Alpha Maseno
Darkness had already fallen by the time I was waking out of my office. I mean, how quick the day passes when you are busy.
When I reached my room safely, the first thing I went through was my phone, which was always switched off when I was working on an important project.
Sure that there was no urgent email, phone call, or message that needed my attention, I left it on the bed and walked to the bathroom to take a warm bath.
I was still taking a bath when someone called from the door, saying that dinner was ready. “I'll be out in ten.“ I called back and concentrated on the warm droplets cascading down my body, washing away my fatigue.
With a white towel toying across my waist, I retreated back to the room, blowdried my hair, applied some scented lotion, and walked into the walk-in closest to grab something to wear.
A pair of white shorts and a black shirt were what I picked to finish the day with. I didn't forget to fold the previous suit I had taken off in the laundry basket and wait for the cleaner to come deal with it.
Never have I ever thought that I'd once be this clean and organized. Before Sony came into my life, all I could do was leave my office at midnight, walk back to my room, throw my clothes on the ground, and climb to bed empty-stomached.
I raised my head to look in the mirror. My reflection was smiling back at me, evident enough that just by thinking about Sony, a smile had already made its way across my face.
My phone buzzed, and I quickly rushed to it, hoping that Sony was calling me or had at least sent a message.
“I have arrived safely.“ The moment my eyes caught the message, my heart sank. It was Dr. Kedeva's message.
When will you call, or at least send me a message, Sony? I thought to myself and flopped myself on the bed. I turned to lay on my back and held my phone upwards as I swiped through the selfies I had taken with him.
I zoomed in on his pictures to kiss them and imagined what it would be like when I finally got to mark him. Yes, I haven't marked him yet.
I have always wanted, since the very day he confessed to being in love with me too, but he asked me to wait in case my grandfather would never approve our relationship.
Now that he had approved, I had yet to do it. Damn all this work we have to do every day! I cursed inwardly, knowing that they were the main reason why I and Sony don't spend time with each other anymore.
I even regret sending him to that seminar because only God knows when they'll be back. The worst thing was that the rules prohibited the use of phones unless it was something important.
Knowing that I was the one who had passed that rule, I felt like going outside, standing under the pouring rain, and punishing myself.
Or, much better, I wanted to go down into the dungeon and lock myself in there for a week or so without food or water.
When writing down that rule, I really didn't think much about it. Then, I had no lover, and I didn't get why Alpha's and Beta's would always be on the phone videocalling or messaging their mates.
I received a little backlash, and I was hated for that, but I cared less. “I should wipe out that rule," I said to myself, and I sat on the bed facing the door.
“But it takes five years for the rules to be rewritten again, and this is the third year since.“ My conscience reminded me.
“Screw your conscience. I am trying to make myself feel better.“ I yelled.
“Oh great. You are now arguing with your conscience.“ My wolf mocked at the back of my head. Rolling my eyes, I walked from the bed to the door, where I felt like I heard a faint knock.
A scared-looking boy, with dark brown hair and wearing the maid's uniform, with his head bowed on the ground, cleared his throat, and, in a voice barely above a whispher, said, "Ma'am Olivia said you should go and have your food before it gets cold.“
“Right, tell her I'll be there in ten.“ I responded and grabbed the edge of the door, ready to slam it shut.
“Well, she said that's what you said when she came to call you.“ He looked up at me.
I sighed and tilted my head at him. “I've heard. Tell her I am coming, okay?“
“No.“ He said in a high-pitched voice, and then, covering his mouth with his palms, he mumbled, “She said she'd call Beta Sony and tell him that you haven't been eating since he left for the seminar.“
I knitted the brows together. That's a lie. I wanted to scream out loud for her to hear downstairs. I have been eating since he was gone. Wait, where is she?“ I asked and brushed past the maid, closing the door behind me.
I found her standing in the kitchen with her back facing the door, and she washed something in the sink.
“Olivia, what's this I am hearing?“ I asked her. She remained silent at first, humming a soft melody while twisting her waist to the beats she made using a spoon and a knife. I ran my hands through my hair and asked again. "Olivia, what's this I am hearing?"
She turned to look at me, a smirk plastered across her face and wringling her brows in mischief. “I knew mentioning Sony would bring you here without your pants.“ She nodded in my lower region.
I looked at myself and gasped, looking around. The inside workers were standing in groups, snapping pictures, giggling, and whisphering, "Well, Olovia. Congratulations for making me embarrass myself.“ I said it sarcastically and rolled my eyes at her.
I thought I had grabbed a pair of shorts when I was done taking a shower. Oh shoot, when my phone buzzed, I walked to it, hoping it was Sony, leaving my shorts hanging in the closet.
It was a good thing that I had already put on my underwear, or else this would have been a terrible night.
“Since you are here, you better go to the dining table and have your meal, son.“ Olivia's voice jarred me from my half-conscious state of mind.
“Well, I am naked. I can't.“ I said this while trying to leave the kitchen.
“Not anymore.“ She said this without turning to look at me.
“What do you mean?“ I asked her.
“Because your pants are already here.“ She turned and nodded toward the door. And truly, the guy who had come to call me walked in with a pair of white shorts in his hands.
Rolling my eyes, I aggressively put on it, almost tripping on its edge, and walked to the dining table to have the meal. Kiara was there, but she didn't bother to raise her head and ask questions like she always does.
“She is still mad at you.“ My wolf whispered, and I hummed in agreement.
“Miss Olivia cooked all Sony's favorites since we are all missing him.“ She said it without raising her head.
I smiled and dug my fork into the steaming chicken. It was then that I decided to ask Kiara if she was still mad at me. “Kiara, are you perhaps still...
I didn't get to finish because my phone rang. It was a new number. Swiping across the screen, I pressed it against my ears. “Alpha Maseno speaking, can I help you?" I answered.
“What?“ I chocked on the chicken. Kiara quickly poured a glass of water and passed it to me, but I shook my head in denial. “It can't be true. You are kidding, right?“ I asked the person from the other end.
That was it. I don't know what happened, but the last thing I felt was my heart contracting in pain, my wolf groaning painfully at the back of my head, before my sight started to blur, forming so many stars and darkness overpowering me.
“Miss Olivia, something is happening to Maseno.“ I heard Kiara screaming from afar. “Should I call an ambulance?“
“There is no need,” I said to her in a weak voice. “If he isn't here anymore, why should I?“ I lost consciousness.
What do you think the phone call he received is about? Let me know in the comment section.
