Chapter 5 What A Fragile Love
It would soon be Christmas.
Early in the morning, Aurora woke up and began to sort through the presents.
After breakfast, Silas drove Aurora and Ulani to the house of Silas' parents, who settled in Kenilworth, a picturesque town on the lakeside area north of Chicago.
After getting married, the family of three would go to this town every Christmas to spend the holidays with Silas' parents. Silas' twin sister would also be there.
The car sped along.
Around ten in the morning, the car pulled into the courtyard of a two-storey mansion. They arrived at Silas' parents' house.
Ulani's grandmother, Noyes Francis, laughed heartily at the arrival of the three of them. She happily took Ulani and greeted Silas and Aurora to sit down. Noyes was a university professor before retiring.
When Silas' father came downstairs, Silas called calmly, "Dad."
Silas' father, Hobson Francis, nodded when he heard his son call.
Hobson, chairman of the Padetta Hotel Group, a hotel tycoon with a personal fortune of more than $9 billion, was an unquestionably super-rich.
Aurora knew that Silas and his father never had much to say, and it was awkward for her to be in Silas's arms.
It was only after half a year of marriage with Silas that Aurora learned that her husband was not only an elite lawyer, but also Hobson's son. Hobson was a name she had only seen in news reports in the past.
Aurora could sense a conflict between Silas and his father, but Silas didn't want to bring up the subject, so she didn't ask. Likewise, she knew that Silas's father didn't like her very much.
In fact, almost everyone thought that Silas should marry his childhood friend, Lynn Hathaway, and Aurora had never met Silas' parents before getting a marriage license with Silas. She was ignorant and fearless back then.
On the day she said goodbye to Gregory, she ran to the airport alone. At that time, she had only one thought in her mind, that from now on, she would never appear in front of Gregory again.
At that time, she didn't know where she should go. She bought the plane ticket at random and didn't even notice which city her destination was.
Sitting alone in the waiting room, surrounded by people coming and going, but no one she knew. She didn't know when she started crying.
That afternoon, Gregory stormed into Aurora's room aggressively, giving her a loud slap in the face. Originally, Aurora was full of joy and wanted to show him what she looked like in a wedding dress, but that slap made her instantly stunned. And Emily Shawn, who followed, tearfully leaned on Gregory, and he accepted.
What did Gregory say then? He said, "Aurora, I didn't expect you to be such a woman. Do you hate seeing Emily so much? She's just an innocent girl."
"How dare you instigate someone to sexually assault Emily? Do you know that your behavior is illegal? Fortunately, Emily didn't have an accident this time. If something happened to her, wouldn't you have a restless conscience and couldn't sleep?"
"Aurora, could it be that your previous kindness and thoughtfulness were all faked? You disappointed me too much..."
"Aurora, apologize to Emily."
"..."
Then Emily Shawn's slap made her fall directly to the ground. The woman's strength was so strong that half of her face was swollen, but he thought she fell on purpose, and he didn't even want to help her.
On purpose? Huh?
When Aurora fell, her head hit the corner of the table. Her head hurt and she felt the lump, but she laughed until the tears could no longer be contained.
The relationship between them can't even stand such a provocation?
She propped herself up on the floor slowly, looked at him, and said, "I didn't."
But what she received was only his extremely disappointed eyes, and the picture of him comforting the woman. Her explanation, in his eyes, became a deliberate cover up. He believed everything Emily said, but he didn't believe anything she said. Was this the way he loved her?
What a fragile love!
Aurora didn't regret the words she said that she wanted to break up with him. She wouldn't learn to force herself to give in. If he didn't believe her, she could left! Asked her to take this trumped-up charge to apologize to the woman who designed her, sorry, she couldn't do it!
Before Gregory, Aurora had never met anyone who treated her so well. She once really believed deeply that he would always be so kind to her, forever! Looked how ridiculous the reality is!
She took off the wedding dress she was trying on, changed into a simple dress and left Gregory’s house of her own accord.
Aurora sat at the airport for a long time that day, her phone was on, but Gregory didn't give her even a single call. At that time she told herself in her heart that they were finished.
