Chapter 59
“I don’t have a good explanation to defend myself how much of an asshole I am of a father to you.” Tears started to pour from his eyes to his cheeks. “This is probably karma biting back to me.”
“Why?” I asked. I was a bit surprised cause I thought I’d be completely emotional about this. But I only felt emptiness. I guess after all that’s happened today, I don’t know what to feel anymore. Today was just so overwhelming.
I watched him all devastated in front of me. My dad who once looked handsome and proud, now looked so frail.
“Why did you treat me like I was nothing?” His son was watching us back and forth innocently as we spoke. He was still so young and naive. He probably didn’t know he actually had a half sister.
He clenched his fists as he gritted his teeth.
“You know what? You really don’t need to answer it.” His eyes widened as I stopped him from answering.
I really don’t care anymore.
He looked afraid of what I’m about to say. I sighed before continuing. “I want to forget about it. I want things to be at least fine between us. That’s why I came to your house to talk. Silena said you were ill. From the sound of it, it was pretty serious. She even said you were bedridden. I didn’t want to care about you at first because let’s face it… you hurt me. You were my father but it felt like you took away everything from me. My childhood, my home, a chance to have a real family.”
“Kura.” He spoke while restraining his tears. “I’m truly sorry. I regret everything I did.”
I continued ignoring his apology. “I thought Silena lied to me because I saw you standing at your door.” I paused as I watched him steadily. “I realized… I was wrong. I was blinded by anger and hatred and grudge that I wasn’t able to see you properly. Honestly though, I felt pity right now towards you.” Tears began to pool my eyes until I couldn’t contain it and it fell to my cheek. “And I’m also so sorry because I’m the reason why we’re here. She wouldn’t be like this if it weren't for me. If I weren’t so stubborn.”
“Kura, no.” He exclaimed as he stood from his seat and came to me. He knelt to my side as he took my hand clasped between his. “It’s not your fault at all. It was just an accident. No one saw it coming.”
I frowned. But the driver didn’t stop and just sped past us. It was obviously hit and run. I’ll talk to him about it once we have news of Silena.
“I should be the one to be blamed for all of this.” He said lowly.
I turned slightly towards him and shook my head. “Please, get up.”
He shook his head, closing his eyes. “No. I’m not going to get up unless you hear my apologies. I don’t need you to forgive me. I just want you to know how sorry I am, Kura. No words or anything could measure how sorry I am, how regretful I am. My only daughter. I am so sorry.” He cried.
“Please, get up.” I unwind my hand from his and pull him to get up. He didn’ budge and just cried in front of me. My heart clenched at the sight. “It’s alright, okay. I’ll try, dad. I’ll try. It would be hypocritical of me to forgive you this instant. But I do want to work things out so I’m going to try for us. ”
He looked at me with wide eyes. He was shocked. He smiled at me and nodded. “Thank you.”
I smiled before giving him a hug. His breath stilled before embracing me back with his arms. “I missed you, honey. I really did. You are always my daughter. Nothing can change that.”
“I know.” I say as I feel his warmth as my father.

A few hours later, we got the news from the doctor that Silena was now fine. Her injuries were on her left arm and on her head from the impact of the fall. She also had a mild concussion. Her legs have scrapes and bruises. It will hurt if she walks so she had to stay in bed until she recovers.Thankfully, her injuries weren’t that serious but still there was a lot of damage from the accident.
“Dad, aren’t you going to talk to the police about this? This is clearly a hit and run.” The police are trying to get a statement from him but he’s been refusing. He wanted to stay by her side until she wakes up.
He shook his head. “Not until she wakes up.” I watched my dad holding Silena’s uninjured hand. His face was full of concern and impatience.
I looked down while thinking. Their relationship changed a lot in ten years. I mean, what do I expect, right? Things are bound to change gradually.
I’m actually pretty happy for them because what they have is real. I can see it with my own eyes now that I’m not trying to be blind anymore.
Before letting him stay here, I convinced him to have his check up first. He didn’t look good. Surprisingly, he relented. His blood pressure was high so the doctor warned him not to overstress. Now I’m worried for the two.
I sighed as I let him be. I turned and my attention was caught on to Dilan, my little brother. He was sitting on the chair while hugging his teddy bear. He was staring at his parents. He suddenly turned his attention to me and then looked down when our eyes met.
He’s been really quiet and behaved. I wonder if he’s normally like this.
“I’m going to get some food.” I informed my dad. He blankly nodded. I sighed before approaching Dilan. “Do you want anything, little man?”
He looked up to me and averted his eyes, looking down again. He slowly shook his head. I noticed his cheeks were reddening. So he was actually just shy.
“You want something sweet?” I asked again. He shyly nodded without looking at me. I patted his head before leaving. For someone his age, he was kind of small but I find him very cute.
Amidst these problems, he was the light. I appreciate his presence because he was calming his dad. I know for sure that my father was just restraining his emotions not to scare his son. If I were in his position, I would’ve done the same thing.
As I walked out of the hospital, I shivered from the cold that was growing by the day. I regretted not bringing my car. I could use a heater right now. Despite that, I still wanted to walk. Walking helps me think.
As I walked further, I sensed someone following me. I hear the consistent sound of footsteps trailing behind. Why did I even notice this in the middle where there is no one around?
Fuck.
I gathered enough courage to turn around and face the culprit.
I gasped and staggered back when I saw his face.
