Chapter 86 The effects of Cristian
Chapter 86 The effects of Cristian
NIKOLAOS' POV
Confusion, worry and fear swirls around the castle.
We all witnessed what happened last night., it was kind of hard not to when lightening is striking 10 feet away from you and you see flying creatures in the sky.
I don't know what it was. Where did they come from? How are so much of them here? It was like hundreds of them..... I thought they were all-
This doesn't make any sense!!
I punch my fist into the wall as all these questions run through my mind.
All I want is that fucking child and they have a fucking army now? Where have they been all this time then? Nothing is coming together!
"My Lord-"
"What the fuck do you want Adam?!"
He clears his throat nervously before speaking. "Uh..."
"Out with it!"
"C-Cristian didn't come back last night."
I slowly turn around while squeezing the glass cup in my hand, dangerously tight. "What?" I ask in a low tone.
"H-he didn't-"
The glass finally gave out and crushes into pieces. "I heard what you fucking said." I drop the crushed glasses on the floor and wipe my hands with an handkerchief before throwing it on the floor as well.
"Did they kill him?"
"We don't know. The last one to see him was Isabel but she didn't come back with him."
"I'm surprised she came back. She's out of her mind and a lost caused. The demon blood clearly isn't helping her, it's killing her."
"Do you think she knows?"
"She would be stupid not realize that." Remembering about the main subject I say, "Keep a look out for Cristian. I still believe he's out there, he's not as weak like the others."
"And what about last night's situation?"
"We are taking action before they do, tonight. Not enough to hurt the child, just enough to send a warning."
"Won't that just make them come harder?"
"I don't care. I have to do something, to get that child. That is all I need right now. Get the soldiers ready and tell them to get armed and ready."
Now, that she's out of the picture, it's easier for the work to be done...
ELLE'S POV
"We warned you multiply times and this is the last time. Stay away from them."
"Ok, dad." Daniel says rolling his eyes.
"You're just lucky they didn't kill you."
"Yeah, that Jazmine one was really out for my head but Jules calmed her down. She's really cute too." I stop giving him a look and he puts his hands in defeat. "Ok, I'll stay away from her too."
"All of them!"
The last thing I want is for him to make an enemy of Jules, she so sweet and definitely not like the rest of them. Getting closer to the cottage you could see and hear everybody. Talking and laughing among themselves.
To be honest, it kind of weird, having a family reunion with my ancestors. You don't have this everyday.
"Princess Elizabeth." Some of them greets me with a smile as I pass or just bow. Not finding the strength to tell them I'm not her, I just smile and wave and even that was tiring.
"Hey ladies." Daniel waves at the with a smirk. Each of them either look at him in disgust, laugh at him or smile at him and not so innocently.
Jeremiah pulls him by his shirt, pushing him into the cottage. We see Lyra, Rhea and Jules about to walk outside.
"We were looking for you guys." Jules smiles at me and then her eyes trails behind. "Oh, you found him. Did you enjoy your time?"
"A little kinky for my liking but I'm not complaining." Daniel says making her giggle.
Are they flirting?
Junior awkwardly clears his throat snapping them out of their gaze. "Um, why were you looking for us?" I ask.
"We need to discuss our plan with the girls. Lyra and I have discussed this all morning and we need to quickly think out our plan. I am pretty sure Nikolaos already saw or heard of what happened last night."
"I'm pretty sure he did." Simon said.
"Why, have you seen something?"
"Elle, thinks she saw Cristian last night." Jeremiah answers.
"When did this happen?" Daniel asks confused. "Why didn't you guys tell me?"
"We kind of forgot-"
"You kind of forgot to tell me you saw my brother?"
"It's not like you were here for us to tell you anything." He scuffs, looking at Jeremiah before leaving the room. Jeremiah sighs ready to follow behind him but I stop him.
"I'll talk to him, you guys stay here and take care of everything."
I leave them behind and head to Jeremiah and Daniel's shared room. I softly knock on the door but don't hear a response, just sniffles. I slowly open the door and peep inside to see Daniel sitting on the bed facing away from me.
"Knock, knock." He doesn't answer and I close the door behind me. "Daniel-"
"Did you really see him?"
"Yes-I don't know what I saw." I quickly change my answer afraid to bringing false news to him. I trust in my gut that it was Cristian but I don't know. They say to trust your gut but some of the time it betrays you and I don't want to bring that additional pain to him.
"Why did you change your answer?"
"Because I don't know what to believe." I say as I sit on the bed next to him. "I thought I saw him. His face, his aura.... it seemed familiar. All except his eyes."