From then on, she no longer had to work hard to gain the approval of his mother, who valued the right match.
From then on, she would never be saddened by the fact that he was kind to other women.
She told herself that Gregory was just a passer-by in her life, and that the final outcome between them was separation.
It was getting dark, some people in the airport waiting room came and some people left, and she was still crying unconsciously. In the first 23 years of her life, this was the day she cried the most. On this day, she also decided to say goodbye to the past.
That's when Silas appeared.
After crying for several hours, Aurora's eyes were already red and swollen. When she realized later that the ticket she had bought had already been checked, there was already a long queue at the boarding gate.
She hurriedly dragged her suitcase and ran over, accidentally bumping into a man on the way.
As soon as Aurora looked up, she saw under the bright lights in the waiting hall, a man with a cold expression and a good face frowned slightly at her.
The man has a pair of deep pupils, and when Aurora looked into his eyes, she couldn't help but feel a little fear.
The man is Silas.
"The road is wide, please pay attention to the road." Silas made Aurora embarrassed for a while.
Aurora knew that the man thought she was doing it on purpose.
She didn't explain, just apologized hastily.
Silas didn't give her a hard time. Aurora thought this was an ordinary encounter, but after boarding the plane, she found that Silas's seat was next to her.
Later, when the plane encountered turbulence during the flight, she accidentally bumped into Silas's shoulder and spilled the tomato juice in her hand on his expensive handmade suit.
She swears she didn't do it on purpose, but obviously, the guy who was bumped by her twice in one day had some bad luck.
She offered to pay for the damage, but Silas finally said no.
Perhaps it was precisely because Silas appeared at the saddest time in her life that she subconsciously relied on and trusted him! It was not about love, it was just dependence! And it was precisely because she trusted him that, a year later, when Silas said "Ulani needs a mother, you are a good fit", she agreed to his proposal, which was not like a marriage proposal, without much thought.
Aurora knew that Ulani was not Silas' biological daughter, but the child of his tragically deceased cousin. It was good to marry him and give Ulani a complete home. At least, there was one person who would be happy.
After lunch, Ulani bounced around asking her grandparents to take her out to play. The two old people agreed.
Gregory went back to Princeton this afternoon.
Gregory had made up his mind to stay here until Aurora came back and needed him, but a phone call from home forced him to return. He could ignore the company business, but his mother was ill, and it was said that she was seriously ill. How could he turn a blind eye to such a big matter?
Gregory asked Aurora to meet before he left. Aurora wanted to refuse, but then she thought about the confusion between the two of them, and it was better to make it clear, although she thought her attitude was obvious enough.
"Aura, I'll be back." There was firmness in Gregory's eyes.
Aurora poured cold water on him: "Gregory, you should know that it is impossible for us to be between us. My husband is very good to me, my daughter needs me, and it is absolutely impossible for me to leave them. Besides, I I also hope that if we meet again, please stop calling me Aura, I don't think it's appropriate."
Aurora wasn't being polite, she wanted to make a clean break with Gregory.
Gregory, after all, didn't belong to her. And she could no longer belong to him too. They met the wrong person at the wrong time. So, they had no future.
"Aura..." Gregory's face paled a little after hearing this.
Aurora said "bon voyage" and left, unaware that Gregory, who had a fever behind her, was almost unsteady on his feet.
Aura... didn't you even allow me to call you by your nickname?
At night, Silas and Aurora lived in Silas's bedroom on the second floor, where he lived as a child until he got married. When entering the room, Silas caught sight of Aurora looking out through the floor-to-ceiling windows.
"Aura, he's gone?" Silas wrapped her around Aurora from behind.
"Um."
"Aura, you have me and Ulani."
"I understand, Silas."
"He won't steal my wife from me in the future, will he?" Finding Aurora a little decadent, Silas teased her, something he had rarely done before.
"Silas, I'm just your wife." Aurora leaned her head back towards the man's chest.
"Aura, the past doesn't matter anymore, people have to look forward." Silas kissed Aurora's cheek.
"Yes, dear Mr. Silas, the past is over, I will look forward." Aurora said solemnly.
