Fourteen
- I understand! she replied with a laugh. -I know how difficult your other "responsibilities" are to deal with.
"Incredible how he does everything to bring up this subject!"
"And how are things over here?" she asked, taking the file from the nurse.
"He wants to know about blood transfusions..."
"Yes, I believe that might wake her up!"
"We already talked about this!" -He's rude. -I know you're worried, but Mila isn't like other vampires... -he explains. -Her transformation was very complicated and her poison acting at the last minute was a miracle.
"You know I don't believe in miracles!" -retruco. -We need to do something to--
“Benjamin!” He sighs, interrupting me. -It's been a fortnight, a fortnight. And during those weeks, she didn't need blood once. If we do what you're asking me to do, I won't be responsible for any damage that may occur.
"Damn it!"
"Listen to him, sir!" - he warned. -You vampires cannot survive even three days without blood. Her case is really special.
“She should have died on the third day. To live that long without eating is something that we will have to study with time and patience later.
Annoyed, I run my hand through my hair tossing the strands back. I start pacing the room, not knowing what to do, clenching my fists in rage, agonizing with waiting.
"Thomas come here?" -I'm off topic.
"No, he just calls as usual!"
"Son of a bitch!"
“How can he be so useless? I ask with my fists still clenched.
'You know the Clifford's!
That name alone makes me uncomfortable. My short nails were capable of digging into my skin if I didn't slack off my fingers. I was clearly irritated, wanting to vent all my anger outside.
"S-she's going to be fine..." he commented, hoping that would comfort me.
I go to the bed placing my hands on the protection bar, I squeeze them knowing that with little effort I could break them, even hurt the Queen, however, instantly my heart starts to return to its normal rhythm, without any intention, or magic . It was enough for me to see how calm she was that my breathing calmed down. Simply with her image, she managed to convey to me a unique, incomparable peace.
"Could you leave us alone for a few minutes?" - I ask looking at her.
Their heads agree and the two leave closing the door.
You know, standing here next to this girl, I realize that I've always envied those people who manage to live quietly. Those who have everything in order and who are not shaken if they are trampled, deceived, or even betrayed. Countless times I tried to cover my eyes and live in the "cold", the cold that connects to total calm, where everything for some reason is defined as "surviving". It's like machines with feelings, but that somehow can turn the anguish and passion switch on and off whenever they want.
This is called being in control. Order.
"In the end, it's just an armor covered in self-love that, unfortunately, requires a huge trauma to be acquired."
— I need you to wake up... -saddened whisper. -I can't go on with my life with you here... like this.
I needed to deal with my stuff, Mila was taking up a lot of my time and it was causing me serious problems at home. She was my childe, but she was not my wife. I thought the problem would be solved by changing it, however I feel like I'm more involved than I want to be.
“Why do you have to be like this? I bring my hand to her face, sliding my fingers across her cheeks. -How did Thomas manage to find someone like you...
I already knew that when the time came, Thomas would be very picky about the appearance of his future wife and Queen, but honestly, I don't think anyone expected her to be the "indomitable" and "irresistible" type. It wasn't just his intelligence, or his surprising strength. It was a complete puzzle, which, as we discovered each piece, it was inevitable not to be enchanted after putting the image together completely.
"She's the 'haunt' every man dreads falling in love with!"
Delicate skin, so clean and clear that it looks like those dolls that break easily. Voluminous eyelashes, long black hair that I even need to take a breath to continue describing the other parts. Her body had a pleasant perfume, which, even after being hospitalized for a fortnight, did not disappear. It's that unique smell that each person has, that you can smell just by entering the house, but hers was even more intriguing, because her skin smelled like those imported perfumes that cost a fortune. It was impressive that in addition to smelling, she also enjoyed a highly dangerous physical structure.
"Men could get hard just seeing you in pajamas!"
Being in his presence was like living an internal war, fighting your own impulsive desires.
"What the hell, Thomas. Did you really have to be my best friend?"
