Chapter 61
Nile
Our board meetings happen once a month. My dad and mom always host a short dinner party in one of our biggest hotels after the meeting. A short celebration for the company’s achievements.
I was just about to give my key to the valet when Marshall Reed called. He was my friend who works in the police department with a high rank. I usually go to him whenever I feel like following the law.
He knew about my problem with Jacob and suggested that he’d take care of him instead of me keeping him in a cell, torturing him until… he dies. He advised that the law should handle this since he played a huge part in underground businesses. This could lead them to other criminals who are under their wanted lists.
I gave in to his idea once I was satisfied with how my men tortured him. I honestly wanted to destroy his face and cripple him myself but I couldn’t have the heart to leave Kura ever since she had that nightmare.
It’s a good thing that Kura wasn’t that completely traumatized cause if she were psychologically, I would’ve killed him with no second thoughts.
And I should’ve after hearing Marshall’s news.
“What the fuck did you just say?!” I bellowed at the entrance of the hotel. My parents, who had just arrived arm in arm, looked at me surprised at my outburst. They stopped and watched me in concern.
“We’re looking for him right now as we speak. I apologize for the inconvenience, my friend. This is-”
Of course, he’d escape. He’s a fucking drug lord who had countless connections. It might not have crossed our minds but sure as hell, he’ll find a way to escape from fucking jail. I am just so stupid that I didn’t consider that.
“Inconvenience?! Marshall, do you know what happens if that man is out there lurking somewhere?! He’s going to fucking take Kura. Do you understand the gravity of that?!”
“I’m sorry-”
“I don’t need your apologies. Just fucking find him! Don’t make an example of my power, Marshall. I shouldn’t have trusted you and your goddamn system! We all know it’s just a piece of shit!”
“Nile-”
I ended the call, cutting him off. I almost threw my phone on the wall but realized that I need it right now the most.
My parents watched me with wide eyes as I stomped my way back towards the car.
“Nile.” My dad called. “What’s wrong? Where are you going?” He asked in concern. My mom was looking at me with the same expression.
“I’ll be skipping the dinner party.” I answered curtly as I opened the car’s door.
My mom stepped forward and asked, “Whatever is wrong, darling? Perhaps we can help.”
“Just stay here with the guests. I’ll take care of it myself.”
“Nile!” My mom called my attention again before I got in the car. She really looked worried for me. I can’t help but tell her the truth.
“It’s Kura. She needs me.”
She suddenly grabs my arm and pulls me in for a kiss on my cheek. She then grabs my face with both of her hands.”Take care, alright? If you need something, just call.”
I nodded. I looked at my dad and nodded to him as well. He nodded back.
I didn’t hesitate to drive at maximum speed, swerving my way in the busy streets of the city. Because of how preoccupied my mind was with Kura, it took a long time for me to realize that I should’ve called Colton.
I was almost near their area when I called him. Thankfully, he answered right away. He was in distress when I told him the news. It didn’t help when Kura was out there meeting her family. I just hope she’s at least inside their house right now with their little reunion so I could go and get her myself.
They were smart enough to let her turn on her location so he could track her. My mind almost shut down when he told me her location was in the hospital.
I stopped by his cafe to get him. He immediately got inside the car in haste.
“She’s moving.” He said as he buckled his seatbelt. “It’s probably Alexander who’s admitted and not her.” He looked at his phone again. “She’s going outside. We have to hurry. It’s dangerous for her to be out.”
I sped up the car and followed her location. Just in time we saw her in a secluded alley with Jacob clinging to her. We ruined his moment when Colton called her.
---
My eyes widened, shocked that he pulled the trigger. I froze for a minute watching Kura slumped against Colton. Blood pooled out where she was hit. I slowly turned my head to Jacob.
He was shocked, himself, at what he did. I knew he was testing us by pointing the gun to Colton. He knew we won’t provoke him as long as the gun is pointed at either of us. However, he made a mistake by shooting Colton.
Kura would do anything for her friends. Let alone Colton, her best friend.
I felt myself on fire from the neverending rage building up inside me. There’s nothing more that I want right now but to completely erase his existence right here, right now.
I stomped threateningly towards him with an adamant purpose.
His hands were shaking as he slowly put down the gun, staring at it with wide eyes. There was a look of regret and pain in his face. His eyes glinted with tears.
He had the fucking nerve to feel this way.
His head turned to the side as I hit him with my fist. He fell down hard on the ground when I gave him another one of my powerful punches. Blood and spit spurted out from his mouth, bruises kept adding up to his face as it already started swelling.
“Look at what you did to her! You do not have the right to feel our pain because you did this to her!” I screamed as I punched and kicked him incessantly.
I grabbed his collar and lifted him from the ground through it. “If something…” I couldn’t speak the word. I was scared and in pain. “happens to her…”
I watched him almost lifeless and hopeless. He never even retaliated. He took my hits willingly. That’s when I realized as I watched him intensely.
Jacob was obsessed with her. And I knew from the look he showed right now… he loves her.
Out of fury and jealousy, I punched him again and again and again. I didn’t even hear Colton screaming my name to stop. I was woken up from my rage when he mentioned her.
“We need to take her to the hospital, Nile. She’s bleeding really badly.” Colton’s voice was full of pain. He was trying not to sob.
His words shook me awake and I immediately threw Jacob to the ground. I still wasn’t satisfied with what I did but it made me quite happy to watch him unresponsive and half dead.
I quickly ran to their side. My heart was crying when I saw her lifeless body. She was hit somewhere on her back. Just please not her heart or anywhere near it.
I hastily looked for her pulse, eager to know if there’s even little. It will assure us her chance.
I was glad that she did. It was faint so we needed to hurry her to the hospital. My arms were ready to scoop her up but I stopped short when I remembered something.
If I leave that bastard here, he will continue to harass us. We will be back to square one again. I can’t risk that. I will not risk that.
“Colton, can you bring her to the hospital?” He was in a mess. I thought for sure that I’d be the one who would not know what to do. That I’d be consumed by rage and pain that I will wreak havoc here.
“What about you?”
“I need to stay here and wait for my men. If we don’t take care of him, who knows what he’ll do next. They are on their way. I’ll follow once he’s secured.” I said as I placed my hand on his shoulder to comfort him.
He nodded before scooping Kura in his arms and quickly walked towards my car that was parked a couple of meters away.