Daniel turns around to face me and I am shocked to see him with puffy eyes and tears on his face. "What do you mean?"
"They were dark, as if a soul wasn't behind them."
"Soulless." He states.
"Yeah." I confirm.
He stays quiet for a while before saying, "I miss him, you know?"
"I know."
"He....He's my little brother. I-" The look of him breaking down, breaks my heart. I immediately pull him in my embrace to comfort him, allowing him to cry on my shoulder.
As I think more about this my mind runs on Anna and if you think about it, we are going through the same thing. Anna thinks her little sister is dead and can't know the truth. It hurts me putting everyone through this pain but it's for the best..... I think.
After a good 10 minutes of comforting Daniel, he finally calmed down and began stuffing his face with chips. I left him in his room, going to check on Cora. I open the door as quietly as possible and pock my head inside. I let a breath out thankful she's still asleep. Ready to close the door to leave her in peace, a deep voice scares the soul out of me.
"Sleeping?" On reflex, I elbow them in the gut and instantly regret as they hunch over in pain.
I look behind me to it's Jeremiah and my eyes widen at the sight. "I'm so sorry."
"It's ok, I've gone through worse." He wheezed. He stands up straight and rubs on his rib. "Sorry I scared you."
I laugh lowly and close the door. "It's fine, I'm just really not the best person to sneak up on."
"Noted." We walk away from the door and into the living room. "Is Daniel ok, now?"
"Yeah, he'll be fine. And everyone outside.... is everything ok out there?"
"I think so. They started talking about decapitating demons and I took that as my cue when they started looking at me and now that I think about , they probably just wanted to scare me." He laughs and looks at me to see if I am laughing to but I just keep a straight face, wanting to scare him too. "Right?" He asks with a nervous chuckle.
"Sure..." He definitely didn't like my answer because of his fallen smile. "I'm just messing with you but right now I want to talk to you about something."
He first looks at me unsure before sitting down and I do the same. "What is it?"
"You and Simon."
He sighs, rolling his eyes and looks away from me. "I really don't want to talk-"
"Why not?"
"Because I don't want to, Elle."
"I hate seeing you guys like this.... Why are you so cold to him?"
He looks back at me and stays quiet for several seconds before finally answering. "I never forgave him for what he did. He betrayed all of us. You and Cristian especially, and he leaves for 2 years and just waltz his way back into our lives like nothing happened."
"He does feel bad for what he did, Jer. He left because he knew he wasn't welcomed anymore but that doesn't mean it didn't destroy him for what he did to his bestfriend. He hated himself for what he did but he found Junior and he helped him find his way back."
"Why you, of all people forgave him so easily, huh?"
"Why didn't you kill him?" I ask.
This question caught him off guard, "What?"
"He betrayed you, Daniel and the entire vampire castle and it's a rule to behead anyone who went against any of you. You had all the chances in the world to kill him... Why didn't you?" He stays quiet and looks at me with sadness in his eyes.
"He's family." I whisper. "Because he's your family and you had hope, just like I did. He was important to you and he still his but you're afraid of betraying Cristian by forgiving him. That's it isn't it?" From the look in his eyes, I am right or at least close. I never actually thought of this but it's clear to me now.
His loyalty to Cristian, it's still there.... and it's strong. He doesn't want to betray him like Simon did.
"He won't hate you Jeremiah."
"What if he does?
"He doesn't and he won't." I shake my head and rest my hand on his shoulder. "These past few months, I saw the two of you getting closer to each other until you heard about the chances of Cristian being alive and you pulled away again. You shouldn't have to do that, Jeremiah. Just talk to him, I am sure he'll understand."
"No." He flat out says.
"Please. Just say something without being mean. At least three words."
He sighs before saying, "Fine, three words." A smile brightens my face hearing him agree but I am hoping he'll say more than just three words though.
On cue, Simon and Andrew walks in looking a little terrified. "Uh... their out there talking about decapitating us while sharpening their weapons and it scared us inside."
"Plus, we lost Junior in the crowd." Simon added.
While it's amusing to see them afraid of them, I didn't miss that Jeremiah and Simon are now in the same room. I slightly kick him on the ankle and he looks at me confused. I give him an eye look to get up and do what we talked about.
Sighing, he stands up and walks towards Simon. "Hello and goodbye." He says before leaving the room.
"Really?" Eva asks.
"At least it's a start."
Andrew and Simon, look in my direction confused and I just shrug. "Don't ask." I say while rubbing my temples.
