19. Sinful Book 2
I got in early to work, and the first thing I heard when Dan entered into the office was: “I really don’t get what is going on with Samantha,” I rolled my eyes at his words because honestly I was tired. I couldn’t go one day without Samantha being the center of every topic. It was either Samantha this or Samantha that. Like why can’t I just go one day without having to hear her name?
“Are you even listening to me?” Dan asked, waving his fingers in my face. I closed my eyes to force the rude and very bad words I was about to spew at him back down my throat. I shook my head instead.
“Tell me when we’re done with work because I’m not sure you know, but we have quite a lot to do,” I pressed my lips together. Dan probably turned his face away in anger or annoyance, I don’t know, as I kept my attention on the screen before me. I know looking at him would make me want to listen to what he had to say about Samantha, and I wasn’t ready for it, at all.
In a short while, Samantha had become all everyone around me was talking about; it was either about her sick state, or about how she wanted to be a good mother, Hell even Melissa that didn’t know shit about anything was talking about Samantha, and it’s all thanks to Dan.
When I told him in kinder words, that I didn’t want to know what he had to say about Samatha, he took his story to Melissa, who was listening without end, nodding her head and asking questions to understand better like she didn’t have any work to do. I had sighed and returned to my seat behind my desk and buried myself in work, as it was the only place I knew I wasn’t going to see anything that concerned Samantha or is about Samantha.
And so time passed by in a flash, and before I knew it, I was picking my phone which was ringing with Antonio’s name plastered on it seeing Diego run towards my desk and Dan and Melissa acting uncomfortable because of Antonio.
“Hey big man,” I tickled Diego’s stomach, making him laugh and hold me tighter.
“You didn’t tell me you were coming,” I smiled at Antonio. Antonio had let his hair down, and he looked a bit loose, well I guess that’s because he wasn’t wearing his suit jacket, and a few buttons of the dress shirt he had on were undone.
“Surprise, baby,” he waved his hands sarcastically. I laughed and put Diego down, going over to give Antonio a kiss that lasted a few more seconds than intended.
Antonio told me he came to get me for dinner, and Larry was going to take my car back home. I packed up immediately because lord knows how exhausted I became from burying my face in work, just so I wouldn’t hear anything that concerns Samantha, and we left for dinner.
After the conversation with Antonio yesterday, I felt his aura change, he seemed happy, excited for nothing in particular. We didn’t talk much after that statement he made about hating his mother because of this father because I didn’t want to ask anymore questions that would make him mention Samantha, but my efforts fell to the ground because Antonio asked me out for dinner just so he could talk about Samantha, I just didn’t know it yet.
I was quite excited for the dinner, because it had been a while since we came out like this, just having the night to ourselves, with Diego of course. Diego was most excited because Antonio told him he could have anything he wanted, even though it would potentially be harmful to him later at night, and despite my protest, the mischievous men shut me and my whining out, like I wasn’t even there.
The restaurant Antonio took us to was a new one, it belonged to one of Antonio’s business partners. Antonio had talked nonstop one the way there, about how much work was put into the building and how excited he was for his friend. It was almost impossible not to share in Antonio’s excitement, because the restaurant looked exactly like Antonio said it would look. It had pretty chandeliers hanging from the ceiling, and the soft nude aesthetic it had gave it a comfortable homey feel. The restaurant was beautiful, but I couldn’t wait to eat, because I felt like I could eat the food that was meant for five people, I was that hungry.
“Babe,” Antonio put his hand on mine when our dinner had arrived and I was stuffing my face. I looked up to him in confusion.
“So about that thing we were talking about the other day,” Antonio started. I rolled my eyes internally because I had a feeling it was going to be about the talk with his mother, and then Samantha.
“Yeah?” I cleared all emotion from my face, just focusing on stuffing my face with food, and making sure Diego was eating too.
“I thought hard about this, and I think we should let Samantha see Diego,” Antonio dropped the bomb. He went straight to the point, he didn’t even try going through his mother, he hit the nail on the head. I looked to my side, to Diego, he had his eyes on his father, like he couldn’t believe what he just heard.
“Couldn’t you have waited till we got home then have this conversation?” Because I didn’t see the use, talking about this during dinner, while Diego was present.
“Well, not really,” Antonio scratched his head. Not really? What did that even mean? I sighed.
I took out my phone and earpiece from my purse and handed it to Diego. I guess Diego knew what understood what was happening, because he collected the phone excitedly and started tapping away, forgetting his food.
“Why? Why should we give her a chance? So that Diego doesn’t grow up to hate you for making her stay away?” I perfectly understood his point and why he wanted to let Samantha back into the boys life, but this was a totally different case.
Antonio nodded.
“Did you forget that I adopted him? And she didn’t want him in the first place? Did you forget that the boy is scared of the woman? Did you forget that-”
“Calm down,” Antonio interjected.
“Don’t you see how different this is from what happened with you?” I was getting annoyed and frustrated.
“How is it any different?” Antonio’s brows were furrowed, which meant he was annoyed. He had no right to be annoyed at me, he was the one suggesting something that was unfair just because of his childhood traumas.
“Samantha did horrible things to the boy!” I raised my voice a little that it even got Diego’s attention. I took a breath to calm myself down, I was in a public space, and making a scene would only be an avenue for unnecessary gossip.
“Samantha is not right in the head, and the list goes on,” I was strongly against it for so many reasons, but I had to stop myself, I didn’t want to voice out the main reason why I didn’t want this, why this was a problem.
“Let’s give it a try,” Antonio squeezed my hand. I sighed and turned my face away from him to the little boy. Diego was sitting right there watching us argue about him, we didn’t even ask what he wanted because we think we’re making the right decision for him.
“It’ll only be for two hours and for one day of the week, for a start,” Antonio really did some thinking.
“I’m not in support of this, but I’ll talk to Diego and Dan. I just hope you didn’t forget what I told you; if anything happens-”
“Nothing will happen,” for the love of God, I hope you’re right.
