Why he did it
Alana pouted cutely and ate her soup peacefully. In actual reality, she was trying to avoid Brigitte's angry stare. Of course, Brigitte wasn't happy as she waited for Alana to speak up.
“So, aren't you going to explain why…you lied to me,” Brigitte finally spoke and Alana licked her lips for a while and glanced up with an innocent facial expression?
“Well, it wasn't a big deal,” Alana muttered more like to herself and Brigitte frowned even more.
“He's your husband, and you didn't bother to tell me… Alana, I thought you considered me as your friend,” Brigitte lashed out and turned away from Alana,
“Seriously, I didn't think it was necessary… and well, I was at peace working there without anyone knowing I'm his wife,” Alana replied hesitantly, Brigitte came to the house to see her after a few days of getting out of the hospital. She didn't stop scolding her for not telling her the truth about being married to Ricardo.
“Everyone including me thought you were having an affair with the boss…which is not,” Brigitte said and sat on the bed beside Alana. Of course, a wanted to laugh at how cute Brigitte looked with a frown. But things were different now, all of them knew she was Ricardo's wife.
“Well, I'm his wife…and secretary," Alana remarked, grabbing Brigitte's hands to coax her to forgive her. Brigitte made a thinking face then nodded.
“Fine, but from now on…don't let that Eva step on you…show her you are above all of us in that company,” Brigitte said disdainfully and Alana let out a chuckle and let go of her. She had gotten better after taking her meds. Marcela frequently visited her. Although most times she came, she forced Ricardo into doing things he didn't want. Like helping her with bathing, eating and other stuff. Alana was happy Brigitte found some time to see her. She greatly needed a friend to talk to.
“Are you certain… I don't believe this,” Alana exclaimed in disbelief when Brigitte finished telling her exactly what happened the day she fell sick.
“The boss fired her, but she begged and cried to the boss, he felt bad obviously and let her stay,” Brigitte said with a scoff, Alana was intrigued. She didn't expect Eva to do such a thing. She deliberately added peanuts to the pie despite knowing she was allergic.
“We can't do anything, if she said she didn't know…then no one can blame her,” it was cemented, Eva pleaded to Ricardo and told her she didn't do it on purpose; hence the entire thing was regarded as a mere accident or was it a coincidence.
“Please be careful with her. Did you know Felix was moved from project manager to work in the accounts department,” Brigitte remarked and rose from the bed, Alana saw an opportunity and attempted to get out of bed when Brigitte shot angry daggers at her to stay still.
“But I need him, did he appoint another one?” Alana didn't expect Ricardo to move Felix to another department when he was doing fine as the project manager. Brigitte shrugged and walked around the room. She didn't know she would enter their boss's room, it was spacious and beautiful. So well-kept and bright. From the design to the bedding.
“I'm not certain, but you can ask him…or maybe he's planning to appoint you,” Brigitte said, and her eyes widened in amusement, Alana froze but shook her head in denial.
“I'm not qualified, besides that… I have something to tell him,” she didn't want the job, she had something to tell Ricardo. Brigitte saw Alana's worried expression and walked back to the bed.
“What's wrong, do you have something to tell me?” Brigitte asked, narrowing her eyes suspiciously, Alana nodded instantly and Brigitte gestured her to go on. Just as Alana was about to speak, the door creaked open, Brigitte immediately realized who just walked in and moved away from Alana.
“Mrs. Suarez, thanks for coming,” Ricardo said as soon as he walked in, Alana saw how uncomfortable Brigitte looked being addressed as a married woman.
“It's nice to see you, sir,” Brigitte said shyly Ricardo nodded and ignored her completely.
“Alana, I'll be on my way, take care of yourself and see you tomorrow," Brigitte said and half-hugged Alana, both said goodbye and Brigitte left immediately. It was strange being in the same room as the boss.
When Brigitte left the room, there was an awkward silence in the room. Alana fiddled with her hands and watched Ricardo from the corners of her eyes. He was searching for something from the shelves. She scanned him from head to toe. And he looked ordinary,
Just a man wearing black sweatpants, a black muscle shirt and some house slippers with his hair a little messy. He looked even more handsome in just regular clothes.
In suits, he always appeared imposing and somewhat scary.
“What are you looking at?” Alana's trail of thoughts was broken by Ricardo's voice, only to realize the man was standing in front of her. And she had been staring at him without blinking.
“Well, I…” Alana stammered and attempted to get out of bed when Ricardo reached for her hand. Time seemed to have stopped by, and Alana's heart thumped loudly when Ricardo touched her.
“Stay, I don't want you getting sick and Marcela holding me by the neck,” surprisingly. Ricardo said sarcastically and Alana composed herself. She had been confined to bed for so long. She acted to move around and explore the mansion.
“I'm fine, sir… I'm sure mother-in-law will understand I have work to do,” Alana tucked some strands of hair behind her ear and lowered her head. Ricardo watched her in anticipation before he shoved a blue file in her hands. Startled, Alana glanced up, and the man was looking at her with a lazy expression.
“Congratulations Mrs. Romero, you've been promoted to project manager,” Ricardo said with a straight face and pointed his index finger at the file in her hands. It took a while for Alana to regain her wits. Was he kidding her? Alana shifted her gaze from the file to Ricardo.
“S-sir…this isn't necessary… I mean,” Alana was troubled, he fire Felix and gave her the position.
“What? Is it too little, do you need a higher position?” Ricardo asked, arching his brows suspiciously. Alana shook her head. She wasn't thinking about that. But something else.
“I can't accept it,” she shoved the file away and Ricardo was perplexed as he stared at her for a good amount of time then raised a questionable brow.
“I'm only doing this because Marcela asked me…” he simply said coldly and Alana's facepalmed herself in disbelief.
“Sir, why did you tell them I'm your wife?” Alana asked him instead of commenting on what he said. Ricardo seemed to have realized something because he shifted from side to side, still looking at her with a blank expression.
“You said no one at the office had to know I'm your wife…you broke the rule yourself…why?” Alana added, seeing how speechless he looked, she wasn't scared to ask him. Because it had been bothering her since the time she heard him tell everyone about their relationship.
On the other hand, Ricardo was tongue-tied, he too wanted to know why he lost it and blurted out Alana was his wife.
“Ahem…well…” he cleared his throat awkwardly and scratched the back of his neck a little. There was nothing to think about, and Alana was seeking answers.
“Tell me, sir, then I'll accept this new position,” Alana said with a straight face and looked him in the eye. It was impossible to avoid Alana's big, round, sparkly eyes. Why did he do it? Ricardo cried in his heart and regretted it altogether.
