Make it up to you
That gave me something to think about for days. Who might be the reason why they’re all charged at the same time and same case. For sure that is not a coincidence, like Lulu has said.
One dinner, Aciel and I were both seated at his dining table while I ate and he seemed to be really busy with his phone the entire time of dinner. While I can’t even eat my food because of the thoughts that’s clouding my mind.
His call ended. He continued to touch his food again.
”Alia,”
I lift my eyes to him with questioning eyes.
”Is everything alright?”
”Yes.” No. I wanna say.
”What did you do the entire day?”
I sighed because he asked that question again for the second time. I played with my food more using my fork.
“I told you, I came to the library again. “ I said with a slight tone of annoyance.
He narrowed his eyes on me. “Alright, I’m sorry. We were talking about it when Dorothy called.”
I ignored his words.
”Did something happen?”
”Happened what?”
”I don’t know. Any reason why you’re like this?” he said.
My lips parted thinking that my attitude might be so obvious. I’m thinking about it so much that he’s noticing it now. I felt more frustrated. He might have suspicion of the things that I do while outside.
”Nothing.” I said more to myself. “Nothing,” I spoke again, this time convincing myself and him.
He wiped his lips with the cloth on the table. “Are you sure? Mind telling me anything?”
I sighed harshly. “I told you what happened earlier, right? Why are you making me repeat it all again? It’s because you’re always on the phone, even during our meal? That’s why you’re like a broken record with those questions of yours.” I bit my tongue inside because of how offending my tone was.
His jaw clenched hard making his jaw protrude. I avoided his gaze. I’m afraid he might see that I’m just blabbing those things so I can put the blame and topic on him.
I heard him clearing his throat. “Okay. I’m sorry that I have to entertain that. I just need to settle some things.”
I ignored his words again by just looking at my food.
”I just wanna ask because you’re acting so differently today. You look absent.”
I was a bit shaken by that. I look at him.
”Me? Looking absent? It’s you who’s asking questions repeatedly, Elijah.”
His nose flared because of my snap. “Yeah. And I said I’m sorry. Is it wrong to ask you about what happened to your day? I’m just curious because you’ve been so busy these days. Why are you so upset?” he said in a mild annoyed and soft tone.
”You’re the one who’s busy here. Entertaining calls at all times, anywhere. If you want to know my errands, then tail me! Not asking me the same questions every day.” I rolled my eyes.
This is actually so petty. I know I’m just reasoning things outs because I want to put all the attention on him and not on me.
He sighed, calming himself. “Alright. Let’s not shout in front of supper.”
”You’re the one who started this.”
”I said I’m sorry.” he said so softly.
Afraid that the conversation might escalate, I stood, ending my time there.
”Never mind. I’m tired. I’m gonna go rest.” I said coldly.
I felt guilty leaving him there alone. He did nothing. It’s just me avoiding him and his questions. It’s true that I'm absent minded. My mind's thoughts won’t leave me. He even noticed it. I shrugged it all off and went to sleep.
”Alight. You can just email Mr. Acosta about those papers and his secretary will be the one in charge.”
Early in the morning, like what my routine is, I woke up early to see Aciel leave for work. I heard his voice talking to someone as I walked the hallway. And when I arrived at the end, I saw his bare back, wearing just training shorts.
My forehead creased. I think he felt my presence causing him to turn his head into my direction.
”No, I’ll not entertain calls for the whole day… Thank you.”
”Morning,” he greeted.
I eyed him curiously as I went in his direction. “You’re not going to w-work?”
He went to me and kissed my forehead before answering. “No. I have the whole day ahead.”
I became fidgety. But why? Isn’t he busy? He’s busy. He's not going to work. So that means, no library for me? No making plans with Lulu?
”I’ll just do some lifts. Do you want to cook or I’ll just order the chef?”
”Uhm… I-I’ll cook.” I smiled raw.
He smiled and touched my hair that’s falling on my face.
”Alright. I’m sorry about last night. Let me make it up with you.” he uttered under his breath while brushing his thumb to my skin.
I gulped and nodded with a fake smile. What the hell? I don’t need him here. What does he mean to make it up to me? I can’t go if he’s here!
I watched him leave and went into the direction of his gym. I couldn’t think straight while preparing our breakfast. When he came back to the dining room he had already taken a bath. His hair is damp from shower and a white shirt is hugging his body paired with gray lounge shorts.
True enough, he’s a bit different today. He’s not entertaining calls so our breakfast is silent. He’s asking me questions sometimes then back to the silence again.
”So what are your plans for today?” he asked.
”Uhm, nothing.”
”Nothing?” he raised a brow.
I nodded and bit my lips.
”Aren’t you going to the library like you always do?”
I sighed. Now, he’s bringing this up.
”Yeah, b-but you’re here and I should be here too.” I quickly thought of this reason.
”No. Don’t worry. I’m free all day. You can go to the library and I’ll come with you.”
I stopped myself from showing that I’m shocked. I eyed him.
”Y-you what?”
”I’m coming with you.” he shrugged.
All I can do is gulp due to nervousness.
”To know your errands right? Like what you suggested to me last night.” he smiled a little.
”Ha…Haha! Yeah! I forgot.” I laughed raw and ridiculously. He’s what?
”Why? You don’t want me to come with you?”
I couldn’t answer. My honesty would tell him that he shouldn’t be with me for the rest of my life but my plasticity would tell otherwise.
”Unless you’re hiding something from me.”
”No!” I said.
He narrowed his eyes on me.
”Okay! You can go. You’ll get bored anyways.” I blinked and avoided his gaze.
He smirked and didn’t say anything.
