The Intruder
Elena.
It seemed like life kept moving after I met Killian. Despite the fact that my heart still rumbles every time I see him, it doesn't make me want to black out when I see him. In fact, I could actually be in the same room with him freely without wanting to break down, and that was good for me.
From there, we found a normal routine pattern of life, even if only for a short time. Anyway, on one rather cold afternoon, my life once again began to flow again. This time, in full force.
"Can I have a cheeseburger with extra mayonnaise, medium fries, and a large glass of Cola... wait, I mean, Cola with no sugar?" Jane shouted through the speaker from outside the window. Her sunglasses were perched low on the bridge of her nose as she glanced at Sasha, who had a sharp expression on her face.
Hearing the order, the waitress behind the speaker was silent for a moment before replying in a confused tone, "Um, excuse me, ma'am, this is a coffee shop."
Upon hearing that answer, Jane was silent for quite a while before she finally broke into a smile and turned away from Sasha towards the delivery box. "Oh, okay, thank you!" she said as she pulled the car into the parking lot.
Once we got out of the coffee shop, I rested my chin on the palm of my hand, smirking. "You are such a nut," I said, shaking my head.
"When it comes to food, any dares you give me I will answer, I can guarantee it!" Then Jane broke into laughter, and I did too. The three of us spent the whole day wandering around the town, doing all sorts of stupid challenges. Of course, Sasha lost badly because she did not want to engage in 'such ridiculous activities'.
"I have worse dares than that, Jane," Sasha said, crossing her arms over her chest. "I'm just being casual."
Jane, on the other hand, looked at Sasha out of the corner of her eye while tapping her fingers on the steering wheel.
"Oh yeah?" She asked, feeling curious and Sasha just nodded slightly, a wicked glint in her eyes.
"Jane, just do whatever's in your way and just let it go," I told her, and she just gave a sigh. "And you, Sasha, stop making such a fuss!"
In the end, Sasha let out a long huff and turned her face away, squinting her eyes from the glare of the sun.
While looking at my phone, I yawned as I looked at the clock. It's only noon, but I consider it nap time.
"I'm tired and exhausted, take me home," I demanded in an irritated tone, which made Jane almost run into the car that was about to hit me. Without thinking, I kicked at her while shouting in an amused tone.
It was a good thing we were driving on such an empty road.
"What's the magic word?" Jane asked, moving away from my kick. I made a loud humming sound, tapping my finger against my chin.
"Help?" I wondered, but Jane just shook her head rather than answering. While crossing my arms, I stared at her, as if asking for an answer out of confusion.
"What?"
"It's 'I beseech you, holy one'" she said, looking at me proudly.
I blinked my eyes a few times and then shook my head. What a girl she is.
"What? I beseech you, holy one?" I asked skeptically as I was about to burst out laughing, and she nodded in full agreement. On cue, Sasha snorted from where she was sitting, looking up and glancing at her from her sketchbook.
"There is nothing holy about you at all, Jane! Don't get weird," He chuckled, and Jane scoffed at him, throwing a dime at him.
"Shut up! I'm a holy one, that will be enough," Jane retorted, as she looked for something else to throw at Sasha who was still cackling with amusement.
Sasha looked up with a cheeky look in her eyes, moved her feet away from the dashboard, and pointed her finger at Jane.
"I'm pretty sure that Zayn would never say that!" Sasha blurted out, and Jane's mouth dropped open. She was scowling at Sasha, who was sinking into her seat, with both hands dramatically clutching her hair.
"I just heard it now," Her voice became a bit more gentle as she started pretending to be Jane's voice. "Oh, please Zayn, more!"
She let out a chuckle, and Jane smacked her from the driver's seat, a blush washing over her face.
I covered my ears as Sasha continued, screaming out.
"Please, this is so disgusting!"
That made Sasha burst out laughing even more, making her stop the action. Despite the way Jane looked so red that she might faint, she also had a hearty laugh. It was only me who felt so awkward, probably because they were talking about my brother!
"I hate both of you!" I said with a hint of a smile on my face, shaking my head. Sasha seemed to have calmed down, trying to catch her breath. I knew that her parents had come home a few days earlier, so she was in a rather good mood.
