Alpha Maseno
The meeting ended as quickly as I had expected. Everyone seemed to be on the same page, and decisions were made efficiently. It was a productive use of our time, and I left feeling satisfied with the outcome. I shook hands with the six gentlemen who sat around the table and expressed my gratitude for their contributions to the meeting.
They reciprocated the gesture and emphasized their appreciation for my leadership in facilitating the efficient discussion. I walked out of the conference room feeling a sense of accomplishment and optimism for future collaborations with this group.
Sony came after me, files tucked under his arm, and mentioned that he was impressed with how smoothly the meeting had gone. He expressed his confidence in our ability to continue making progress as a team and suggested scheduling a follow-up meeting to further discuss the action items.
"Since you brought up that, you can ask my assistant to arrange for that follow-up meeting because I have a busy schedule for the next few days. Additionally, I think it would be beneficial to invite a few key stakeholders from other departments to ensure a well-rounded discussion and maximize the potential for successful outcomes in our future collaborations." I asked him.
"Sure Alpha. I'll go to him right away because, as per the schedule, you have another meeting in the next few minutes. I'll leave you to prepare for it." He replied.
"Won't you be attending this meeting with me? This is City X's investor we are talking about. He is so arrogant and all-knowing, and so far, you are the only person you can have a smooth conversation with since you have high levels of patience." I told him.
"Don't flatter me, Alpha. Even if I would have wanted to stay, I can't because I am supposed to attend the re-opening function of the pack's international school." He reminded me, and I nodded.
The school was set ablaze when our pack was attacked a month ago. Fortunately, no teacher or student was injured because they were on summer break. It was a devastating incident, but we managed to rebuild the school in record time. The re-opening function was crucial to showing our resilience and determination as a pack, and I understood why he had to prioritize it over staying with me for the meeting.
"Right. You can go." I waved my hand to dismiss him and walked to my office to pack the needed files for the meeting I was having next.
The meeting went smoothly, like the first one. The investor didn't give me a hard time like he normally does, and a few minutes later, I walked out of the board room with a satisfactory smile flashing across my lips. I had nothing left for the day, and that meant that I could finally retire to my office and relax for the rest of the afternoon.
While on my way to the office, I recalled that Beta Kelvin was there. I had no idea if he had already regained consciousness or not, so I hurried to check on him and keep him under interrogation.
He had yet to tell me the reason why he had come to my kingdom, and I was not going to let him slip away before confronting him.
I pushed the door open and stepped into my office, only to find him gone. “This son of a bitch escaped.“ I uttered it in disbelief.
My assistant, Mr. Simon, who was lagging behind me with files clutched in his hands, rushed in and gasped in shock. “Escaped? But he was..how?“ He asked, and I shrugged.
He hummed for a while, and then looking back at me, he mumbled, "I don't think he has escaped. He is somewhere around the pack picking fights."
“Why do you trust him so much? Are you influenced by Sony?" I turned to ask him, my hand folded across my chest.
“Nay, Alpha." He shook his head in response. "I trust him because he has proven his loyalty time and time again," he replied confidently. "Sony has nothing to do with it."
"Mmh." I hummed and paced around the office. "He has proven his loyalty time and time again. Why am I missing that? Would you mind giving me some examples of his loyalty?" I asked, raising an eyebrow in curiosity.
"Well," he shruggled, cleared his throat, and went to sit on the chair. "It's just like what Sony had tried telling you again and again, Alpha. If he were that bad, he would have never asked us to take that Maria girl with us. He said that with her, we can bring an end to Alpha Benna. What more do you need to trust him?“ He questioned.
I sighed, taking into consideration what he was trying to tell me. Don't get me wrong; it's not that I have never tried to believe and trust Beta Kelvin. I have always wanted, but considering what he has done to me in the past, it's hard for me to finally get to believe him.
“Alpha Maseno, you don't have to think much about it because, honestly, there is nothing to think about here. Can't you give him a chance?" Mr. Simon's voice jarred me from my thoughts. He looked me in the eye, waiting for my response.
I hesitated for a moment, weighing the pros and cons of giving Beta Kelvin another chance. Yes, I had once given him a chance; that was two years ago, but he ended up screwing it. Despite my reservations, I realized that Mr. Simon had a point—maybe it was time to put aside my past experiences and give him the benefit of the doubt, but still...
I let out a deep breath. “I don't know what to say, Mr. Simon. Sony has been talking me into accepting him as well, but what the both of you are forgetting is that two years ago, I gave him a chance, but what did he do? He screwed it up. Trusting him? I don't know, but I am sure that it will take a while." I told him the truth since I didn't want to give him false hopes that I would start trusting Beta Kelvin again.
