with? Those who didn't know would definitely think that the two of them were in a little altercation.
"Accompany me to the hospital." Toby took advantage of his wounded self.
Veronica Parker looked at him helplessly. Was he guilt-tripping her? Who's ruthless now?
Suzanne's mood turned really sour as she held the steering wheel with her trembling hands, while containing her anger, but can only bear it for too long!
Now she's become the driver of Toby and Veronica.
Was there anything more ridiculous than this?
Only she knew that by looking at them from the rear-view mirror, Toby held a hopeful heart towards Veronica who was sitting beside him with no traces of expression that could be made out from her countenance.
As Veronica looked outside the window, Toby's warm palm fell onto the back of her hand, which brought her back to her senses.
If she intended on pulling back her hand, Toby would only tighten his hold.
Veronica did not move. She couldn't possibly do any harsh movements as she would likely contribute more to the worsening state of his wound. She just stared at him instead.
The road they were at was suddenly blocked by a car, and it was a good thing that Suzanne was sharp enough to step on the brake before they crashed.
A black Rolls-Royce lied dormant in front of them like a beast about to wake up from its hibernation. Toby and Veronica at the back seat were kept safe by their respective seatbelts before looking past the windshield only to see the intimidating Rolls-Royce.
Everyone in the car seemed to have known what had just happened and a tension suddenly rose around them. The air in the car began to get thinner that the three of them were catching their breaths.
The cars and the pedestrians passing on the road were forced to reroute so that the flow of the traffic would not be jammed further.
It seemed like they were the only vehicles on the road.
It's like a fight. A showdown.
As Toby was holding Veronica's hand, he sensed that she was having cold sweats, and he couldn't help squeezing her hand to let her know that he was with there.
But that was the problem. She was with Toby, and even after trying her best to suppress the fear in her heart, Veronica felt that the fright was ceaselessly rising in her chest. Even if she can't see the person aboard the Rolls-Royce, she already knew who it was.
The devil arrived before them, and so she cannot take a step forward.
"Do you think we are like unlucky mandarin ducks who eloped even when both our parents did not like either of us?" Toby asked jokingly.
How Toby was deliberately taking in the situation with that insouciance reaction of his did not ease the queasiness Veronica was feeling at the moment.
The colors drained from Veronica's face when her cell phone rang, indicating that she received a text message and she turned her neck stiffly.
Even when she was taking out the cell phone from her backpack, her senses were on a haywire and when she finally opened the text message only to see a few dangerous words, she felt her heart hammered her chest so loud that she was afraid Toby and Suzanne would hear it.
The message she got was: Are you sure you don't want to get out of that car?
The sensation of threat, compulsion and extreme fear spread over Veronica! How could she possibly get so petrified over a simple message?
To be able to send such a text message implied how impatient Nick was becoming.
If she didn't get out of the car, she had no other choice but to face the consequences. Whether she could afford it or not was still a question.
The timely appearance of Nick appeared to have been perfectly calculated.
"What are you going to do?" Suzanne asked, looking at Veronica.
Obviously, this car was fetching Veronica Parker.
Suzanne said, "Actually, Veronica, as long as you're out of the car, you won't embarrass Toby! That is, unless you really want to."
"Suzanne!" Toby gave a low growl that it frightened Suzanne so much. When he realized that he had scared her, his voice returned to normal. "Don't talk such nonsense."
Veronica had hardly begun to speak when Toby interrupted her.
"Are you going to compromise all the time?" Toby asked.
Veronica's eyes became hazy. Compromise? It sounded really pensive.
"I'll go down with you." He opened the door to get out of the car first, still not letting go of Veronica's hand and directly pulled her out of the car.
Suzanne remained in the car with an angry look on her face.
Was Toby that desperate to die to undoubtedly present himself at the disposal of Nick?
She felt like she really didn't want to take care of him anymore, and just drive away from there to protect herself.
But she still didn't have the heart to do it. She didn't want Toby to be backhandedly killed by Veronica.
