21. Sinful Book 2
We arrived at Noah’s cafe, and we were received by Noah himself who seemed excited to see me; his excitement didn’t go unnoticed by Samantha. Noah has even gone out of his way to remind me that I’d always receive VIP service whenever I come to his cafe.
Diego easily found a table for us, which he ran to like the milkshake was already there waiting for him. Noah and I smiled at Diego lovingly, making me forget for a second that Samantha was right there with us.
“Would you like anything?” I asked Samantha. She pressed her lips together, looking around the cafe before finding my eyes and shaking her head. I nodded and turned to Noah.
“Who is she?” Noah asked curiosity etched on every part of his face.
“Diego’s mother,” Samantha pointed at Diego at the table which was a safe distance from where we stood. My mouth hung slightly open as I watched Samantha. It wasn’t her words that bothered me, it was the tone in her voice. It was sharp and direct, meaning it was sent to pierce whoever was listening to her, and it did. The tone in her voice was like a slap to my face.
“I’m sorry, was I not supposed to say it?” Samantha put her hands over her mouth, looking like she was genuinely concerned about her words. God, I couldn’t stand her.
I pressed my lips together and turned to Noah; with an internal smile, I nodded my head, “Yes, she gave birth to Diego,” I smiled. I passed Samantha to see the look on her face and I was satisfied. I had replied with the same tone she had used. I didn’t want to set her right didn’t mean I could be taken for a fool.
“Would you like to order the milkshake for Diego?” I asked her. If Samantha was going to claim mother, then she should know what Diego likes and what he doesn’t. Samantha smiled, scratched the back of her head, she looked towards Diego, and back at us. Her smile was awkward now.
“I’m sure you know what he likes, please carry on,” Samantha looked down at her fingers. That’s what I thought.
“Plain vanilla please,” I smiled at Noah who had been watching us with interest. He smiled back and told us to wait by the table. Samantha walked awkwardly towards the table, with a scowl on her face, a scowl that Diego saw, and ran to hide in my clothes. If the kid could hide from her while I was present, what would he do when I’m not? This whole thing is a bad idea, and I’ll never get tired of saying it.
Noah came three minutes later with the milkshake and his phone in his hands, he sat down, passed the milkshake to Diego who was too eager to take it from him, then he turned to me.
“So how have you been?” Noah asked, he had a small smile playing on his beautiful face. It had been too long since I saw Noah that I had forgotten just how beautiful the man is. Noah has reduced his beard from the full-face beard he had, and he looked even better.
“I’m okay, Noah, just working and taking care of my family,” I smiled back.
“As expected, you’re still with Antonio. Wait, family? You married him?” I couldn’t answer him because Samantha seemed to have choked on her saliva.
“Sorry, continue,” Samantha got up, tapping on her chest repeatedly, coughing out while keeping her eyes on me. I urged her to sit while Noah went over to get water for her, which she downed in one gulp.
I turned to Noah to find him watching me, waiting for the answer to his question.
I looked down at my left hand with a sad smile on my face, then I shook my head.
“I’m not married to Antonio,” I looked up at Noah. He didn’t look content but he nodded anyway.
“I’m sorry I think I’m getting things mixed up here, were you guys in a relationship?” Samantha asked. I knew I should’ve shut that question down as fast as it came, but I didn’t and it became a problem.
Diego, Samantha, and I had left Noah’s cafe shortly after I answered Samantha’s question, which left an awkward air between Noah and me. When we got home, Antonio was home, he had changed into comfortable grey sweats and a white shirt; and he was looking at his tab with his right index finger on his lower lip, while the reading glasses he had on sat beautifully on his nose, and his long hair tied up in a messy bun, with a few tendrils hanging around his face. Antonio was easily the most beautiful human I ever set my eyes on, and him being mine gave him a bonus.
“Daddy,” Diego ran to Antonio, jumping on his body as we went. Antonio smiled and hugged the little boy, patting his head.
“Where have you been?” Antonio asked Diego with an adoring smile on his face.
“Mommy took me out to have a milkshake,” Diego smiled proudly. Diego’s answer seemed to have given Samantha the opening that she wanted because she turned to me with an innocent smile playing on her face.
“Noah, was it? That cafe is honestly impressive,” Samantha started. I believe that if looks could kill, Samantha would be long dead by now. Antonio on the other hand looked confused, then shocked as his eyes traveled from me to Samantha.
“Do you know if he’s single?” Samantha smiled. This witch! I passed her a small smile and shook my head.
“He is, but not for girls in relationships,” I smiled and Antonio scoffed as Samantha smiled. I looked down at my watch and looked back up at Samantha.
“Oh look, it’s been two hours. Sam, thank you for doing this,” I smiled at her, and did the only thing I knew would make her uncomfortable; I left the living room with Diego, going up to Diego’s room to get him changed.
When I went back to the living room, Samantha was gone and so was Antonio, but he had been in the kitchen.
Antonio came back out with a glass of water for me, his eyebrows furrowed as he watched me drink the water.
“Noah is back in town?” He asked, just like I knew he would. I nodded in response.
“Did anything special happen?” This was Antonio’s jealousy talking, and I knew better than to feed it. So I drank my water, coming off nonchalant to him and his questions.
“Nothing happened, babe,” I smiled and placed a quick kiss on his lips.
“It’s not like you saw him on purpose, right?” I knew it was going to take a moment before he’d ask something disgusting like this.
“I did, I drove to the cafe knowing he owns it,” I smiled back at him. I wanted to keep myself, pick my words right so I wouldn’t feel his jealousy, but sometimes Antonio bothered me with the things he says, whether he means them or not.
“Sewa,” Antonio’s tone was filled with warning.
“I think you should work on your trust, Antonio, because if you can’t or if you don’t trust me, then I really don’t see the point of this relationship, we’re merely wasting our time,” I rolled my eyes and made my way to leave, when Antonio grabbed my arm.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean it that way. I was just kidding, chill mami,” Antonio smiled, and then he pulled me to him before adoring my face with kisses.
He was just kidding? Fine.
