FORTY-ONE
Kamilla Lopez
The white light interrupts my vision to be lucid, still with my head spinning, I drag my eyes around the hospital room, the place was empty, only I was in the room lying on the bed. I looked at my body, I wore a disposable apron and a white sheet covered my legs. I try to bring one of my arms up to my head, but it's stopped by a needle stuck in my arm. With the other available hand, I put it on the mattress and press to sit on the bed. I hear the door open and the person who walks through it is Carolina and Bianca, in both hands there were coffee cups, as soon as they saw me they approached quickly.
— Thank God you woke up, I thought I wasn't going to wake up anymore!
— How long have I been here?
— You have a few hours.
— I came as soon as Dona Carolina called me, you gave us a fright.
— What happened?
— You passed out. — Dona Carolina answers.
— How it feels?
— I'm still dizzy, other than that I'm fine.
— I'll call the doctor.
A few minutes later, Dona Carolina appears at the door giving the passage to the doctor, the man was a gentleman of almost 50 years old, he approaches me and greets me.
— Good morning, Miss Lopez.
— Good morning, Doctor.
— You gave your relatives quite a fright, are you feeling anything?
— A slight dizziness, but I already feel very well, can I go?
I ask, euphorically, I hate hospitals.
— Patients miss, you have a slight case of anemia, you need to eat well from now on.
— You can leave it, doctor, I will be responsible for feeding her.
— Excellent! Levels are moderate, he had a slight drop due to poor diet, but in a few days he will be back to normal.
—HCG? — Bianca asked, confused. — Isn't that the pregnancy hormone?
— Yes, I pulled your hospital history and I realized that you haven't started your prenatal care yet, I advise you to do it as soon as possible.
The three of us were without a plausible expression for the doctor, I looked at Carolina and Bianca, they were as shocked as I was. Your eyes go down to my belly,
— She is pregnant? — Dona Carolina asks, petrified.
— Yes.
— My God..... I'm pregnant! — I mumbled in shock.
— So you didn't know, oh my God. — the doctor apologizes.
— My God, Kamilla, are you pregnant?
— How am I pregnant, doctor? I've always taken care of myself, I take medicine daily.
— I'm going to be a grandma....
— Contraceptives are not 100% effective, how long have you been using them?
— It's been a few weeks.
— You've been pregnant for about a week, it's pretty recent.
— I'm going to buy some clothes.... — Dona Carolina continues.
— The contraceptive can fail at certain points, even when you are already pregnant, although it won't harm the baby, I recommend that you spend the night in the hospital.
After the doctor convinced me to stay overnight, Carolina continued to be surprised by the news of the pregnancy. I still couldn't believe that I'm pregnant, pregnant with Nick Ross, I can't believe it, I know we had to sex many times without a condom, but from the moment I lost my virginity I started taking contraceptives.
— Say something.
— I knew it was going to suck!
— My God kami, you're pregnant, I'm so sorry my friend.
— Don't talk like that, Bianca, that's not the worst thing in the world.
— That's because he's still in the oven.
— Dramatic.
— I am realistic.
— Stop the drama Bianca, grandma will help during and after the pregnancy, grandma will love it very much.
They approach me and hug me tightly, I'm still nervous and scared by the news, but I'm also happy to know that in my womb I carry a baby.
— Are you going to tell Nick?
My smile died, I know I didn't make the baby myself and whether Nick is the father of my child, I don't know if I have the strength to tell him I'm pregnant.
— I don't know.
— You didn't make that baby with your Kamilla finger.
— True, he deserves to know he's pregnant.
— I'm aware of that, but we just ended the relationship and....
— No justification.
— Rest, think, reflect a little, are you going to let the child come into the world with the father present?
— She's right.
— You made such a beautiful couple, the child will be born a demigod.
Hours later they left, and I stayed in the hospital, I spent the whole night thinking about whether to talk to Nick or not. I never imagined that I would become a mother, I never stopped to think about it, and now, more clearly, I see that I will have a great learning experience throughout my life. I will be a mother, I never think about abortion or adoption, I would never abandon my baby, I will not have the same attitudes they had with me. As I grew up, I asked myself a lot about being an orphan, but today, I see that those who abandoned me didn't give me a better gift than this one, with the abandonment I learned to be strong and independent.
The following morning after breakfast I was released, Dona Carolina and Bianca came to pick me up, we went back home, lying in bed I was welcomed by Zeus. Throughout the week Dona Carolina took care of me and my food, she always kept me company, so I wouldn't feel alone. Bianca often came to visit me, on one of her visits she brought two clothes, one pink and one blue, we spent the whole day talking about possible names that the baby would have. In a week I was already better, better than the supposed day I left Nick, thinking about him, I didn't see him anymore, much less Erick, possibly he's busy with his bandit stuff.
With my health restored, I tried to look for a new job, after all now that I'm pregnant and unemployed I need to think about the future, soon I'll need to buy clothes, products and baby objects, I know I won't earn as much as I did in the nanny job, but it will be enough to support me and Dona Carolina for a while. At certain points she questioned me about not having told Nick about the pregnancy, I know I could be wrong to hide it, but I need time, and I have a few months to tell her.
While I still couldn't find work, Bianca visited me constantly, always trying to convince me to go out with her. Now on Saturday night, Bianca came up with two boxes of pizza and soda, when she was about to eat a skirt, I hear Dona Carolina's voice.
— No nonsense!
— It's not silly, there's greenery on top.
— Good Kami! — Dona Carolina casts a death glare at Bianca. — Bad Kami, very bad!
During the night Bianca tried to encourage me to go to the beach with her, I was afraid to go, after all I never liked open places as much as the beach.
— Come on, baby Dragon, please.
— I don't know....
— We can go to Cahoot, we can see the sanctuaries of sloths, take a dip in that icy, crystalline water.
— Do you want to visit your sisters?
— Please, I don't want to go alone.
— Okay, be ready by eight, we'll be back before dark.
— Thank you, my favorite pregnant woman.
She says goodbye to me and leaves, Dona Carolina stayed talking to me, then she went to her room and left me alone with Zeus, minutes later I went to the room, did my hygiene and lay down on the bed being dominated by sleep.
