The lies
CHAPTER TWENTY-FOUR
LIES
"Are you with someone?" she asked while looking out the window of Anton's office. It's still raining heavily.
She had been waiting for the rain to stop, so he could go home, and she had been looking and waiting for Anton.
She went to bring him food but Anton was not there. She just found out from the staff that he had left.
"Ahm, j-just one of my employees," he answered from the other line.
She frowned at his answer. There was wonder and question in her mind.
"Employees?" she asked in surprise.
"Yes. One of my employees," he repeated.
She suddenly doubted him. She thought that Anton was lying to her.
"On work now? Where are you?" she asked again.
"In…in my office."
Now she realized that Anton was lying because he was not really in the office because Ariella was there waiting for him.
"You sure of that?" she asked again. There was a question in her mind that why he was lying to her and why he had to.
She ended the call and just pretends she didn't know.
She sat for a while but was restless. There were many questions in her mind.
"Is he with another girl?" she asked herself. "Why did he lie to me? Where is he?"
She stood up again and walked around to find someone who could answer her questions.
Anton's words kept coming back to her mind.
She inhaled and exhaled to calm herself and not overthink.
"So what's the point if he's with other girls? I don't love him, just my husband," she insisted to herself.
She kept denying that she didn't love him so that she wouldn't overthink.
It occurred to her that maybe he might be cheating on her or maybe soon. She also prepared herself in case that thing happened.
Hour passed by like minutes but the rain still didn't let up. Until now, Anton has not returned.
She repeatedly asked where he was and to this day it is still a puzzle as to where he really is and who he is with.
Then she decided to leave. Maybe she will take a taxi because she doesn't know how to drive a car yet. She was shy to ask Anton to teach her.
She waited outside until she noticed Anton's car.
She just watched until Anton came out. Anton had already noticed her so he came closer with his body slightly bent due to the rain.
Ariella frowned especially when she noticed that he was only wearing a t-shirt and it was still slightly wet.
Many things came to her mind but she tried to shake it off so that she wouldn't think of anything that would affect her.
"What are you doing here, my wife?" he asked.
Before she could answer, he asked again. "Have you been here before? Why didn't you say you were going to be here?"
She still couldn't answer his questions. In addition, she does not know what and how to answer those.
"Did it rain? You might get sick, my wife. I told you to take good care of yourself. Did you rush in the middle of a heavy downpour to come here?"
She was confused by his questions and could not answer. She didn't know what to answer first. His questions are one after the other.
When he was about to ask again, Ariella stopped him.
"Let me speak first, okay?"
He nodded, checking Ariella's condition.
"I am okay, got it? You have nothing to worry about, if ever," she said.
His face shows his concern for Ariella. Although Ariella was a bit stubborn, she still didn't enforce it. She answered his questions well.
She wanted to ask him where he came from, but she didn't speak and just ignored it.
"Let's go inside. It's cold here," he said. It was obvious that he was cold and Ariella noticed that. Another thought occurred to her as she examined Anton.
She noticed something strange in the way he was acting, but she couldn't figure out what it was.
They went inside, went to the office.
He dropped the bag on the couch and offered to sit down.
She still didn't say a word and it wasn't in her heart to ask him about that matter.
"You didn't tell me you were coming here," he said while getting dressed.
She calmly replied, "You didn't ask."
"Did you just arrive? Why are you outside? You commute? Why are you outside? Are you waiting for a taxi?" he asked one after another.
Until now, she is still calm even though many things are disturbing her mind.
"Which of your questions should I answer first?" she asked, still calm.
"Have you eaten?"
She followed Anton as she sat quietly. She did not realize that she was being asked.
Suddenly, she realized that Anton was in front of her.
"Are you all right?" he asked, checking if she was sick.
"I am fine," she answered.
"You look sad. Is there something wrong?"
She smiled when their eyes met. A smile she didn't want but needed to hide her feelings.
"No, I'm fine. I just want to go home and sleep," she calmly said.
"If you want to go home now, we better go now."
She just agreed. She suddenly felt a weakness in her chest but she couldn't explain what was happening to her and what she was feeling.
She wanted to pretend she was okay even though Anton lied to her but she couldn't force her feelings to be okay. It was as if there was a needle buried in her chest that she wanted to remove so that she could breathe freely.
While they were on the trip, she was sitting next to the driver's seat where Anton was sitting, she noticed a strand of hair.
Anton didn't pay attention to her because his attention was focused on driving.
She examined it carefully and noticed its color. The color of the hair is bleach and curly so she was surprised because the color of his hair was not bleach but black.
She once again felt the sudden acceleration of her heart rate while observing several strands of hair.
She feels more and more that something is wrong with Anton. She felt that he was hiding something from her.
She wanted to ask Anton a question but chose not to ask him first so that he could focus more on driving until they reached their destination.
The rain had stopped before they knew it. They went straight to the room.
A few strands of hair were still in Ariella's hand. Anton didn't pay attention to that and went straight to the bathroom.
Sje didn't lie down on the bed but just sat up. The wind flies her mind and spirit.
When Anton got out of the bathroom, he immediately got dressed.
She took that chance to ask.
"My hair color is not bleached, right?"
He looked at Ariella for a moment, at her hair, then he answered, "It is black not bleach. Why did you ask?"
"I saw this few strands of hair in the car, whose hair is this?" she asked, showing him the strands of hair.
