Girls Talk 2
Elena.
There was one picture that caught my eye, where she was genuinely smiling. It was when she was spending the Christmas holidays with Jane's family because her family was out of town, as usual. These days, she was too prideful and would try to be alone during the holidays when her family wasn't around, but we always tried to keep each other company.
While smiling, I looked at the other photos. There was a picture of her and Zayn, on his 18th birthday when he found out that she was his mate. The two of them were clinging to each other tightly, looking at each other happily.
Despite the joyful photo, somehow, my heart felt stinging. In a flash, I shoved away my painful thoughts and replaced them with happy ones, and accepted them for what it was. A happy memory.
I looked away from the photos, turning around. Sasha had gotten up from the chair and was curled up on Jane's bed, her face serene as she fell asleep.
Rolling my eyes, I walked over to her, sitting on the edge of the bed. She didn't seem bothered by my presence, only moving towards the bed to give me space.
We stayed like that for a few minutes, when the bathroom shower clicked off. Eagerly, I moved to shake Sasha awake but stopped when I saw how calm she was. Snapping out of it, I turned toward the bathroom door.
As soon as the bathroom door opened, I almost bumped into Sasha and fell. Meanwhile, Jane appeared from behind the door prancing, or rather dancing, still wearing a towel. Tightly wrapped around her chest, she moved her head to the beat as she walked forward. There was no music playing though, or at least none that we could hear.
Completely unaware of our presence, she stepped towards her closet, opened it, and started mouthing the words to whatever song was playing in her head.
Amused, I finally decided to speak up.
"Um, Jane?"
With a shriek, Jane removed her hand from her drawer, then slammed it out with a bang. As she looked up at me, her eyes widened, and she immediately shook her hand. When she came to her senses, she began to speak.
"What are you doing here? And how did you get into my house? Don't you have any respect for privacy?!" Then she slammed the drawer shut as she turned to Sasha, getting dramatic.
Sasha stopped her, pushing herself up on her arms nervously.
"Elena has something to tell you," She yawned and lay back down, snuggling deeper into the bed. Her voice must have been solemn because Jane stopped her drama and crossed her arms.
"Alright, alright then - but I need to get dressed first," was all Jane said as she turned away from me, taking off her clothes again to pick through them.
After getting a suitable selection of clothes, she went to the bathroom. A few minutes later she came out wearing pajamas. Walking over to her dressing table, she sat down and started brushing her hair.
"Come on," she said as she looked at me in the mirror.
Rubbing my hands together, I crossed my legs on the bed, trying to think of how I should deal with this situation. The way I told Sasha was to be straightforward, just like she wanted. However, Jane was different from that.
"I'm sorry that I have been aloof and distant," my voice began, as my gaze dropped to the floor. Meanwhile, Jane gave a small smile in the mirror, putting down her hairbrush.
"It's okay El, there's not much that you are missing," she said, laughing to herself.
I just smiled weakly, looking at her. She looked so happy, which made me feel even worse. But I knew that Sasha was listening, and I knew that I had to tell her about it.
"It's just," I went on as I looked around the room, tapping my foot. "Something bad has happened."
That caught Jane's attention, and she tilted her head, her brow furrowed. She wanted to interrupt and ask a million questions, I could tell, but since she had the patience of an angel, she let me continue.
"I... uh... what I wanted to say.. was..." I trailed off, letting out a heavy sigh. Why was it so hard to say something so damn important to my best friend?
"A few weeks ago, I met my mate," I gulped nervously. That made Jane's face light up, and she started to smile.
"But then he rejected me." I bitterly told the truth.
Jane, whose face had lit up earlier, now blinked a few times, and the corners of her lips turned downward.
"What?"
Jane's voice broke and she watched my face, trying to find signs that I was joking. She wanted this to be a joke because according to her notes, this was one of the worst things that could happen to a wolf.
As her shock started to kick in, she stood up, stepping towards me slowly.
"Oh, El, I'm so sorry," she said as she hugged me tightly, sobbing. Considering I was already crying my eyes out over this matter, I tried to suppress my own emotions and just hugged her back.
After a few moments of silence, I moved away from her, taking a sitting position on the bed again.
"And there is another one."
This time, it was Sasha's turn to sit back down, looking at me with a puzzled expression on her face. I let out a long breath, rubbing my forehead tiredly.
"My mate is our substitute English teacher, Mr. Lockwood," I said as I waited for their response.
The first to speak up was Jane, her voice sounding mixed with malice.
"That son of a bitch."
My eyebrows shot up at her scathing choice of words. Even Sasha looked surprised.
"Sorry," She apologized afterward, though she didn't look like she was sorry.
"Now you're right, he is a total bitch," Sasha agreed with a nod. She didn't look so surprised, which made me think that she had expected something.
I could not help but laugh, and it wasn't long before we were all laughing. It felt good to laugh at something so bad, almost like therapy.
We stayed like that for a while, just chatting. With them, I explained everything that had happened to them, and while Jane commented on almost everything, Sasha simply fell silent.
