20. Sinful Book 2
"Sewa, I'm sure you can say something, or do something," Noah grabbed my hands while I was trying to fit my phone and phone charger into my purse.
It has been a week since my talk with Antonio about Samantha and Diego, and the day Antonio picked as the first day of the reconciliation of which Dan wasn't a fan to.
Throughout the day, Dan had been begging and demanding that I do something to stop Samantha or Antonio; I really wanted to, but I didn’t have much say in the matter, not when Antonio was feeling he had the best idea. Poor Diego; I could see the fear in his eyes. When Antonio told him about his plan to bring his birth mother into his eyes, he almost shit himself. Diego hates the woman, and her presence isn’t going to fix the hate or mend his his broken heart.
“Dan, do I look like I’m a fan of this?” I dropped my bag in frustration.
“But you’re not doing anything to stop it,” Dan mumbled but I heard him. I rolled my eyes in response and carried on with putting my things in my bag.
“Look, I tried my best to stop it, you don’t even know half of what I’m feeling right now. Diego doesn’t want this, and presently there’s nothing I can do to help him,” I took a deep breath, closing my eyes to say the words. It was the first time I felt helpless in this way, and it bothered me.
“Do you know what she told me?” Dan asked, referring to Samantha.
“She said if I didn’t let her do this, she’s going to kill herself,” Dan sighed.
I understood Dan to some extent, I understood him and his love for Samantha, but at times like this, when she says unreasonable things, it makes me wonder why Dan is still bothered with her. Samantha was not helping Dan in anyway, instead she was frustrating the man, who dedicated his life to her and her health.
“I’m sorry to say, but I don’t trust her one bit with him, that’s why I’m closing early. I’m going to be with them throughout the two hours because Lord knows what she’d do to the boy if they’re alone,” I let out a sigh of frustration. I just wished Antonio would listen to me and forget about this project, “make up with mom” he’s trying to do.
“Please try to make her see why this is a bad idea,” Dan placed his hands on mine, with teary eyes, and sadness etched on every part of his face. If anything, Dan was the only person who could stop Samantha, but he was coming to me instead, which only fueled my suspicion that Dan was scared of Samantha.
I wanted to say something, anything, that would make Dan come to his senses, but I didn’t know the first thing about his relationship with Samantha so I couldn’t say anything. It wasn’t my place to make demands about his love life, but the man was suffering, and what’s worse? He doesn’t talk about it.
When I got home, Samantha was waiting by the gate. I demanded that their first meeting be in the house, where it’s safe for Diego if he wanted to run and hide. Antonio tried to stand against the meeting happening in the house, but I made it clear to him that there’s no other way it could happen; he either let them in the house or forget about the whole thing. Antonio agreed immediately. Something wasn’t sitting right with me and the whole thing. Antonio had explained to me in detail why he wanted to do this and how it’s runs deep for him and what not, but the way he was acting, it wasn’t like him, like he’s only doing these things because of a certain type of threat, of course it is just my speculation, but I may be right.
“You’re home,” Samantha smiled, it was the kind of smile you can tell is fake. I smiled back, just as fake as hers were. It was very obvious Samantha didn’t want me around her and Diego, but I came to make sure nothing happens to my son.
“Yeah, I’m home. I thought you’d need some help with Diego. He’s spent quite some time away from you, so I thought decided I’d be here so it won’t be awkward between you two,” I smiled, then rushed in to get changed into more comfortable clothes. I swear I thought I heard Samantha say something, but it was too faint to make out what she said.
When I was done changing, I came down to find Antonio and Samantha- no, samantha staring at Antonio while Antonio was talking to Diego. None of them heard me come in, but Diego noticed and ran to me immediately, hugging my legs tight as he screamed, “mommy!”
I smiled down at the little boy, ruffling his hair as he held unto me. I looked up to Antonio, he smiled and walked over to me, “hey baby,” he kissed my cheek.
“Hey,” I smiled. I was still discontent about this arrangement, I didn’t want it at all, and I couldn’t hide it, not even from Antonio.
“I came to drop him off, I’ll be going back to work now, I have a meeting in twenty minutes,” Antonio placed his right hand on my face. I gave him a tight lipped smile and nodded.
“What do you want for dinner?” I asked him. Antonio paused and smiled from his eyes.
“Anything is fine, bye babe,” Antonio gave me a quick kiss and power walked out of the house.
I purposely looked at Samantha to make out what she was thinking, but she wasn’t looking at me or Diego, she was looking down at her fingers instead. I cocked my head to the side, trying to figure her out, but Diego tugging at my sweats pulled my attention away from her to him.
“Mommy, I want a milkshake,” Diego smiled. I ruffled his hair some more, then took his back pack away from him.
“Let’s get you changed, hm?” I asked him and he nodded his head. I turned to Samantha.
“I need to talk to him, we’ll be down in no time, Then we can go get the milkshake for him,” Samantha nodded in response.
I held unto Diego’s hands as I led him away from Samantha and up the stairs. If there was anything I wasn’t comfortable with about Samantha, it would be her pretense. The way she could hide her true motives, didn’t sit well with me, and Antonio who claims he knows everything about Samantha, what she can and can’t do, couldn’t even see through her hypocrisy. Truly, if it wasn’t for Aaliyah, I probably would still be in the dark about her.
Whether or not Samantha had motives, forcing Diego to accept her back after all the horrible things she did to him, was purely wrong, and since my words were not enough to convince Antonio, I’d let Samantha and Diego convince him. Samantha could pretend, but it wouldn’t last long until she shows what a horrible person she is. It would be too much for her to hide, especially when Antonio keeps touching and kissing me when she’s around.