That's when a simple gentle touch attaches itself to my other hand resting on the mattress. I bring my eyes up to that fluttering sensation and when I see it, it's her fingers clutching mine.
"God..."
— B-Benjamin... -she murmured my name and I turned to her face in the same second.
— Mila! I close my fingers holding your hand.
And of course the last and most important of all parts.
"That green one. That fucking green one!"
Not even the ocean was capable of having such natural intensity as she had inside her eyes.
We were both keeping our touches tight and locked on each other.
— O-hi! - I say relieved.
- Hi... -he replied with a deep and sleepy look.
- You made me worried... -I say, brushing the strands of hair from her face.
- And me? -She's still waking up. -But why?
"What do you mean why?" -rebate. -You almost left the whole country in mourning!
- Grief? -His forehead furrows.
"It's better to leave that for later!"
"No...it's nothing!" -Subject change.
“Wh-what's going on? she insists, starting to get restless.
- Anything! -I say.
“You said I gave—” His mouth snaps shut and his gaze squirms.
- What it was? - I am distressed.
— I don't know... -she tries to taste her dry mouth, which ends up not corresponding to the satiety that her body seeks. -I'm thirsty, very thirsty!
"The feeling is the same as being stuck for days in a desert without a drop of water!"
"I'll get you something!" -he said looking for any trace of human blood nearby. -Stay here and don't try to get up, okay?
She nods her head, analyzing the environment she was in.
I leave the room agitated and the first I find is Nurse Judith. I inform her that I'm going to the hospital's blood bank and ask her to keep Mila company for a few minutes.
“Queen Mila!” - she entered seeing her awake. - How good it is to know that she woke up.
"H-hi..." he replied awkwardly.
“I'm Nurse Judith. Can you tell me how you feel? - she asked with the clipboard in her hand, approaching her.
— Weird, as if — -she pauses and without difficulty sits up in bed worrying the nurse.
"No, no, no!" - she warned. -You can't get up. -she said touching her legs.
- My head hurts! - he said passing his hand over his face.
— This discomfort —
"Where's that smell coming from?" he snapped, interrupting the girl.
- Smell?
Until she learns to deal with it, everything will now seem more alive and charged. The senses are no longer the same and end up assuming a gigantic ease of achieving what the body needs and desires.
"Sweet..." she replied like a pregnant woman with cravings.
— Oh! -she understand. -Don't worry, it's normal to feel these things. Soon her meal will arrive and everything will be back to normal.
- No! - denied with a stronger tone. -I can't stay here! -she gets up from the bed, pulling all the equipment and venous accesses from her body.
— MAJESTY! -she lets the papers fall to the floor and runs to the other side of the bed, in an attempt to stop her.
— I need to talk to Thomas, apologize for the drugs, for everything I've done!
- Medicines? she repeated. -But what medicine?
"The medicine for the baby!" - she replied. -Isn't that why I'm here?
Judith quickly understands the whole mystery. She was the only person in Dallnalia, and in the entire world, who knew the truth that the cameras, Benjamin and security had not been able to uncover.
— Majesty... -she thinks carefully. -What's the last thing you remember?
— I remember filling my glass with water, looking at the moon from the porch and then... then Thomas showed up and got really nervous...
"And he hurt you?"
- No! she said. -W-wait... -the Queen sits on the couch for the companions and then Judith sits beside her. -He ... he screamed a lot ...-she was remembering. -I... and I screamed for help...
"Did King Thomas throw you off the balcony?" - he asked looking into his eyes.
- Balcony? -She is in shock.
— Yes, they found her in the garden, but no one knows for sure what happened. Your Majesty, fell almost eleven meters high.
“Oo what?” -she starts to pant.
"Yeah...I better call Doctor Scott!" she-she said she nervously.
Realizing that she had a treasure in her hands and that she also ended up crossing the line with the interrogation, Judith gets up all uneasily ready to alert everyone she can.
- WAIT! she ordered, grabbing the nurse's wrist.
