WHAT AWAITS
A lot of chaos was created with the unexpected cut in power supply. It wasn’t that late at night, but the boys and girls were still worried about going home on time. Some of them would have their parents come to pick them up, while on the other hand, some of them had clubbed in with their friends to reach here, and their parents would be stressed had they not reached home at the time which they had mentioned.
Marie was one such kid who had clubbed in with Jean, her friend, and she started to panic a lot. Her parents were strict and narrow-minded; in no way on planet Earth would they even listen to the explanation of why she was returning late. Thinking about this, she remembered that she was carrying her mobile phone with her as her father had asked her to carry it every time she stepped out of the house during vacations.
Derek's parents were told that it was not a usual thing, and that is why the staff told them that they needed some time to figure out the reason for the power cut. In the meantime, the kids started calling their parents to tell them what had happened. And as expected, the parents were not buying their story.
It was like nothing could ever go wrong with their kids, and they could never get delayed in coming back home. Each parent expected the kids to be home just in time, and that is when Derek's parents had to get involved to take care of the situation so that no one who had come to the party had any major problem other than what they were already experiencing.
His mom and dad were talking to the parents one by one and explaining the whole scenario to them. There was nothing else that they could do other than keep calming the kids and their parents down. This was not the way they wanted their only son’s beautiful birthday party to end after having it planned so well with one of the best party organizers.
Marie had started panicking as well, but Jean was pretty much chill knowing that nobody was at home waiting for her as her father was out on a date with some other woman. He had lived that kind of a lifestyle since the divorce. Jean's parents were divorced because her father had always been a playboy. He was bound to get married because his parents had arranged a girl for him before they died.
Jean was rubbing Marie's back to calm her down and show her that she had someone with her. It appeared as if Marie was scared of the dark with the way that she was panting. However, Jean was super cool with it, and the darkness was not bothering her at all. That was evident with the way she was supporting Marie by holding her with her hands on each side.
“Calm down! Calm down, everyone!” A voice was heard, which was quite relieving, but no one really understood where it came from because nothing was visible in that pitch-dark room, and the voice did not come from a particular side. Rather, it was of the equal intensity in the whole room.
Fortunately, everyone actually kept quiet immediately after they heard it. An announcement finally started with the introduction of the person who was talking. It then became clear that it was none other than the manager of that place, and he was talking on the intercom to communicate with everyone in the hall because the doors could not be opened. But at least the fact that the manager was with them and aware of the whole situation was sufficient for everyone to be hopeful about getting out of the hall soon.
In spite of everything, it still wasn't soon enough when a big team of people who were dressed as if they belonged to the maintenance department came at the front entrance of the hall with emergency lights that were big LED tubes. Unable to decide what they would do to get everyone out of the hall, there became pin-drop silence in anticipation.
The voice on the intercom asked them to get away from the main door and go to the backside of the hall, but they must do it very slowly with proper care because help had arrived for them, and they did not want more trouble. The youngsters who had their mobile phones with them followed Derek’s parents and turned on the flashlight in their phones to make it a little better for all to assemble at the back.
With an instrument, the door that was made of glass was broken very carefully by the people of the maintenance department so as to not let the broken glass hit anybody out there. They removed one big panel of it and even cleaned the pathway that had little pieces of glass by gathering them to one side. This thing was pretty quick and happened easily. The kids were directed out of the hall by those people in no time.
Immediately after this was over, Marie saw her phone and thanked God that she didn’t call her dad before. Once everyone else started bidding goodbyes, Jean and Marie also did the same. They walked to Derek to wish him a very happy birthday. Then the two girls walked to his parents to thank them for the party and make them aware that they were also leaving from there.
Jean and Marie got in the car after their driver opened the door for them because they had a lot of things in their hands. They were holding the return gift, the food take-away which was given to everyone, and also little packets of the brownies and some candies. It was a beautiful party for the group even though towards the end it became contrary.
While they were in the car and returning home, both of them were looking at each other and smiling. They were blushing at each other as they remembered what they did at the party because it was the first ever time that they entertained something of that sort.
Teenage is beautiful as everything we tend to do caves in a memory for life. No matter the number of times we would end up doing it in the future, but the beauty of anything we do for the first time can never fade away. We are prone to remember for life the feeling it brought to us, and somehow we manage to relate that particular feeling to the special action no matter who we do it with. That is why things done for the first time always hold a special place, and it should not be undervalued.
When they reached Marie's place, they were befuddled to find her dad standing at the main gate, walking from left to right, and he did not seem in a good mood. As Marie looked at him, she only hoped nothing would spoil from here; not at home, and not with Jean either. She stepped out of the car in nervousness, incapable of understanding how she should react.
