Married To Mr Lawson.
The limousine stopped at the front of a luxurious hotel, and the chauffeur opened the back door of the car for us to step outside. I quickly got down and went to assist Mr Lawson in getting down. He kept his hands around my waist as he got down; his hands were warm and I wanted it to linger on my waist. He stretched out his legs from the car and leaned more on me as he stepped out. I shivered as our bodies made contact, his solid arm tightened around my waist.
My breath hitched as I found it difficult to breath due to our proximity.
I snapped out of my overwhelming sensation and went to pick up his wheelchair at the boot of his car. He sat down carefully and we started moving towards the hotel. The valet took the kegs from the chauffeur and drove the car to the hotel garage. The hotelier welcomed us from the reception and led us to our reserved seat at the restaurant of the hotel.
I stared around looking at the pictures on the hotel walls as we walked through the grand hallway. The wall of the hotel was filled with different portraits of many great people such as Queen Elizabeth the third, Abraham Lincoln and so on. Suddenly, the hotelier stopped at a booth.
"This is your reservation." The hotelier smiled and looked at me. "I hope you enjoy yourself, Mr and Mrs Lawson."
I widened my eyes, I was surprised at being addressed as Mr Lawson's wife. I waved my hands and smiled slightly; anxiety was gnawing my inside. "No, we aren't—”
Mr Lawson nodded.
"Thanks, we will," he interrupted me.
I struggled to maintain my smile as I gave Mr Lawson a questioning look. He smirked and looked at the people already seated at the reservation.
"Hello, Mr fox." Mr Lawson greeted the man who was sitting with a blond woman whom I assumed was his wife.
The man stood up and handshaked him. "It's nice to finally meet you, Mr Lawson."
He smiled. "The pleasure is mine."
Mr Fox glanced at me. "Your wife is beautiful by the way."
He tightened his hold on me and smiled at me. "That's true."
What?!
I expected him to deny it. And why was everyone referring to me as his wife?
"I want you to meet my Fiancé, Linda." Mr Fox held the hand of the lady beside him. "Our wedding is next month."
Mr Fox beamed and smiled at Linda. She
blushed and brushed his hand. They looked so much in love. Maybe, just maybe one day I'll find someone who would be willing to marry me too.
"Congratulations."
Linda smiled at my compliment. "Thank you."
They started talking about a business deal and things related to it. Linda and I excused them and went outside the hotel to get fresh air.
After standing outside for a while, we went back to the lobby to rest our aching legs. We sat around a booth. Linda subconsciously toyed with her engagement ring.
I found myself staring at it.
It was beautiful and the stones sparkled under the chandelier. I exhaled deeply and looked at my bare hand. I wished a man could propose to me too. I haven't been in a serious relationship ever since I broke it off with Rick. I was starting to get convinced that men actually didn't want to get involved with me because I was a single mother. I didn't regret being Zoe's mother. She was the sunshine that lit up my darkest days.
"So, how long have you been married to Mr Lawson?"
"Huh?"
