Chapter 94 Is he worth it?
Chapter 94 Is he worth it?
It's the next day and we are back at the vampire castle. After last night everyone freaked out, well not the girls but the werewolves, especially Anna.
I swear her eyes popped out at one point.
Getting distracted by Cristian's condition, I barely could explain on how he's here right now. I started losing my mind when we barely got a pulse from him and we didn't have the right equipment to help him.
He's dying... again.
As soon as the sun rose, we left, leaving Jules and the succubus behind to check for any survivors, both demons or anyone Nikolaos kept hostage. Three hours later and we are back at the castle, waiting for Lyra to tell us what is happening to him.
Lyra moves her hand in a circular motion over his head looking for something. A minute later she stops and look at me with sympathy. "He is dying."
"How? He was fine last night."
"You confirmed Nikolaos is dead, right?"
"Right."
"He was resurrected and controlled by Nikolaos and he is now dead. So is his power."
"So because Nikolaos is dead he's dying too? What about the others he controlled."
"Their compulsion might ware off but I can't be completely sure about the ones that consumed his blood. Just like him, they all could be dying right now."
"Can't- can-t you help him. Please."
"Elle I can't-"
"Lyra please.... do something." I look at her with pure desperation.
She sighs tiredly and look back at Cristian on the bed. "He's that important to you?"
"Yes."
"Ok, I can do something but I'm not strong enough to do it by myself. I'm going to need as much help as I can get." I instantly begin nod.
"I'll do anything."
"I need to syphon power from something powerful but I'm not sure if you'll agree."
"What are you talking about?"
"Cora has the power-"
"No." I say immediately stopping her from finishing her sentence.
"It's the only way I can do the spell."
"There has to be something else we can do. Use me instead."
"I can't do that."
"Why not?"
"You don't have that amount of power I need."
"But my baby does?"
"Elle, Cora has this power that is unexplainable. I could have sensed her power even before she was born." She take a hold of both of hand and looks me in the eyes. "She was the one woke Rhea up from her sleep."
"What?"
"I know it sounds crazy but she did. Maybe not consciously but a little of her power was still in your system when you died. That's what kept in between worlds and that is what woke Rhea up because she is the closes thing connected to Elizabeth."
"How long have you known this?"
"The night you woke up and Rhea explained to me what happened. I put the pieces together after that."
I look away from her and back at Cristian. I can't really be considering this, Andrew would never agree to this.
"If that little power could do that much, imagine what just a little more can do."
"If I said yes, what would you need from her?"
"Just a prick on her finger. I promise it won't hurt"
"I need to talk to Andrew first."
"Ok, in the mean time I will try and keep his mind awake."
With sweaty hands, I walk towards the door. I stop, taking a look back at Cristian on the bed as he lays helplessly. I care about him so much, but is it worth it?
Lyra did say it was just a prick of the finger and it shouldn't hurt much but I'm conflicted. I know Andrew won't agree to this at all but a girl got to try.
I open the door and was taken by surprise when I saw Daniel standing by the door. Let a breath out, I close the door and lean on it to face him.
"How much did you hear?"
"Enough." He runs his hand through his hair and sighs. "Elle, if you don't want to bring Cora into this, I completely understand. I won't beg you to, but he is my brother and hearing there is chance I can have him back is the best news I could ever hear. What ever your decision is, I respect it."
"Thank you, Daniel."
"Sure thing. I'm just going to go in there to check on him."
"Of course." I move out of the way so he could open the door.
I turn down the hall and pass a couple doors and stop at the old room I had. Opening the door, Andrew's back is turned to me as he pulls down his T-shirt, he seems to have just come out of the shower.
He turns around, hearing me enter and silently ask me about Cristian. "Lyra found a way to help him."
"Oh." Was all he said. He is still pissed at what happened last night but right now he doesn't show disappointment or relief, just a blank look.
Walking further into the room, I realize we were the only ones in the room. "Where is Cora?"
"Don't worry, Anna took her down stairs to feed her."
I nod my head as I let a breath out, both nervous and relief. I'm still shook from what happened last night, with all the drama, I don't like the feeling of her being out of my sight for too long but knowing she's with Anna eases me a little.
I sit on the bed and begin to play with my ring on my finger. "Can we talk?"
"Of course." He sits next to me on the bed and waits for me to begin.
"It's about Cora..... and Cristian."
"What are you talking about?"
"She can help him."
"W-what? Help him how?"
