Alpha Maseno
Shaking my head, I excused myself and walked back to my office to see if I could convince the foreign investors to agree to signing a deal with us. There was no way I would stay there and listen as two grownups argued like children.
The moment I entered my office, I gathered all the necessary documents and prepared a persuasive presentation to highlight the benefits of partnering with our company.
Before I could settle down and get back to business, the guard I was with inside the main house walked inside. He informed me that the argument between Maria and Dr. Kedeva had escalated, and the workers were now torn between two groups.
They were those who supported Maria, and others were on the side of Doctor Kedeva. According to the guard, Maria's group was almost winning.
"To hell with all of them." I thought to myself, not caring whether they would rip each other apart or not. "When they are done fighting, they'll all settle down and do something positive instead." I told my guard, who nodded in agreement.
“Aren't you going to find out what Kiara meant by telling Doctor Kedeva that he has been feeding Alpha Benna what has been going on in our kingdom?“ He sat on the chair across from mine and asked.
Here we go again. I sighed, closed my eyes, and massaged both sides of my head. And yes, we are now calling Maria Kiara since she has admitted to regaining her memories.
“I don't think there is anything to look about over there, Carlos. They just don't like each other, and that's why they were accusing each other like that.“ I responded, then raised my head to look at him.
My wolf stirred in displeasure. "You as well?" I mindlinked him, but he scoffed in return.
“I don't think so.“ Carlson shook his head in denial and proceeded to pour himself a glass of water. “I don't think this has to do with them not liking each other. There was some truth in what they were accusing each other of. If I were you, I would look into it before it gets too late.“
"Carlos, can we not talk about this, please? Let's concentrate on this deal rather than them, unless you want us to be divided as well." I responded. If we were to divide, then there was no secret that I would take Dr. Kedeva's side and he'd take Kiara's since he had made it clear when they were still in there.
"Wherever. And about this deal, I am not interested in it. Why would you need investors anyway when you yourself are an investor?" He asked, annoyance pressing in his voice. "I'll go join the fight because, just like Kiara, I don't trust Dr. Kedev at all. I have never, and I will never."
"Great. Screw even you, Carlos." I mindlinked with him. I sighed and shook my head when he walked out of the office without giving me a glance. I shiveled on my chair and grabbed a book to read, but I couldn't concentrate on it.
I thought about calling Sony but thought otherwise. He had yet to send me his program, so I don't know if he was in for a meeting or if he was out. “How I wish this seminar would end as soon as possible. I miss you, Sony.“ I kissed my phone screen since he was there as the screen saver.
If he were here, I am sure he would have settled the mess growing inside. Miss Olivia, whom I depended on to break that fight, had joined as well. I won't go crazy because of them. I thought to myself and stared at my computer's black screen.
The phone beside my table rang, and I quickly reached for it. No one called through it except when they wanted to talk about something regarding business.
“Alpha Maseno, speaking, can I help you?“ I said the norm and stayed silent to wait for the person to respond, but they never did. I felt a sense of unease as the silence on the other end of the line lingered.
It was unusual for someone to call and not say anything, especially through this particular phone. I began to wonder if it was a prank call or if something more sinister was at play.
“Hello, Alpha Maseno Spea..." I was repeating myself but was cut off.
“I know that it's Maseno speaking. Do you know what you have done will only strengthen the enemity between us?" the person said from the other end. I rolled my eyes even though that person couldn't see me and clicked angrily.
“Benna, next time you will want to talk about our enemity between us, it would be better you call through my personal number and not this.“ With displeasure pressing on my voice, I hung up.
I gritted my teeth in anger and switched on the computer. The screen flickered to life, and I placed my hands on the keyboard, ready to type my password and log in.
However, before I could do that, a buzz came from my phone, indicating a new call. Irritated, I picked it up and looked at the caller ID. It was Alpha Benna.
“What?“ I asked, pinching the bridge of my nose in frustration.
“Did you hear what I said?“ he asked impatiently.
I sighed heavily, trying to control my irritation, and replied, "No, I didn't catch that. Can you please repeat it?" I leaned on the chair and focused my attention on the phone call, temporarily forgetting about logging in.
I heard him sigh and then click angrily before repeating what he had earlier said: "Do you know what you have done will only strengthen the enemity between us?“
I chuckled. “Our enemity is as strong as it is. Nothing can strengthen it, Benna. Anything else you want to say?“ I asked while shiveling to face the table, and I flipped through the pages of the file on the table.
