Thirteen
That was the height of my adrenaline.
I didn't look at the screen, nor did I need to. I simply touched my finger to the glass, praying that when the sound started again, it wouldn't come from that body.
But then without even remembering, the GPS managed to make everything more desperate.
THE LORD HAS ARRIVED AT HIS DESTINATION
It's at that moment, when the lights go out for good and the wind punishes me by blowing her scent in my direction. In the same second, a small square of light turns on in the grass, starting the timbre that had guided me here.
"N-no..."
— MILA! I drop my phone and run as fast as I can towards her.
The closer I got, the more agony washed over me. I could see her choking on her own blood, all limp and broken on the floor. I threw myself beside her porcelain body, kneeling in the traces of her pure blood. She was dying, fighting for any trace of oxygen,
- No no no no! - I burn with hate. -Mila...breathe...breathe please!
I touch her cheek carefully, sunk in the fear of hurting her even more. She feels a presence trying to recognize the person beside her, but the fall makes her senses slow down.
"Stay awake..." I gasp in anguish.
His lung was full of blood, apart from several broken bones. It was impossible to survive that.
— Mila!
Until I find a way out, I'll do what I can to keep you awake.
I take her body holding her in my arms and start sliding my fingers on her pink skin, which was stained with the blood that came out of the corners of her lips. Unprepared, I'm taken aback when her eyes meet mine, steadied in a very intense way.
"Who did this to you..."
Few people in this world can make others feel their torment with just a look. When this link occurs, anguish takes over everything.
"I could feel her..."
My heart was squishing inside my chest as the intensity of their gazes bore into mine. His eyes, the same eyes that left me in doubt if the sky was really up there, began to close following the stillness of his accelerated chest.
— Mila! - I swing it. -NO! I hold her face between my hands. -MILA!
Help, doctors, security guards, nothing was going to help.
"She's going to die, she's already dying!"
I can watch her leave and then shove her underground, or I can deceive myself for at least two centuries, trying to camouflage the pain of not having chosen to save her. The decision should be easy since I don't even know her that well, but it seems that every time I think about never feeling her presence again, or seeing her face, a mixture of pain and selfishness envelops me inside.
I wasn't able to let her go. At least not like this. Not now.
"Maybe never."
I look around with her still in my arms and when I'm sure we're alone, I bite my hand pouring my blood into her mouth. My skin touches her soft lips, but they don't make the gesture I needed them to.
To start the transformation, it would only be possible if she drank.
— Mila! - I rock her again, trying to get her to swallow. - You need to drink...
"It doesn't work if she's already dead!"
"Hey...please!" -my chest burns, ravaged by not seeing any movement.
His heart was slower than the running of a clock, he could barely transmit strength, not even life to his body. Only a very big shock could revive her, making her body react.
- You're not going to die! -like a red bow, my blue eyes disappear when I decide to wake her up anyway.
I lay her back down on the grass and with trembling fingers undo the buttons on her pajama bottoms, revealing her lacy bra. It was a white piece, very detailed and without lining. It went very well with her round breasts, slightly hiding her pink nipples.
— I'm sorry... -he said looking at her unconscious face.
"Touching her was a crime, taking her clothes off was a death sentence!"
With the same hand I tried to feed her, I risked doing something I had never done before. I touched the underside of her breasts, right in the middle and refusing to look at the atrocity I would do, I lifted my head to the starry sky sinking my right arm into her flesh. The minute I moved through her bones to her heart, I wrapped my blood around her single core of life. There, I squeezed it little by little, waiting for it to hit my fingers again.
- Hell!
My patience was running out.
— LET'S GO MILA!
A shock slams against the palm of my hand, causing me to startle and her eyes to open. A pained expression dominates her face, made even worse when she sees me choke on her chest.
"I-it's working..."
Those greens that used to convey sweetness and desire began to stare at me as if I were a carnivorous monster.
— Mila...
The pain was unbearable and I knew it, but looking at myself like that made me want to die right then and there.
"If she survives, she will surely hate me for eternity!"
That was the last chance I had to complete the transformation.
