Downfall

(Sterling’s POV)

The plan was simple, to get everything done and over with so that Phoenix and I could have the time of our lives which wasn’t going to take too long because the culprit had been spotted and dealing with him legally was the only thing left. Brianna and Lisa weren’t going to go scot free after all; they were both accomplices to his whole grand scheme.

Sitting on the couch while massaging Phoenix aching leg which was healing pretty neatly by the way, I put a call across to Denzel who was already in the office because it was a week day and placed my phone on the table while leaving it on speakerphone so Phoenix could listen in as well.

The phone rang and he didn’t pick up and it redialed the number again and he picked up this time around.

“Hey, man, what’s up? How is it going and why didn’t you pick when I called just now?” I spoke from where I sat on the couch and playfully stretched Phoenix leg back and forth, twirling her toes back and forth too while listening to what he said.

“Uhh, yeah, I was on the phone with my dad,” I could hear Denzel reclining on his infamous chair and shuffling some papers.

“Oh really, what for?” I asked, curious as to what it was after all, Mr. Tom Silva was almost like my dad.

“Nothing serious, just when they get to meet with Ollie and with everything that is going on, I do not know when to fix a meeting with them until everything is sorted out, you know,” I heard him sigh from his end and I couldn’t help but role my eyes at him even though he couldn’t see me and then I got hit by Phoenix and I turned to look at her.

Phoenix: “…..”

I shrugged and responded, “But I thought you said her birthday is on the 16th of October,”

“Yeah, so, what has that got to do with this?” Denzel asked and I couldn’t help but literally face palm my face. For someone who was very smart, he sure was dumb when it came to Olivia.

“Dumb ass, get her to meet with your parents then, it will be splendid, trust me,” I said, grinning ear to ear from giving such fantastic idea before Phoenix butted in and stole the spotlight.

“And don’t forget to throw her a birthday party which will just be family only. Just us, the rest of the gang, her parents and your parents,” Phoenix said and winked at me as if all I had been saying was nonsense and Denzel wasn’t making matters any easier by concurring to what she had just said. Tsk, a bunch of traitors!

“That is such a great idea! Phoenix, you are the best,” Denzel said, not at all hiding his excitement.

I looked at Phoenix with a blank look, “Yeah, rub it in, why don’t you; you both mean that I have been saying nonsense all along?” Phoenix shrugged and I just sighed, “What about the other thing?”

“Yeah, about that, I have done everything that will put all three of them behind bars. You should see the results of that in a matter of seconds. I sent some anonymous messages to very populous handles on Twitter and Instagram and it will blow up soon, so will his company’s shares in the stock market and before long, his board members will fire him from being the CEO of the company. Just you watch out for the news, it will be the headlines for a few weeks,” Denzel said and the more he spoke, the more I got thrilled on the inside about sending those three dumb asses to jail.

As I listened to Denzel talk about their future failure and got drawn away from the call by Phoenix consistent tapping, I turned and saw her pointing towards the screen that held a very captivating heading: “Allen Martins, CEO of MAGIC GAMERS in custody for a rape case”.

The heading was all I needed to anticipate more of his downfall. I signaled Phoenix to turn up the volume a bit while I half-heartedly spoke with Denzel, “And it has begun,”

I heard him chuckle a little before saying, “I know, I can see it all the way from here and do not forget to check Social Media too,” he said and hung up and I knew from the tut-tut-tut sound my phone made. I listened to the news in details and it was indeed satisfying,

Newscaster: The arrest of Mr. Allen Martins who is the CEO of MAGIC GAMERS and was one of America’s hottest and eligible bachelors has thrown a lot of Americans in a state of pandemonium. The shocking arrest was made towards the early hours of the morning following the release of new information; a video amongst pictures of the supposed victim was included and it made Allen guiltier and many are wondering if there will be a way out of this considering the amount of evidence that has been leveled against him. Two accomplices have been arrested along-side the disgraced CEO. My question to the victim is this, why did it take her this long to report this? We won’t know the answer to that until the victim says a word to all of us. Now, away from that, the forecast for today’s weather is as follows…”

I looked away from the television and looked at Phoenix but she was already on her phone doing only God knew what and I had to interrupt her.

“Babe, what are you doing? Did you hear everything the newscaster said, this is really happening and the legal way too and I am sorry that your face is all over this but as long as the police haven’t disclosed any information yet on the victim; so you are out of the spotlight,” I said but she didn’t even look up or bother to budge to my nudge.

“Oh yeah, I saw that but everything is just blowing up especially on Twitter and it is among the top 5 trends already! Check your phone,” immediately she said that, I took my phone from where I kept it and began to go through the tweets and trends.

I saw the trends and then the thousands of tweets.

The comments went on and on and on and I couldn’t stop reading them even if I wanted to and then Phoenix tapped me and suggested the most insane thing to me which I found very satisfying.

“Hey, I have a very wonderful idea and I think you’d love it; follow me to the nursery,” Phoenix said, standing up from where she sat and going to the nursery while I followed suit and before I could get into the nursery, she was already coming out of the nursery with a sleeping Emerald in her arm and went straight to the bedroom we both shared.

I whispered in her ears as soon as I got in, “What has gotten into you? You do know that it took us a while to get her to sleep, right?” I said in a harsh hush tone.

“I know but you will soon get it,” she said and placed the sleeping Emerald on the bed while she climbed the bed and took Emerald’s tiny feet and placed them in her palm which was positioned well enough to show the engagement ring. After I got the hang of it, I didn’t need to be told what I had to do next, I just knew.

I took out my phone from my pocket and got a clear shot of their position before doing same with her phone too and then our position was swapped and then the camera timer was set for 15 seconds to let Phoenix and I take a hands picture with Emerald. After the mini home photo shoot, we both posted it on our social media handles simultaneously and the attention was mind-blowing.

Phoenix showed me what she was about to post before posting it.

The tweets and likes kept pouring in and Phoenix couldn’t help but laugh at some of the comments.

I did same too and it was just all shades of beautiful. Social media had never been my thing and only Denzel helped me out if there was ever a need for it but since she came into my life, everything seemed easy, everything flowed naturally and it came easier now. She melted this frozen heart of mine and I was forever grateful for how far we had come.

A few more months to forever and I just couldn’t wait to start counting my blessings with her.