"I heard you are participating in the casino session happening next week." He asked, his voice laced with curiosity. "Is that true?"
I paused for a moment, considering whether or not to reveal my plans to him. Finally, I decided to play it coy and replied, "Well, you know how rumors can be. But let's just say I have a few tricks up my sleeve."
"Can you answer that? Will you participate or not?" He was obviously annoyed by my unclear response.
"You know, Benna, you really have the guts to call me and ask this question given that we are not friends?" I retorted, slightly amused by his audacity. "But to answer your question, I suppose you'll just have to wait and see."
What amused me more was the fact that no one knew about my participation in the casino aside from a few trusted people. Could it be that Kedeva is... "No, that can't happen." I said to myself, blocking away the what-ifs that were about to drown me.
Before Benna could respond, I hung up upon seeing Kiara standing at the door. “Come in.“ I responded, and she walked in, standing across from where I was. “You can sit, Kiara.“ I asked her, and I could see she reluctantly did so.
“I want to talk about Dr. Kedeva. He is not who you think he is. He is the one who killed your mother, and I am sure he is the one who told Benna about your participation in the casion session." She said it in one breath, and I was forced to knit my brows at her.
"So she was eavesdropping?" I asked myself and shook my head in disbelief. "How do you know all of this?" I questioned, my voice filled with a mix of anger and suspicion.
"I know it. He is Alpha Benna's spy." She responded. Well, I think she is here to cause another division. By the look of things, the fight going inside had ended, and she and her group hadn't gotten evidence against Dr. Kedeva being on Alpha Benna's side.
I sighed in relief.
"Why did you sigh in relief? Were you low-key suspecting him as well?" My conscience asked, or better yet, mocked, and it took me a lot of energy to stop myself from slamming my fists on the table.
Getting back my composure, I cleared my throat and said to Kiara, "I know that you and Doctor Kedeva don't like each other, but what you are accusing him of right now is an abomination. Do you know that my mother died of a disease that had nothing to do with him? And do you know that accusing someone falsely can bring you behind bars?“ I asked through gritted teeth.
“I am not accusing him,” she said, raising her head to look me in the eye. “I told you that I have regained my memories. He is the one who killed your mother, and he tells Alpha Benna everything that has been going on inside this pack. I am not lying.“ She said, but there was no way I was going to believe her.
Kedeva loved my mother as much as I did, and there was no way he would have laid his hands on her. And just like I had said, my mother died of an illness, so what she was saying at the moment was impossible.
“You don't believe me, right? Why don't you accept Beta Kelvin? I am sure he would tell you everything and maybe give you the evidence since he has it.“ She continued.
I slammed my hands on the table and stood. "Enough, Kiara. Don't think that because you are carrying my child, you can say anything you want about people I trust. Don't force me to regret keeping you here.“ I raised my finger at her and growled as a warning.
Her eyes widened in shock as she recoiled slightly, her voice trembling. "I didn't mean to offend you; I just thought you should know the truth. Please, just talk to Beta Kelvin; he'll tell you what I am saying is the truth. I used to see Dr. Kedeva over there when I was still in Alpha Benna's pack; it's just that I never knew he was your personal doctor." She pleaded, her tone filled with desperation.
"Get out, Kiara." I lifted my hand from the table and pointed at the door. "I don't want to hear any more of your excuses or explanations. Just leave." My voice was cold and firm, leaving no room for negotiation. Kiara's face fell, and she nodded silently before turning to leave the room, her shoulders slumping in defeat.
When she reached the door, she looked back at me, but before she could say anything, I barked, "Leave!"
She pressed her lips in displeasure and glared at me. If looking could kill, I would be dead by now. “I knew you'd never believe me, but wait until history repeats itself; you'll come to know that I never lie.“ She mumbled and wallked out of the office.
“What did you just say, Kiara?“ I called her back in question.
Over her shoulder, she responded sarcastically, “Your beloved trustee is coming."
The audacity she had! How dare she! She was getting brave, and I wouldn't hesitate to trim her growing horns.
“Maseno.“ A person called from the door. So the beloved trustee she was talking about was Dr. Kedeva. ''I am leaving for the medical camp. Take care," he said at the door.
“Take care as well, and let me know when you reach the camp safely.“ I told him before turning to face my computer and getting into business.