As soon as my house came into view, Sasha started to act again. Just as she reached out to hold Jane, I got out of the car, slamming the door behind me. I could hear the two of them snickering from inside the car, and I just wagged my finger at them as I walked up the driveway of my house.
My parents were not at home, and they were busy with their work. As for Zayn, he was staying over at his friend's house, working on a college project.
Once I got into the house, I took off my jacket and yawned. Rubbing my eyes, I climbed up the creaking stairs and turned to head right towards my room.
As soon as I opened my bedroom door, I walked straight to my bed, kicking off my shoes and laying my body down on the fluffy sheets. Snuggling deeper into the blanket, I let out a long sigh, squeezing my eyes shut tighter.
But all of a sudden, I caught a scent of something.
My eyes snapped open, and I gasped. Shock swept through my system as I looked around the room, my eyes trying to adjust to the interior of my room. There everything was a mess, a complete disarray.
The nightstand next to my bed had been thrown to the side, and the lamp was broken apart on the floor. My dresser drawers were open, and my clothes were scattered around my room. My closet was open, and everything inside was scattered everywhere.
Bursting into tears, I got to my feet, raising my hand to cover my mouth. I picked up a strange, unfamiliar scent that filled my nostrils. It was everywhere.
Someone had broken into my house. Who was it? A rush of anxiety and distress ran through my body.
Taking a few steps forward, I dragged my trembling hands from my face, then to my stomach, it was like being twisted with a hot fork. For a few seconds, I held still, listening clearly and trying to figure out if there was anyone inside my house. As luck would have it, whoever was there had already been gone.
The first thing I did was go to the dresser and take a look at the top drawer. It was my underwear drawer, and it was already half empty. Some of them had been thrown out and scattered around the room. How gross. I just hoped whoever was rummaging through my stuff had no sort of kinky or fetish type of thing going on, as it would be really creepy and absurd.
Trying to ignore it, I shoved off the remaining underwear and glanced down at the bottom. There was my letter lying underneath.
Letting out a sigh of relief, I moved away from the drawer and shook my head. I was getting dizzy, but I still tried to clear my head.
As I scanned around my room, nothing seemed to be missing. Not that I had not noticed since my room was a mess. Even so, all my jewelry was still in its boxes, and my cash was still safely hidden.
With a catch in my breath, I plopped down on the bed, looking around my room that was like a typhoon, a mess.
They must be looking for something, but what is it? I really had nothing important that I could think of.
Clutching my ring pendant to steady myself, I checked the damage once more before getting up and wiping the tears from my eyes.
My parents would be coming home soon, and I did not wish for them to see this damage. As it seemed like only my bedroom was affected, I was not quite sure how I could explain to them that I knew nothing about what was going on.
It had been so long since I had cleaned up my room, I had no idea where to start. In the end, I sorted out my scattered clothes and threw my broken lamp into the trash. It took about another hour and a half to clean everything in my room. I also had to fix up my house, which had also been inspected. But only a little.
After doing all that, I slouched on my bed with a heavy sigh. My room now looked cleaner than before, but I still felt harassed. Rubbing my eyes, I got up, left my room, and made my way downstairs.
Taking a deep breath, I opened the front door of my house and walked out onto my porch, as I sat on the front porch steps. The house made me feel dizzy.
Leaning my head against the wooden backrest, I gave a sigh. I did not care how cold it was outside, or how bad I looked. I just needed to calm down, after everything that had just happened.
All of a sudden there was a loud noise from my right, and when I opened my eyes, they were met with a pair of eyes that looked at me curiously.
It was Killian who was seen standing in his driveway, right outside his car. I did not hear him pull over, but once again, my senses were overly alert.
He looked puzzled as soon as he saw my face. I could only assume that it was because of my eyes, which were clearly red and swollen.
I held my breath as I watched him, waiting for him to make his move. Moments later after looking into my eyes, he turned his back and walked towards his door.
All the while, I kept my eyes on him as he climbed up the front steps of his house and fished out the key from his jacket pocket. As he unlocked the door, he stared at me one last time, with a look on his face that clearly showed a certain expression. Sorrow.
Once he opened the door, it closed, and once again I was completely alone.
A feeling of emptiness came over me, but within that emptiness, something new grew. I simply could not ignore the feeling that there was more hidden behind the look in Killian's eyes, something waiting to be revealed.
