53. Sinful Book 1
Going to work felt too much for me, because I knew I was going to see something that would put me off; maybe I should’ve listened to Antonio when he told me to stab work, and stay home. My mental health was at risk at that point.
I arrived at work a little later than I was supposed to, and when I got to my office, I was met with an anonymous letter, more like letters, on my desk.
The first one read:
He’s wicked and inconsiderate.
The second one read:
He’s a bloody liar.
The third one read:
He’s just using you.
I just wanted to have a few words with whosoever was sending the messages. Nothing much, just five minutes.
The messages were haunting me, clawing at my mind to respond to them. I couldn’t even suspect Anabeth again, she was out of the picture. Whosoever was sending the messages had an issue with Antonio and not me, and Anabeth had an issue with me, not Antonio. If the messages were referring to me, then she’d be the one, but I could swear she wasn’t the one.
Dan had stopped disturbing me, probably because he knew I had something against him, or maybe it’s because I stopped replying to him anytime he talked to me; at least we know he had some sense of pride, or maybe it’s because Melissa didn’t let him come close to my office every since their encounter. Whatever the reason was though, Dan was out of the picture, or maybe he was, but he was irrelevant at that point.
I had no leads, no idea who the sender could be, nothing!
The only thing I could do was ask Antonio, and hope I’d at least get something from him.
After work, I packed all the anonymous messages I had received and put them into my bag. Something was off, and I was going to find out what was going on, no matter what.
Antonio hadn’t returned from work when I went home, which was weird as he was usually home before me, so I called him.
“Hey where are you?” I asked him.
“On my way home, where are you?” He asked back.
“I’m home, please hurry,” I told him and hung up.
While I was waiting for him to get back, I had a cold refreshing shower, and wore comfy clothes then I went down to the living room to wait for him there.
Antonio came rushing into the house lie he was being pursued.
“What’s wrong?” We asked at the same time, which was funny.
“When you told me to hurry, I thought something was wrong and you couldn’t talk,” he said and I laughed.
“No, I’m fine. Go freshen up” I smiled at him.
“Okay, you’re scaring me, but I’ll do as you say,” he gave me a quick kiss on my lips and headed upstairs to freshen up.
I paced back and forth in the living room, thinking of the best way to bring up the messages. A lot of thoughts ran through my mind; what if he doesn’t have the information I need? What if he does, but he doesn’t tell me? I shook my head, trying hard to keep an open mind. I didn’t want to judge him for anything, when I didn’t know a thing myself. How would I know he was lying when I didn’t know the truth?
“Hey, what’s wrong?” Antonio’s voice stopped me.
“A lot, come” I sat on a couch, tapping the space beside me.
“So I have been a little out of it lately, and work had been hard, well not work particularly, like being there” I started. I know I was stalling, but I didn’t know how else to bring it up.
“Why? Is everything alright?” He asked me and I shook my head in response.
“Is that guy, Dan?” He asked and I shook my head again.
“So then what is it?” He asked me.
“Well, I’ve been receiving anonymous messages, and I think whoever has an issue with you,” I told him. He had this look on his face that I couldn’t decipher.
“What did the messages say?” He asked. I took a deep breath and pulled out all the sticky notes from the pocket of the sweats I was wearing.
“Here,” I handed them over to him.
“I don’t think I have unfinished business with anyone, so who could this be?” He asked, and shrugged and folded my arms.
“Where did they keep these?” He asked.
“In my office, my desk” I replied.
“Has Noah contacted you ever since we started dating?” He asked and I shook my head.
“I can’t put this past him, he’s probably trying to break us up” he said.
“He doesn’t know we’re together,” I told him.
“Trust me, he does,” Antonio said and I nodded my head. Why didn’t I think of him in the first place. The messages fit perfectly with him, I mean he always had issues with Antonio because of me, and if he knew Antonio and I were dating, then it was probably him truly.
“I think I’ll call him to meet up or something, I need to tell him to stop,” I said.
“NO! You can’t do that!” Antonio yelled. What was his issue with yelling at me?
“Why?” I asked him.
“The messages are about me, I’ll talk to him myself” he said.
“The messages were sent to me, so I’ll talk to him,” I stood my ground.
“Baby, let me talk some sense into him. I promise we won’t do anything other than talk,” he said.
There was an odd feeling I was getting from Antonio’s behavior. I didn’t want to dwell on it, but he was acting off, like he was hiding something.
“Is there something you think I should know?” I asked him. He gave me a shocked look, then turned his face away from me.
“No, why? You don’t trust me?” He asked. I smiled and shook my head.
“I trust you, that is why I want to know if there’s something I should know, because I trust that you would tell me when something is wrong” I told him.
He let out a sight and hugged me.
“I promise there’s nothing” he said and I nodded my head.
I believe you, and I want to keep believing you.
