Chapter 5
I sat down on my bed wearing my long black socks. Today was Monday, a week after school resumed.
I was already dressed in my school uniform, preparing for a new school day. I had Ill feelings in my gut wondering how my first day at a new school would be like.
Are the students going to be mean or bossy or intelligent and proud? I asked myself. I lay down flat on my bed, I didn't want to go, I didn't have enough courage just yet.
The door to my room banged open and without guessing I knew it was Juli, how were we related?!
"What are you doing here?!" I semi yelled.
"Get up, you are gonna be late for school Lily. Don't forget you have to look your best to get the boy's attention so the god of boyfriend's can actually visit you!" Juli exclaimed.
"Ah!" I screamed. "Shut up Juli, you talk too much!" I spat out
.
"Boys boys and boys as if I'd get an accolade if I get a boyfriend," I spat out.
Juli chuckled lightly, "You don't know anything at all Liliana. You think it's fun being single?" She scoffed.
"To you, it ain't fun to be single, to me, it is. And please get over your gods of boyfriend!" I exclaimed, wearing my wrist watch.
"Liliana, I promise you by the time the gods of boyfriend approach you, I won't pay attention to you, so I'd advise you to start apologising to me now before it's too late," Juli spoke.
"Aww...I can assure you that I won't be happy until I am 27," I deadpanned.
"I forbid it for you!" Juliana exclaimed.
"Why would you pray for such Liliana?!" She asked.
"Twenty seven is very far and that's like ten years from now! Don't you wanna get married? Don't you wanna be loved?"" Juli asked me.
I sighed, "Stop being over dramatic Juliana, it was an exaggeration, I didn't really mean it," I explained to her.
She placed her palm on her chest, heaving a sigh, "I was scared for a moment," she retorted.
"Shut up and say no more about boyfriend's!" I exclaimed.
"I need to focus on my academy and achieve a lot before thinking of anything related to man, man and man!" I said to her, picking my school bag from the bed.
As soon as I walked out, juli followed. "Dennis!" She called out, letting him know we were done.
"I'm coming!" Dennis shouted.
I sat down at the back of the car, bringing my phone out, I went to Instagram, I took a quick picture of myself and added it to my story with the caption, new day, new school, new me!
Dennis got into the car and soon, Juliana began to drive. I scrolled my home page of Instagram, liking pictures of celebrities, I heaved a sigh.
I wondered what the lives of celeb's were like. Do they laugh often as shown in the picture or do they cry? Do they have issues like every other human being? I mean I know they have issues but is it as often like ours?
As they show how they love their parents, are their parents really there for them unlike mine? I was so lost in my thoughts, whilst scrolling through the homepage of my Instagram account that I hadn't realised we just reached Dennis school.
Being an eight graders, I was sure he couldn't wait to be in high school. "Bye Juli, bye lily," Dennis said walking away while Juliana continued to drive.
"Liliana, once you get back, you must tell me all that happened today, hope you understand," Juliana said to me.
I heaved a sigh, "Okay mama!" I replied and she chuckled.
After reporting to the principal's office and getting my schedule, I looked for my way to my first class. I was completely nervous and I was sure it was obvious on my face. The hallway was empty which meant students were already in their classes.
"Excuse me ma," I called out to a woman who looked young, dressed in a two piece suit, with her blonde hair neatly packed in a ponytail.
"Excuse you, young lady," she replied as she moved closer to me.
"Good morning ma, I am a transferred student from Florida high school, I'm new here and I'm kinda lost," I said to her.
"Oh, the new student. Welcome to Diamond high school, the school for diamonds," she lamented.
I cringed when she said the school for diamonds, I shrugged the Ill feeling not wanting to feel uncomfortable on my first day.
"And what's your first subject?" She asked me.
I brought out my schedule, taking a look at my first subject again, "AP chemistry," I said to her.
"That's my subject, follow me," she said to me as she began to walk. I heaved a sigh, thanking my stars I met the right person.
As soon as she walked past the lab door and I followed suit, all eyes on me. I felt insecure suddenly as my heart began beating so fast that I could feel it on my head.
"Good morning students," the woman greeted and the class replied.
"What's your name?" The woman asked me once she settled down on her seat.
"Liliana Lim," i replied.
"Okay everyone. This is Liliana, a transferred student from Florida high school, she will be joining us.
Kindly welcome her and make her feel welcomed," The woman whose name I didn't know introduced me to everyone.
"Ms Lim, I am Mrs Donald. Please say a few things about yourself to the class," she said to me.
With my face looking at the floor, I introduced myself. "My name is Liliana, I love learning....and that's all," I said and I heard the mufflings of the class and silent chuckles.
"Find an empty seat," she ushered me and I made my way looking for a seat for myself.
So far, all three classes I had before break were good, I talked to no one and no one made an attempt to talk to me. I was about to leave and look for the cafeteria when someone pulled me back.
I turned around to see Ricardo, my neighbor. I never knew he was in this school. "We meet again Liana," be smiled.
"Hi," I greeted.
At least someone spoke to me.
"So you are newly transferred here?" He asked.
"Yes," I replied.
"And I thought you moved away already," he said to me.
"Oh..." I was suddenly speechless. I didn't know what to say or do. Everyone was kinda looking at me and I wondered why.
"Why is everyone staring at me?" I whispered.
He chuckled, "Ignore them," he said to me pulling me by my hands with him.
"Where are you taking me to?" I asked him.
"It's break and I'm sure you must be hungry," he said. I heaved a sigh, at least food comes my way.
I plopped down on the chair as soon as I entered the cafeteria.
"Do we join a queue to get food?" I asked him.
"Yes, tell me what you want and I'd tell my friends to get it, if you join the line, you won't be getting food soon, that I can tell you," he said to me.
I felt comfortable now, at least someone was talking to me and helping me.
"Where is your friend?" I asked him.
"He's the one ordering now, quickly tell me and let me text him," he said and I told him my orders.
Soon, two guys approached our table, one was in denim black jeans and a black jacket. He had blonde hair just like the other guy beside him but the other guy was tanned skinned, clad in a blue jumpsuit and white inner polo shirt.
They were both handsome no doubt and their cologne smell filled my nostrils.
"Hello beautiful," The one clad in a black denim jean and jacket greeted me, taking a seat beside me.
"Hi," I greeted shyly.
"Hello," the other one greeted me.
"So she's the new neighbor?" The one in a blue jumpsuit asked Ricardo.
"Yes," Ricardo said. "Liliana, meet Richard and Tyler, my friends," he introduced.
"Richard, Tyler, meet Liliana," he said and they greeted me again.
It wasn't after some minutes, two girls dressed in the same colour of clothing, the same show, doing their hair the same style and wearing the same make up approached us.
I wondered if they were twins because they didn't look identical. "Hi," they greeted with a very high and tiny pitch together.
One of them took a seat on Richard's lap, the guy sitting down beside me and the other took a seat beside Ricardo.
"Who is she?" The one sitting on Richard's lap asked.
"Liliana, meet Dorathy, and Mona, the two friends who love to act like twins," he introduced and I felt the urge to laugh because there was sarcasm laced on his tone.
"Dorathy and Mona, meet Liliana," he introduced me to them. None of them smiled while looking at me instead they shot glares at me.