I removed my hand making her eyes fill with tears and again I supported her back, noticing that her eyes trembled with fear the closer I got. I took in his pierced body, gluing it to mine and brushing his hair away from his neck, leaving his veins available to me.
If she could move, or even speak, she would be thrashing about, begging me to let her die in peace, but instead I took advantage of the situation, stripping her of all power of choice.
"The way she looks at me makes me hate myself for maybe deep down being an animal."
I sink my teeth into your flesh, letting my venom take over your body. As her sweet blood fills my mouth, I struggle to fight my own nature, which is to suck every last drop.
That was a test, it was putting at risk everything he had already built over the years. I didn't need another responsibility, especially a twenty-two-year-old Queen who could effortlessly seduce an entire village. And even though I've done it other times, something kept whispering in my ear that now it was going to be different, but not a different one that I could easily adapt to.
"It will be like living in hell, like having to find an angel among a thousand demons!"
Soon, picking up the signal I needed, I move away from her perfume putting her back on the ground. One sound, one last knock, signals to me that all your chances of having a human life have been completely erased. Her flesh begins to close and her bones to mend, the color she had when human, is even more enhanced only now as a true immortal.
Its end, the end that one day dreamed of reaching in old age, ends up coming too soon.
With the Queen unconscious, I try to clean up all the mess already planning a good version for every question I'm going to hear. There, I call the security guards who, in seconds, alert the best doctors in the region. Doctors I've been friends with for years haul her off to the best hospital in the country as the gates fill with worried reporters and fans. People in the palace are in a panic, everyone was agitated wanting to understand how it happened.
"I WANT A COMPLETE INVESTIGATION!" he yelled at a line of thirty-three well-equipped security guards. -AND ALL THOSE WHO WERE NOT AT THEIR POSTS WILL BE SERIOUSLY PENALIZED!
"Calm down, Peter!"
"Screaming won't do!" she said. -The cameras outside showed how she fell. She must have tripped, or even thrown herself on purpose.
"You Must be kidding!"
- What?
We were in the King's office, surrounded by an investigative team while he sat at his desk, making up nonsense.
"People kill each other, Benjamin!" -he reaffirmed typing on his cell phone.
"Fucking hell Thomas, where did you get that?" - angrily retort.
— She was fine, they had no indication that something like this could happen!
"And the camera crew said the footage was cut!"
"This is all very strange!"
— It's strange that you're here acting like idiots, when Mila is already in the hospital receiving all the necessary support and treatment. - he replied altered.
“But Your Majesty, we don't even know if she'll survive. Doesn't that worry you?
"Of course it worries you!" he lied, looking around the crowded room. -But you know how I deal with deaths and hers is already clear to me...
- Clear? she repeated.
"No one survives that high, Piter!"
"She's not 'nobody' Thomas, and I guarantee you'll be amazed!" I turn around and leave the office.
"COME BACK HERE, BENJAMIN!"
Two weeks pass and Mila is still in a coma in the hospital. For some reason I don't know, she was the first among all the others I transformed, who had this unusual reaction. Usually they wake up after a few hours, a day at most, they can't stand the hunger, mostly because they haven't completed the transition.
- Sir! - she said in surprise, as soon as I walked through the bedroom door. -I thought you weren't coming today. The doctor told me that they had arranged for him to let me know if anything changed.
I visit her every day to check on her recovery and also to make sure the doctors weren't lying about her enduring this time without blood.
"Good night, Nurse Judith!" - I put my blazer on the armchair and roll up the sleeves of my blouse. -I needed to come... -I explain, watching her make her notes. -How is she today?
As I said before, many here were my allies and that gave me certain advantages. I didn't have to hide and I could be as transparent as I wanted with my questions and truths.
“We did another x-ray and also repeated the MRI, but just like last week's body is in perfect condition. Everything indicates that the transformation went well, but unfortunately she is still in a coma...
"And what Dr. Scott said about starting the transfusion—"
“Benjamin!” -he arrives the moment I touch his name. -All good? He held out his hand for a shake.
“Hi, Scott! I return the gesture.
"I already knew you weren't going to keep our arrangement, but I'm surprised you showed up here at this hour!" - he commented approaching Mila.
"I was going to come in the morning, but it's getting harder and harder to leave the house!"