He nodded in understanding and said, "It's okay, Alpha Maseno. Take your time. No rush.“ He rose from the chair and patted my back before leaving the room. "Just remember, Sony and I are here for you," he said reassuringly.
I nodded and followed him behind. “I'll go see if I can find him anywhere."
“Sure. You can start by asking the guards, because if he has run away, he must have surely walked through the gate, right?" He chuckled and shook his head in amusement. "But don't worry; I'm sure he's just taking some time to clear his head. The beating I heard you give him must have...anyways, he'll be back soon."
People bowed as I made my way to the gate. The guard on duty didn't expect to see me because he rose from his chair, shock evident on his face. He pulled a chair from his small office and ran his hands through it to clear the dust.
I raised my hand, motioning to him that I wouldn't be sitting, and he bowed, carrying the chair back to the office, and came to talk to me. “What brings you here, Alpha Maseno?" he asked, his voice filled with curiosity. I looked him in the eye, and he quickly tore his gaze from mine and bowed his head, his dark irises darting all over the place but not me.
“Can I have the guests register, please?" I requested politely, gesturing towards the register book on the reception desk. He nodded and hurriedly handed it to me, his hands trembling slightly.
"I want today's register." I said this after I realized he had given me the last week's.
“Sure.“ He nodded, apologizing for the mistake. He quickly retrieved the correct register and handed it to me, still avoiding eye contact. "Did someone whom you didn't want come in? I am sorry. If I had known, I would have...
I raised my hand to stop him. “No. I just want to make sure that this person left his signature. I have no problem with his coming to my kingdom.“ I raised my head and shot a reassuring smile at him.
His brows knitted in confusion obviously surprised my action. All the guards in my kingdom and other stuff have been working for me for almost six years now, but none of them have ever seen me smiling.
I have always had a poker face, making it difficult for them to know if I was sad, angry, happy, or name any emotion. My stoic demeanor has always been a way for me to maintain control and authority. However, in this particular moment, I wanted to assure him that there was no cause for concern. It was important for him to understand that this person's presence did not pose a threat to our kingdom, despite the need for his signature.
“Y-your smiled?“ He asked, making it look like it was taboo for me to smile.
“Yes.“ I burst into laughter, attracting the attention of the other guards in their posts and workers who were moving around. Some guests, who are always lined out waiting for their turn to come into my office and say whatever has brought them, also joined in on the shock because they all palmed their mouths, looking at me as if they were seeing another version of me.
I raised my hand to greet them, and they all stood, bowed slightly, and sat back on their chairs.
“Did anything good happen, Alpha?“ The guard asked, still looking at me in shock. I could see that he was trying so hard not to raise his hand and palm my forehead to see if I was sick or not.
“Yes. Something good happened two months ago. Anticipate seeing me like this from then on." I flashed a bunny smile at him and shook my head in amusement. I never knew smiling would make someone feel this good.
“This son of gun.“ I murmured the moment I lowed my gaze back in the register and went through the names. There was no name for when Beta Kelvin came in or walked out.
“Are you sure everyone who walked in signed their names?" I raised my head to ask the guard, who nodded in agreement.
“Did you perhaps go to the toilet and leave no one here?" I asked again.
The guard looked at me, still shaking his head in denial, and asked, “Has anything happened because I have been here since four in the morning? The only time I left here was like an hour and a half ago when we heard a roar from your office.“
“An hour and a half ago?“ I asked, and my brows creased in thought. That was exactly the same time when Beta Kelvin barged into my office. But how? If he heard me roaring, it was obvious that Beta Kelvin was already there, meaning that he had walked in a few minutes before he left the gate.
“Yes, alpha. An hour and a half ago. And even when I left, I didn't leave the gate open. I had it locked because I thought we were under some sort of attack.“ The explained.
“Okay. Can I see yesterday's register then?“ I asked while returning the other one to him. It was last night that I had a feeling that someone had intruded on my kingdom.
The new scent that lingered in the air for as long as I could remember, my wolf said, belonged to an enemy, but the question was, is Beta Kelvin my enemy? I couldn't help but ponder.
What confused me even more was the fact that how would he be my enemy if Sony thought of him as a good person? “There is definitely something off about that guy.“ I said to myself while perusing through the file, hoping to find his name written somewhere at the end or in the middle.
How do you think Beta Kelvin walked in? Let me know in the comment section.
