Chapter 88 Frightened
Chapter 88 Frightened
The cigarette between Nick's fingers was scarlet like ghosts under the night sky. It made him look dangerous and dark. "Want to sleep in my bed? I can give you a chance."
"I definitely don't mean that!" Veronica Parker replied. "The sofa is fine. I'm sleepy. I'm going to sleep now."
With that, she hurried to the living room.
It was not easy to escape from his claws. If she touched his inverse scale again, she will not have such luck.
Veronica was lying curled up like a poor little thing on the sofa.
She was really scared and exhausted.
What would it like to be in a room with Nick? What was the difference between this and a wild animal in a cage? Would he eat her while she was asleep?
Veronica was afraid to sleep. She wondered if Nick was now resting. Would he still come her way?
Veronica has slept with her children every day ever since she gave birth to them.
It was always empty without the children.
She didn't know if they would wake up at night to find her. If they won't see their mother, they would cry.
It was unbearable for Veronica.
She fell asleep in the dead of night with nostalgia.
In the morning, as a habit, Veronica touched the space around her but space next to her was empty. That frightened her and she woke up.
She sat up and looked around. She was wondering where she was before her mind regained its wits.
The child was not around because she was not at home.
Veronica was not able to continue her sleep. It was almost four o'clock, so she just sat there and waited for dawn.
She waited until dawn and until 08:00 am but there was no movement in the bedroom.
She was thinking if Nick was no longer in the bedroom? Did he leave while she was asleep?
Veronica crept up to the frosted glass and listened inside with her ear to the glass. It was really quiet as if there was no one with her in the house.
She simply opened the door quietly and went out.
As soon as she turned around, she was startled by the person who appeared behind her. "You."
"Hello, I am Bob, the housekeeper of Winter Villa."
"Oh, hello, I am." Veronica's self-introduction was stuck in her throat. She was a nobody. "Is Mr. Cage awake?"
"Mr. Cage is not awake at this time."
Veronica thought, couldn't she just run away like what she did three years ago?
Veronica gave Bob a dry smile. She moved against the corner, turned, and left.
Bob watched her run without saying a word.
Veronica Parker ran into the corridor and remembered that the elevator was this way. Why was she not able to find it now? She went around again but she still didn't see the elevator. The key was to go back the same way because she can't find the right direction.
What the heck was going on? The house was so big! It was like a maze.
Veronica frowned, she was trying to find a way out.
After she looked for it for more than ten minutes, she looked up and saw that Bob was standing in front of her.
Veronica Parker was embarrassed, did she come to the origin again after a round trip? "Excuse me, which way is the staircase?"
"Turn right ahead." Bob gave her instructions.
"Thank you."
Veronica came out of Winter Villa and ran out of the gate.
The direction of the broad daylight was easier to distinguish. Veronica saw the vast expanse of green forest. She saw the palace-like Winter Villa surrounded by it.
She didn't see anyone else.
It took Veronica 30 minutes to walk out. She was really swearing as she walked. Lisa called to ask her why she didn't go to work. She asked for a half-day off.
After a thrilling night, Veronica realized the seriousness of the problem.
What Nick felt was not a momentary hatred at all.
He won't let her go.
She was frightened.
