Trip to Hometown
Evelyn’s P.O.V.
Dylan not for once bothered me during the whole journey. He stayed with his men in another compartment after the fight.
Well, it was a good thing but that didn’t happen because my mind was occupied with his thoughts the whole time. I tried to brush them away and focus on my work but I failed. I kept making minute errors every now and then until I frustratingly gave up.
‘Why did he back out?’
‘Why he didn’t react?’
I don’t trust Dylan a bit but the thing is I was ashamed of my behaviour. I am not heartless like him. The way I was pushing him away, talking to him rudely and he was obediently following my every command turned me uneasy. I wasn’t liking it because I am not used to castigating people and treating them like trash. It is his job but today we both swapped our roles.
“Fuck it!!”
I threw my head on the seat and exhaled loudly. The best way to get rid of his thoughts was to take a sound nap. At least I will be unencumbered with all the worries, tensions, and stress for some time.
*****
“Mmm”
I groaned and jerked a little as someone was continuously shaking my right shoulder. When I couldn’t deal with it anymore, I groggily opened my eyes only to sit back with a jerk.
There stood Dylan with an unfathomable expression on his face. He was the one who was nagging me.
“Get up, we’re about to land,” his voice was crisp.
“Yeah, I-”
Before I could speak, he turned his heels and walked away leaving me hanging.
My jaw dropped.
“What the hell!! He is the one to show attitude, shouldn’t it be me?”
Just see the guts of this man, unbelievable.
Huffing, I sat straight and unzipped my purse. Removing a scrunchie, I tied my hair neatly and then proceeded to collect my stuff.
*****
We finally landed.
New York.
The city which never sleeps. A place where one comes with the hope to conquer dreams. But ironically, it is the same place that murdered my dreams and burnt my future around three years ago.
I left this city. Scratch it, ran away from here to look for a spot so that I can structure my ambition.
Dylan headed my way as we both trudged through the intensely crowded airport. While he was busy conversing with his people, I was dragging my feet as that dreadful past kept flashing in my mind.
I was born here, completed my education, kicked my career, and was about to start a new chapter of my life when I was deceived. Played by the man whom I devoted my heart, my soul. Got betrayals not once, not twice but multiple times. Our marriage was a damp squib that changed my entire ideology regarding love. I stopped believing in love stories, they were just pure imagination and dedicated my life to work.
But Dylan turned my efforts useless. He struck my well-built castle like a blustery storm and ravaged it turning everything back to square one.
We both soon exited the airport only to find a black Mustang waiting for us. Dylan led my way and finally turned to me.
“Get inside,” He spoke but I said nothing and continued staring at him.
Dylan raised his brow when I didn’t grace him with a response instead walked past him and hailed a cab. He was shocked but soon his senses clicked in as he quickly jogged to me and grabbed my hand.
“You aren’t safe here, Eve. Come with me.” Dylan emphasized but his words only made me chuckle.
“Safe?” I scoffed and turned to face him, “I am not safe with you, Mr. Black. You threatened me to come with you but now you better put an end to whatever you’re planning because I am done.” I spoke and waited for him to snap at me.
His gaze darkened. I could see the protruded veins on his face and neck as white-hot anger pooled inside him. Dylan was near to exploding but again he surprised me by backing away.
“Fine, go.”
He spoke leaving me dumbfounded.
‘WHY??’
I screamed in my mind but didn’t reveal the frustration on my face.
“All right,” I sneered and climbed inside the cab. The driver greeted me and asked for the venue.
“24th Street, Cloister Lane- What are you doing?”
“Brooklyn, move fast.” Dylan completed my words as he also got inside the car and shut the door leaving me speechless. My mind stopped working for a while as I continued gazing at him with an open mouth.
Noticing my frozen state, Dylan turned to me and pinched my cheek.
“See, I still remember your address.”
“Huh?”
Is purposely annoying me?
Fury took over me. I started pushing him.
“Get out of my car!!”
“Your car?” Dylan snickered and looked at the driver who was watching us confused.
“Did she buy this car?”
“No, this is mine. She is here for-”
“Shut up,” I hollered at the stupid man who started explaining to him.
I then turned to Dylan who was grinning at me, “I am going to visit my parents. Now fuck off!!”
“And I am going to meet my Mom. Don’t you remember I lived just four blocks away?” he chirped making me roll my eyes.
“Then take a different cab.”
“Eve, it’s public transport.” Dylan sighed dramatically and sprawled in the seat. I quickly scooted to the left when his left leg touched my right thigh. But that pervert continued shifting closer to me.
“And you’re only wasting time.” He spoke while sighing loudly.
I clenched my fists.
“Fine,” I gritted and got off the cab while slamming the door shut.
What does he think of himself?
I quickly called another cab, got inside, and locked the doors before that jerk could bother me again.
But my actions turned the driver suspicious.
“Is something wrong, lady?“, he inquired watching my panicked face.
I quickly schooled my expression, “No, I am fine. Just-DON’T LET HIM INSIDE!!”
I shrieked out loud watching Dylan who was standing outside while fidgeting with the handle trying to get me.
The driver was startled by my scream, “Why? What’s wrong?”
I smacked my head.
‘What’s wrong with these drivers?’
“Stupid, lock the door.” I lunged forward and locked the door of the passenger seat myself when Dylan was about to open it. Panting I plopped down on my seat.
Dylan was glaring at me. I showed him my tongue and quickly told the address to the driver.
“Move fast. FAST, FAST!!”
“Is he bothering you, Miss? Shall I call the police?” he asked me out of concern.
“No just move quickly,” I spoke and waited for him to start the engine.
“No, why he is-”
“MOVE, YOU IDIOT!!”
I shouted in anger.
Here my life is at risk and he is busy probing the matter.
The driver flinched and quickly nodded before he pressed the gas and revive the engine to life.
I sat back as relief washed over me. Suddenly the door of the driver seat was wrested open and before we both could understand, the driver was pulled out of the car and was thrown on the ground.
“What? Oh my, God!!”
I looked ahead only to see Dylan’s men blocking the way.
“Hello, there Ma’am.”
Hunter spoke and climbed into the driver’s seat. He then unlocked the doors and soon Dylan also got inside and settled beside me.
My rage reached the pinnacle. I fisted the hem of my skirt while my clenching my jaw tightly trying to hold myself from choking them to death. Which obviously would never happen.
Dylan could feel my heated glares. He then sighed and looked at me.
“It’s for the best. You’re new and I don’t want to take any risk regarding your safety.”
He said and moved close to me. I continued glowering at him while he made me wear the seat belt.
“I hate you.”
I meant it.
Dylan looked at me for a second before he nodded and moved back.
“And I intend to change it.” He rasped and then put on his seatbelt.
“Let’s go.”
Hunter nodded and smiled at me through the rear mirror before stepping on the gas. I shot him a death glare and then crossed my arms and turned my head toward the window.
It’s better to focus on the scenery outside rather than to look at the faces of these rascals.