"Lyra isn't strong enough to help him by herself so she needs power to syphon from and Cora is the only one powerful enough."
"We are not putting our child up for some miracle spell that may hurt her."
"I would never let anything happen to her."
"It's not like you haven't before!" He shouts.
I am taken back by his words. I never would have thought he would say something to me like that.
I look at him in disbelief as the tears begin to well up.
He immediately looks at me with regret. "Elle, I'm sorry. I didn't mean that."
"No, you did. You blame me don't you?"
"Of course not. I was just so mad that it just came out."
"That doesn't just come out Andrew! You blame me... but I don't blame you because I blame myself too."
He scoots closer to me and wrap his arm around me. "I don't blame you and you need to stop blaming yourself." I shake my head as I pull away from him.
"Stop lying to me Andrew."
"I'm not."
I scuff getting up. "It's my fault our daughter was kidnapped, that's the truth." Ready to walk out the door, Andrew stops me by taking a hold of my hand and pulling me onto his lap.
"Please don't walk out on me. We've done that enough." He cups my face so that I am looking directly at him. "I said it's not your fault and I don't blame you. No one does." He said as he wipes the tears from my face.
"But-" I started with my voice cracking.
He puts his index on my place to shush me. "I don't want to hear anything about you blaming yourself. I said what I said out of anger and I completely regret ever saying something like that to you. You're a great person and a great mother, Elle."
I smile and close my eyes leaning into his touch. "Thank you."
He begins to give me small kisses on my jaw, my cheek, my nose, my forehead and even my eyes that causes me to laugh. "You're also going to be a great wife."
I slowly open my eyes with my smile widened. I hold him the chin and place a soft kiss on his lips. "I meant thank you for loving me." I whisper against his lips.
He grins and says, "It's a privilege."
I pull him back in for another kiss. Longer this time. He can make me mad one minute and in love the next, and I wouldn't want anything else.
Pulling away, I rest my forehead on his while still having my eyes closed until he spoke. "Ok."
"What?" I ask pulling away completely.
"We'll help him."
"Really?"
"I made a promise to you, that we would at least try to help him and I 'do' trust you with Cora." He emphasizing 'do'.
"Thank you, thank you, thank you." I say each time I give him a kiss on the lips.
~~~~~
After my celebration with Andrew's lips which left them swollen for a few minutes, I decided to take a long warm shower. I didn't exactly get the time to clean my myself up this morning.
Finishing putting on my outfit of just a simple blue top and jeans, I exit the bed room and meet everyone by Cristian's bedroom door. Daniel, Jeremiah and Andrew who is holding Cora, are all standing by the door. I frown when I don't see Simon standing with them, I feel so bad for him that he doesn't even want to be here when Cristian wakes up.
"Hi guys, where is Simon?"
"The last time I saw him, he's downstairs with Junior." Jeremiah answers but not in his usual cold tone. He's has actually loosened up when it comes to Simon and that made me have hope for their friendship.
"How long was that?"
"15 minutes ago."
Yeah, something tells me he's not downstairs anymore. "I think we should go in now." I turn to open the door but Daniel stops me by reach out for my hand.
"Thank you." Is all he says while looking me genuinely in the eyes.
I squeeze hand and giving him a smile, silently telling him it's ok. I let go of his and walk inside the room to see Lyra gently padding Cristian's forehead with a wet cloth.
"Is everything ok?" She asks as she puts down the bucket and cloth in the floor.
"Yes, we're ready."
"Now, I promise it won't hurt her." She walks in front of Andrew and asks, "May I?"
He hesitantly gives Cora to her and she sits on the bed with her, next to Cristian. "It's ok, Sweetie." She whispers to Cora as she rocks her in her arms.
I take Andrew's hand as I begin to get nervous again. She takes a small needle and gently pricks her tiny finger. I wince from just witnessing it but Cora doesn't look fazed at all. Lyra moves her hand in a circular motion above Cora's finger. I am shocked when I see her blood rising in the air. Lyra moves her hand over to Cristian's direction and the blood just follows her movements.
I watch in amazement, as I see floating liquid the air like it's the most amazing thing I've ever seen, it's not like I turn into a wolf or grow wings out of my back or anything.
Lyra drops a small amount of blood into Cristian's mouth and the other small amount on his forehead. She quickly uses her thumb to spread the blood across his forehead.
