Chapter 89 Can't do the impossible
Chapter 89 Can't do the impossible
"Who is the clean and happy baby girl? You are." I take up Cora from the bed and shower her face with kisses. "You're just so cute." I say admiring those puffy cheeks I made.
I rest her on my shoulders and walk outside of the room. "Guess, who it is?"
"The princess of the century and her beloved momma?" Jeremiah asks.
"That's right." I hand Cora over to him. He smiles noticing that she didn't start crying like she usually would. I hand him her burp cloth to wipe her drool.
Turning my attention away from her, I take notice of everyone else's face expression and how they are all quiet. "What is it?"
Andrew is the first one to speak. "We have to go back."
"What do you mean?"
"Back home. While we were being attacked by the demons, they also attacked the Pack again." Andrew takes in a breath before continuing. "Chris reached out this morning.... the pack is in bad shape, Elle."
"How bad?"
"A couple homes were destroyed and we lost more lives... A total of 10 and others are seriously injured."
My heart breaks hearing this. How could I let this happen? Oh god-
"Don't go blaming yourself now."
"How could I not?.... You know what? Lets go right now." I turn around, heading to our bedroom but Daniel stands in my way. "What are you doing? Move."
"You're not going anywhere." I look at him as if he's crazy and then I realize he's being serious. I turn to Andrew with anger clearly on my face.
"What?!"
"You're not coming." Andrew says with a straight face.
"You can't tell me what to do."
"This is for your own good, Elle."
"They are my people too, Andrew!"
"I know that."
"Do you?!"
Cora's crying makes us both stop, turning our attention to her. Guilt comes over me for arguing in front of her like that.
"I'm sorry, baby girl." I take her from Jeremiah and rest her one shoulders while gently tapping on her back to calm her down. I meet eyes with Andrew and I say, "We'll talk about this later."
I then walk out the room without saying another word.

NIKOLAOS POV
Yesterday went by successfully. Sure I lost a few men but you have to sacrifice a few to win in the end. Those men were weak and weren't really of use to me anyway.
There has been sighting of those Succubus' flying around at midnight just a few miles away from the castle. Of course it confused me when there wasn't any attack at all, so I decided to hunt them down myself and for me, it wasn't too hard.
Their good at hiding but not from me.
Some of them were spotted in a valley where their kind use to live/ hide back then. All though all the houses were burnt down, they still seem to make it work for them.
Some are spotted laying in the grass, some sitting in the trees while some are trying to kill the trees, by attacking them with weapons.
Getting tired of waiting, I finally come out of my hiding spot and walk towards them with a few of men by my side.
"Ladies." I address them with a smile.
A knife was immediately sent flying my way and I site it in time. "Hello to you too."
They all stand at guard with their weapons pointing at us. I see someone walk out from the crowd and to the front with a cold exterior.
"What are you doing here?" I am distracted by her familiar features as if I remember her from somewhere. I snap out of my gaze remembering she asked me a question.
"I should be asking you that actually." I look at each of their faces and most of them look familiar.
Is it genetics?
"We don't answer to you scum bags." She says looking at us in disgust.
"You're so sweet." I say sarcastically. "I'm guessing you are the one in charge?"
"Yes, I am."
"Fantastic." My smile drops into a scowl. I take a small step forward and two swords are sent flying past each side of face and I hear thuds behind me.
I turn around to see both swords landed in two of my soldier's hearts.
"Take one more step and all of you die." She warns.
I chuckle lowly as I slowly turn my head towards her. "I really do not like you."
"What do you expect after that stunt you pulled yesterday?"
"Touché."
I stand there, trying studying her body movements. How she stands, the sound of her heart beat and she seems a little nervous by the way, and lastly, how fast she can get to her weapon. Finishing my analyzation, I trail my eyes back up to her face.
She's not a threat.
I speed towards her, covering her mouth and grabbing her before getting as far as possible from her people. I stop, finally getting to a good distance.
I grab her face and whisper, "You might be some good use to me." She thrashes in my arms, trying to get out of my hold but I got her locked. I grab her face with both of my hands completely and look her deeply into those green eyes, "I just need you to do something for me."
She begins to calm down and I get my confirmation it's working. "I need you to get me the baby. Do whatever you have to and bring me the child by tonight."
"You need the child by tonight." She repeats.
"Yes, I need the child alive and unharmed. I give you permission to do whatever you can to get it. Do you understand?"
She nods yes and then says, "Do whatever I have to do."
I smile in success and get out of my trance. Her legs seems to go out and I gently lay her on the ground. She'll be awake in a couple of hours and I'll have all that I need by tonight.
Of course she won't be the only one, she's going to need help and that's what she's going to get.

ELLE'S POV
"Hey." Andrew comes into the room and sits beside me on the bed. "We're packed and ready."
"Great, I am too." I say looking over at me bag on the floor.
He follows my trail and frowns. "I thought we went over this."
"No, we didn't, Andrew. I said we were going to talk about this."
"You've ignored me the entire morning." Andrew states. I stay quiet knowing he's right. "I can't risk anything happening to you."
"And you think it's joy hearing you go out there like that either? I need to know that you and everyone else will be ok." He begins to say something but I quickly add, "With my own eyes."
"And I need you to be safe without worrying some demon will come snatch you."
"I'll be fine."
"And what about Cora? We can't bring her with us and I trust Lyra and Rhea but leaving her without at least one of us?"
"Did you really just use my child to make a point against me?"
"Yes."
"Well it worked." I let a defeated breath out and say, "Fine, I'll stay back."
"Thank you."
"But I want you to reach out to me as soon as you get there and tell me how everyone is." I quickly added.
"I will." He smiles as he caresses my cheek with his thumb.
I lean into his touch and close my eyes for a few seconds. I open my eyes again to see his chocolate ones staring in my eyes. "I want you tell them about me."
"Are you sure?"
"Yes. Tell Anna first and please explain to her why I did what I did."
"Of course." I scoot closer to him and wrap my arms around him as I rest my face in the crease of his neck. He hugs me tighter and kisses me on the head.
"Be careful." I whisper.
"I will and you be safe too." I lift my head up and look him in the eyes.
"I will." I slowly move in until our lips lock.
I put desperation into this kiss, desperate for him to come back to me and Cora. I love him with every fiber in my being and I can't lose him.
Not now, not ever.
We slowly pull away, both of us out of breath. With out opening my eyes, I whisper, "I love you."
"I love you too." I smile hearing him say that and finally open my eyes before letting him go.
"You better go before night fall." He gives me one last kiss before he leaves the room to say goodbye to Cora.
I sit in the room for a few minutes just staring at the wall. The reason for this you ask? I don't know.
I just don't know anymore. We plan things out but it just doesn't go the way planned, so we clearly have to wing it from now on. Just when I think I can save everyone, I am proven wrong.
I can't save everyone.
I can't do the impossible.
Finally acknowledging this fact, I get up to say my final goodbyes to Andrew and the others.
