The Dazzling Necklace.
Fifteen minutes later, I was staring at a strange woman's reflection in the mirror. I looked so different, my hair was curled and I wore a beautiful black dress with a low cut at the back. The front of the dress was curved like a heart, showing my lovely cleavage. The stylist really transformed me. I brushed my hands on the dress, loving its texture. Soft and silky.
The stylist was very friendly and knew his work well. Few minutes later, Mr Lawson sent someone to call me. When I got outside, I saw him standing close to a Lamborghini. His eyes swept over me as I walked closer. My cheek flared up as I felt his eyes on me, I maintained my smile as I walked to him.
"Sorry for keeping you waiting."
He nodded and I assisted him into the car. After a long silence during the drive, Mr Lawson turned to me. "By the way, the dress suits you." He observed the dress, "were you the one who picked it?"
I widened my eyes, surprised he was willing to start a conversation with me. "Huh? Oh.. Yes. I mean no. The stylist picked it."
I took a deep breath and subconsciously fidgeted with my hands. I was nervous due to the proximity between us.
He nodded and stared outside the window. "Okay." He said without looking at me. "At the meeting, I don't want you to talk to anyone."
I looked at him, confused.
Why was he taking me to the meeting if he didn't want me to talk to anyone?
"Why?"
He took his gaze away from the window. "Why what?"
The finger of my thumb pressed into the upper part of my middle finger. And I wetted my lips before I spoke. "Why don't you want me to talk to anyone?"
He didn't expect to question him. I could tell by the uneasiness hanging on his shoulders. I ignored his reaction and looked at him, waiting for an answer.
He opened his mouth, but no words came out. For the first time since I had met him, he was lost for words. What baffled me was if he knew the reasons and didn't want to tell. My main question was 'why?'
He closed his mouth. His eyes seemed distant like he was thinking of something to say.
Just then, I remembered the picture of me and my daughter that I had picked up from the floor after a strange man mistakenly dropped it. The whole thing happened at his company and I was starting to feel like a complete idiot for not even suspecting him.
He could be the man who had sent that stranger to stalk me and my family. I shouldn't be suspecting my boss, but it was hard not to. That strange man left the company in a haste like he was hiding something and it seemed too much of a coincidence that I happened to meet that stalker at Mr Lawson's company just when I started working for him.
I turned rigid. Could he actually be stalking my family?
But why?
"Annie?"
I didn't hear much of what he had said, but I heard him calling my name. And he had never called me by my first name.
"Yes?"
He studied my facial expressions. "What are you thinking about?"
My face morphed into a frown and I pressed my index finger deeper into my thumb. "Huh?"
"You look so distant," he met my eyes and I froze under his gaze like a deer, "what's wrong?"
I shook my head and my throat tightened. I put on a poker face and look at him. "Don't worry," the side of my lips moved up in a tight smile, "it's nothing."
He wasn't looking convinced, but he nodded. He didn't question me any further and I was glad he wasn't pressuring me. I needed time to think about everything.
My whole family was being watched by someone and I needed time to discover the identity of that person.
He sat up and took something from a small classic paper bag. He stretched it to me.
I looked at what he was stretching towards me. I raised my brow at him. He pressed his lips into a thin line and stretched it again.
"Take it."
I reluctantly collected it. I flexed my fingers as I opened the box gently. I brought out a silver necklace. I turned it in my hands and looked at him, his neck to be specific.
Why will he want to wear a girlish necklace?
"I… I think this will be too girlish for you, sir." I said, observing the necklace. This necklace was definitely for females.
He frowned at me. "Throw it away!"
"Why?"
He rubbed his face and waved his hand towards the direction of the window.
"Just get rid of it, I don't want to see it."
My stare lingered on the necklace, I looked outside the window then back to the necklace. The necklace was just so beautiful to be trashed. It had sparkling silver stones and it dazzled as it dangled in my hands.
I folded the necklace in my hands. "Can I keep it?"
He quirked up his lips in a satisfactory smirk. "If you wish to."
Still confused by his actions, I kept the necklace in my clutch. "Thanks."
