Chapter 768 The Death Of The Heart Is More Painful Than The Death Of The Body
So, Suzanne also pushed the door and got out of the car. It was now or never!
Veronica withdrew her hand before totally getting out of the car.
She appeared submissive for not daring to do such a thing in front of Nick.
But of course, she wasn't sure if Nick would lose control, and it's always better to be safe than sorry.
Toby didn't reach out for her hand again and said, "Wait for him to get out of the car. I have a plan."
Veronica looked at him uneasily. "Toby, whatever you are thinking right now, you have to promise me that you would take it easy! Remember that you're still wounded."
"I'm calm." Toby appeared dire, accompanied by his low voice. "You blindingly giving in to fear will only make him worse."
The bodyguard opened the backseat door and a pair of firm, strong legs came into view first before Nick graced the highway with his tall figure which was so powerful that Veronica's pupils collapsed.
Nick's eyes fell on Veronica, and the look on his stare was terrible. "Come here!"
She looked at him coldly. She didn't want to go back to Nick at all! It had nothing to do with whether wanted to be with Toby or not. Veronica just wanted to stay away from him.
But he commandeering her had always made her feel very tormented.
Whether it's her body or her soul.
"Now, go!" Toby suddenly said.
Veronica was slightly stupefied. She thought that Toby would not let her go when they finally face Nick.
She even thought that she should make a choice quickly before things got out of control.
This was what Toby told her? His plan?
She didn't understand.
Before she could even think, her feet moved on their own towards where Nick was standing.
When she walked past the side of him, she trembled as she was extremely nervous until she got on the black Rolls-Royce.
After making sure that she was comfortably seated, the bodyguard closed the door beside her, cutting off any line of sight from her side.
Toby took two steps forward and drew closer to Nick before taking his attention from Veronica. "Nick."
"Toby, am I being too kind to you?" There was a usual animosity in Nick's voice, and his whole being seemed to have just risen from the underworld.
"Well, you don't have to be kind to me." Toby said. "But I'd like to discuss something with you. This way, Veronica doesn't need to have any more worries about coming to me."
Nick Cage was quiet, but he was obviously restraining himself. After all, they were still at a public place!
"I'd also like to know, is there anything you can do to keep her by your side besides threatening her?" Undaunted by the terrible aura emitting from Nick, Toby continued, "I've been with Veronica for two years, but I've known her for more than four years, you see? When I first met her, she was a cute girl, stupid and smart, shining brightly like the sun, that I could not take my eyes off of her."
"This kind of recollection of yours doesn't make any sense!" Nick was as cold as winter, while flailing his arms.
"Every time you try so hard to pull her down with you, it won't be long until she wouldn't have to put up with you, would she?" Toby taunted.
Nick stepped forward and his black eyes fell on the window.
The window was so dark that no one could see through it from outside, but Veronica sitting restless inside felt that she was being given by intense gazes probably coming from Nick.
And her body froze.
What was Toby saying to Nick?
The sound insulation was so effective that she couldn't hear a buzz from outside.
But Nick's eyes started to become so creepy.
"It is hard to admit, but I know her better than you do! The more you push her, the closer she will get to me! Then, she will be mine"
Nick's body tensed together with the knotting feeling of his heart.
"Sometimes the death of the heart is more painful than the death of the body, isn't it?" Toby mocked.
Nick said in a very noxious voice, "You won't have such a chance!"
With that, he went straight to the car, and the bodyguard closed the door.
