Desperate for her
“WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU, DYLAN”
Raging like a bull, Brandon stormed inside the cabin of the Mafia while his men tried holding him back. He slammed the door shut before scanning the luxurious office to locate the perpetrator and found him sitting on the chair with his eyes glued to the screen.
His blare overpowered the constant clicking sound of the keyboard as Dylan halted and lifted his head to shoot him a glare.
“This is not your garden that you can barge in whenever you want to.”
“Shut up,” Brandon admonished and stood in front of him, “I am not a fan of risking my life to meet a Mafia. After knowing how you terrorized Evelyn and even went to drop her home, I don’t even want to see your face.” He growled and looked away as annoyance dripped from his face.
“Then why are you here?”
Brandon let out a growl, his jaw clenched as he turned to Dylan who was as usual giving him his famous glacial stare.
“Because you’re not only putting your life in danger but mine and Evelyn’s too. Do you have any idea what will happen if Xander comes to know that you’re in San Francisco and went to meet Evelyn? He is working with the police you fool. This tendency of yours to go amok even at the slightest thing will kill every one of us one day.” He read him the riot act.
Dylan smirked and leaned back on the chair.
“Care about yourself, I can handle my wife. And consider it my last warning, Evelyn is off limits so stay away from her,” he pressurized the last part.
Brandon shot him a stink eye. A vein popped in his forehead as he was completely done with the gangster and his niggling green-eyed monster.
“Well, I would have stayed away if her husband wouldn’t have been a dick.”
He shot back.
The smile on Dylan’s face instantly dropped. Clenching his jaw, he straightened his spine and lowered his gaze.
“I have learned my lesson and you know that Bear.”
A thick silence followed after his reply. Brandon gazed at Dylan who looked rueful. He was aware that he has changed and can even risk his life for Evelyn but his stubbornness and slapdash attitude would only lead him into trouble.
And no matter how much Brandon hates Dylan, his concern for him is what always pulls him to help his sick friend.
Heaving a deep sigh, Brandon spoke, “I know that’s why I am helping and keeping up with all your shits. But what you’re doing will only push Evelyn away from you. Cherish her not scare her,” he tried to make him understand.
“Yeah, and that’s why I want her with me. I want her to stay beside me, stick with me the whole time, or else I’ll lose my mind.” Dylan seethed as he rubbed his face in frustration.
Pushing his chair back harshly, he stormed towards the window. Brandon watched his back as Dylan dipped his hands in the pocket of his pants and rumbled.
“For fucking two years I stayed away from her, Brandon. Don’t you know how hard it was for me? Every pain I inflicted on her escaped through my eye in the form of tears. First tracing her was a hell of a task and when I found her, still I afford to meet her. I could only watch her from afar and live in the constant fear of getting myself exposed. But the fact that I can’t hold her killed me Brandon yet I had to rein in my emotions so that I can protect her from all the hungry eyes. But see what I got in return after taking so much pain for my wife.”
He paused and rested his forehead on the glass pane, “She hates me thinking that I am some psychotic stalker and a murderer when everything I did was to save her,” he spoke sadly.
Brandon listened to him. He felt bad for him.
“I know but still, that doesn’t justify your action of kidnapping her from the hospital under everyone’s nose.”
“Because I was desperate,” Dylan shouted as he wheeled around and glowered at him.
“I couldn’t resist the urge of taking her away with me when I came to know that she had a panic attack. You don’t know how much scared I was. But at the moment, it felt right to me. Her safety mattered to me the most and the need to protect her blinded me and I ended up taking the plunge of revealing myself to Xander.”
“Yeah, and that’s how when you committed a huge mistake.” Brandon gritted and approached him within two long strides.
“You confessed your crimes in front of Evelyn who currently hates you. So, by revealing yourself to her, you only leaped a huge step and opened the doors of your doom. If she tells Xander about you then everything is over. Congratulations man, you exposed us.” He jeered but the rage in his eyes was evident.
“God, why did I even help you in the first place?”
Brandon grumbled as he massaged his forehead. He was scared because, unlike Dylan who abdicated everything and turned over a new leaf, he held a good reputation in the country. But the more prominent reason was that he didn’t want to be held answerable to Evelyn because then he’ll lose the tiny bit of respect he has in her heart.
“Fuck I am out of my gourd. I need to see Eve.”
Brandon was lost in his miseries when Dylan suddenly spoke out of the blue.
“WHAT?? NO” he shouted, startled by his words, and grabbed his shoulders but Dylan slapped his hands away.
Brandon saw how his eyelids abruptly turned heavy. He looked as if he would collapse at any moment.
“You don’t understand. I will end up doing something bad.” Dylan gritted but desperation was evident in his eyes. Brandon saw how his gaze started darkening and his breaths came in short pants. He looked vulnerable.
“STOP BLOCKING MY WAY!!”
“I SAID NO,” Brandon balked as he pushed him back with all his force, “Take medicine or get yourself treated if you can’t control your temper. Leave Evelyn out of this.”
“She is my medicine, Brandon,” Dylan retorted as he looked at him with pleading eyes, “You only told me that if I messed things up then it’s my responsibility to correct them. But before that, I need to be in my sane mind. I need my cure Bear, or else I will turn things worse.”
He shouted but Brandon completely ignored his words. Dylan had already fucked up everything and he can’t let him ruin them more.
For now, the least he could do is try and stop him from meeting Evelyn.
“And that you can do by staying here while I sort them out. Let me do it-” Brandon spoke but words died in his mouth when Dylan whipped out his gun and aimed it on his forehead.
“Move or I’ll shoot.”
Brandon gasped as he looked at him in disbelief.
“You wanna kill me, your friend?” He whispered while disappointment flickered through his eyes.
“I have gone way beyond those morals, Bear. They don’t control me anymore.”
Dylan snickered while the corner of his lips tugged upwards. Removing the safety, he took a step closer to him.
Brandon immediately stepped back, fear gnawing at his heart with full force. He raised his palms in surrender and softened his tone, “Act wisely. I just want to help you. I can make Evelyn understand, trust me.”
Dylan shook his head. A crazed glint entered his eyes while his personality took a 360-degree turn.
“But for that, you’ll be requiring legs and I am afraid, I would have to snatch them from you if you dare take one step out of this room.”
He hissed and the next moment a loud sound pierced through the walls as he shot a bullet just an inch away from his right foot.
“THE HELL MAN!!” Brandon screamed in fright and jumped back in shock.
His heart lurched to his throat. Catching his rugged breaths, Brandon lowered his eyes to the clouds of smoke that were escaping through the nozzle of his Armatix.
Dylan eyed his horrifying reaction. Amusement etched on his face as he twirled the gun between his fingers and lowered his hand. Tucking it back into his waistband, he sashayed towards him and halted.
Brandon glared at him but Dylan could see the fear in his eyes. He was shaken to the bone.
“See that wasn’t so difficult, isn’t it?” Dylan mused and patted his cheek. Brandon jerked away from his touch.
“Fine if that’s what you want but mark my words, Dylan, once Xander catches you, your game will be over.” He warned him in an earnest tone. Brandon knew that making Dylan understand was akin to banking his head against a wall. He wouldn’t stop until he gets what he wants.
And as expected Dylan’s reaction didn’t surprise him a bit.
Dylan simply scoffed as he found his words amusing. Placing his hand over his right shoulder, he stepped closer and looked into his eyes.
“Tell that to Xander, Bear. If I catch him with my wifey anymore, his life will be over that day.”
He rasped darkly and walked past him leaving Brandon shocked to the core.
“Did he just mention that h-he’ll k-kill Xander?”