"Take the child." Lyra instructs and Andrew does as said. We look at Cora's finger to see that it is completely healed and she's not upset or anything. "I need you to take her out of the room, that is all I needed."
Before I could say anything, Andrew says, " It's ok, I'll take her, you stay." I give him a thankful smile and a peck on the lips before he leaves the room.
Lyra places her hand on each of Cristian's temples and begins to chant her spell in Latin. As she chants all the lights in the room begins to flicker. I flinch a little once a lamp bulb burst from across the room. We instantly made sure to look around cautiously for anything that could bring us harm.
We turn our attention back to Lyra who is still chanting. I then take a look Cristian, but nothing seems to be changing with his condition.
No, this has to work. Please make it work.
After 3 more minutes, Lyra finally stops. I take in notice of blood coming from her nose.
"Lyra, are you ok?"
She instantly puts her hand over her nose to wipe the blood away. "Yes, I am. It just took a lot out of me, that is all."
"Did it work?" Daniel and Jeremiah asked in unison.
"It should be." She checks for his pulse and a small smile spreads upon her face. "He should be awake in an hour or so. He'll be ok."
A grin breaks out on my face as I hear her say that. We're getting him back.
We're getting Cristian back!
I left the guys in the room with Cristian and took Lyra into a spare room she could get some rest. I assured her I would tell the girls where she is as soon as they get here. We did leave a couple of our warriors with them to navigate them here when they're done.
Instead of meeting with the others down stairs, I went to find Simon where I knew he would be hiding. I open the door and I am met with a familiar painting of Cristian. As I stare at it, I can see how much his appearance has changed. His once short hair, now long. He's lost a lot of weight but I'm sure he'll gain it back in a span of a week or two.
I walk further into the room and knock on the door to the right. "Simon?" I ask, opening the door.
He looks up at me and gives me a small smile. "What are doing hiding in here?" I walk further in the room and sit next to him on the floor.
"I'm not hiding."
"Then, what are doing?"
"Thinking... and making up scenarios on how Cristian is going to kill me."
"Simon-"
"You want to know my favorite one? When he first sees me and say, 'I'm going to kill you'," He said in his best Cristian voice. "And then he does by ripping each of my limbs off."
"He won't do that."
"Oh, he will. He used to say it a lot back then and didn't do it, but he is going to mean it this time."
"Could you stop with your non-sense, he's not going to kill you... not like that anyway." I add the last part jokingly.
"Very funny."
"Stop being so hard on yourself. You know Cristian better than anyone, talk to him."
"What am I going to say? 'Uh... sorry for leaking secrets to your father so he could use it against you?"
Even though the situation is terrible, I couldn't help but crack a smile at Simon. "Ok, not the best conversation starter." I nudge him in his side and say, "Come on, you're Simon. You make everyone's day better with your goofiness."
"Is that all I am for? My goofiness."
"Of course not. You have a warm heart that everyone loves. You're not perfect, you've made some stupid decisions in your time but you've learned from it and I can tell you're trying to make up for it and I appreciate you for that."
He sniffles and finally looks at me. "Don't make me cry."
I laugh getting up off the floor and offer him my hand. "Get up. I'm getting you out of here so you can be social like you always are."
"I don't know..."
"Junior is making cookies."
"My favorite combination." He says taking my hand.
~~~~~
*1 and half hour later*
"Elle." I feel someone gently shaking me. I slowly open my eyes to see it's Andrew.
"Hey." I cringe as I feel drool on the corner of my mouth and quickly wipe it away.
"He's awake."
I instantly sit up on the couch and take notice that everyone isn't here. "Really? Where is he?"
"Upstairs."
I immediately stand up and run upstairs towards his room. "Elle!" I hear Andrew call behind me but I don't stop.
I can't wait.
I need to see him.
I open the door in a rush to see everyone crowding around someone specifically. They all move out of the way, hearing me enter and giving me a clear view.
He's right there, standing tall and staring at me. His eyes are back to their original ocean blue. Not as bright like I remember but they're better than those soulless ones.
"Elle, you should know something-" Jeremiah started but I ignore him.
Without any control, I find myself running towards him. I wrap my arms around him and close my eyes as I treasure this moment. He doesn't hug me back but I don't care, I just wanted to feel if he was real and I wasn't in some dream.
He's actually here.
"Oh my god, I missed you so much. I never thought I would ever see you again." I let go, pulling away from him and wait for him to say something.
When he does my heart drops to my stomach.
"Um.... who are you?"
