Alpha Maseno
I walked into the kitchen and found Olivia hugging Maria. Without waiting for them to break the hug, I took the liberty to do that. I gently tapped Olivia on the shoulder, signaling for her to release Maria from the embrace.
Caught off guard, Miss Olivia spun, a cuss already escaping her lips. "What the fuck?"
Upon seeing it was me, she smiled sheepily at me and apologized. I could sense the embarrassment in her expression as she quickly realized her reaction. She explained that she was just caught up in the moment and didn't expect anyone else to be there.
My hand floated upward as a no-problem. I asked if she could excuse us, and she smiled, walking to the living room, where she directed the cleaners on where to clean and where not to.
“Are you okay, Maria?“ I turned to her. Although she was a few inches in front of me, her head was bowed to the ground, her hair covering both sides of her face, making it hard to see her.
A ghost. That's the expression I am sure she would give anyone if she were caught roaming around the dimly lit hallways at night.
I reached out and gently lifted her chin, wanting to see her expression. She slowly raised her head, revealing tear-filled eyes and a trembling smile. It was clear that she was struggling to hold back her emotions.
"Are you okay, Maria?" I asked again in case she hadn't heard me the first time I asked.
“I am.“ She said it under her breath. Her voice was barely audible, almost drowned out by the sound of her shaky breaths. It was evident that she was trying to put on a brave face, but her trembling lips betrayed her true feelings.
“It's okay if you want to cry, Maria. I have no problem with it." I reassured her, gently placing a hand on her shoulder. "Sometimes, letting it out can be a relief and help you feel better."
She shook her head in denial and forced a weak smile. "No, I don't want to cry," she whispered, her voice filled with determination. "I need to stay strong for our... I mean your baby."
I smiled at her. A genuine smile. "Okay, then, if you start feeling off, you can always tell doctor Maria because I am sure she would know what to do compared to us, okay?" I said, trying to ease her worries. "Remember, it's important to take care of yourself too, especially during this time."
She nodded in agreement, her eyes filled with gratitude. "Thank you," she whispered, her voice trembling slightly. "I'll make sure to prioritize my well-being for the sake of your baby."
I hummed in agreement and spun around to go out and see what my guards were up to.
I had asked them to increase the security and make sure that more security cameras were installed all over the house. What I didn't wish to experience was having other people attack my peaceful kingdom again.
“Alpha Maseno!“ Maria called me when I reached the door.
I turned and raised my brow at her curiously. "What is it, Maria?" I asked, my tone laced with a hint of concern.
Streching her hand, she pointed her index finger upstairs. "There is a guy over there. He is among those who held everyone hostage when I was hiding upstairs." She explained.
“Is he armed?“ I asked, pulling my pistol from my belt.
“Nay. I mean, he was, but not anymore. You can go check him out. He's passed out though and tied." She informed me, her voice filled with relief. I nodded, holstering my pistol.
I was relieved that the threat seemed to have been neutralized. "Alright, I'll go take a look," I said, cautiously making my way upstairs to assess the situation, but my personal guard, whom I didn't know when he had followed me inside, asked me to stay there as he would go and take a look at him.
A few minutes later, the guard came, his face pale, and said, "There is no one up there, Alpha Maseno. The rooms are, however, completely ransacked, and it looks like someone has been searching for something specific." He explained, showing the video he had recorded on his phone.
"What do you mean by he is not there? Maria said that he's injured and tied up. There is no way he can walk out of here all by himself.“ I told him.
“He is not there. I searched every room upstairs, but he was nowhere to be seen. I only saw Dr. Kedeva.“ The guard said
I knitted my brows together. Wasn't Dr. Kedeva not supposed to be here? I thought I had assigned him a task out of the pack. I quickly realized that something was not right.
If Dr. Kedeva was here, then who was supposed to be heading the tests carried out in the medical camp? I needed to find answers and figure out what was going on before it was too late.
As if he were reading my mind, the guard continued, "I asked him what he was doing here when he was not supposed to, and he said that he had forgotten an important file."
“Important file?“ I titled my head in question. “Before they left two weeks ago, I made sure that they had brought everything with them, so what's this important file he is talking about?"
Before the guard could answer, although I don't know if he would have an answer to that, doctor Kedeva himself, with light blue jeans, a white shirt, and white sneakers, appeared from the staircases, a blue file tucked under his arm.
“Alpha Maseno, Maria,” he said, nodding at both of us as a greeting.
I saw Maria scowling at his greeting; her face wriggled in disgust. Kedeva acted as if he hadn't seen that, though, and walked straight to me.
“What's this file I am hearing about? Didn't you and Doctor Maria take everything with you when leaving for the tests?“ I asked.
“Ah,” he scrached the back of his head and stole a glance at Maria, who had her arms crossed under her boobs and a stern expression on her face as if waiting to note out his lies.
He hesitated a moment before responding, “I had forgotten this. It is a file record.“ He waved the blue file he was carrying and then tucked it under his arm once again before my personal guard could snatch it away since he wanted to.
Weird. Why was he refusing it if it was a record file, like he had said? And why was he sending death glares to my guard, who didn't seem to want to stop trying to take it anytime soon? Before I could intervene in their chidish behavior, Maria beat me into it.
"Aha!" she exclaimed sarcastically, making me raise my brow at her reaction. My stern expression didn't waive her off at all. "It had been two weeks since you left for the tests, Kedeva. How come it's today that you realized that you didn't carry the file with you? I mean, weren't you supposed to record everything since day one?"
She made sense, though. I crossed my hands across my chest and turned to look at him.
He swalowed so loudly that all of us could hear it and then responded,” Maria has been doing the recordings. In her files.“
“Why don't you just say that you were here to help Alpha Benna free his headguard?“ Maria snarled, walking closer to him. I watched as Maria's anger grew, her eyes narrowing in on him. "You've been deceiving us this whole time, haven't you?" she accused, her voice dripping with disdain.
My brows knitted unconsciously as I stared at both of them.
“Stop sputtering nonsense, Kiara. What makes you think I would help Alpha Benna guard out?“ he flared back at Maria, his voice laced with frustration. "I've been working tirelessly to protect this pack, including you, from any threats. Don't jump to conclusions without knowing the full story."
"Full story, my ass!" Maria exclaimed, her anger boiling over. "I've seen the way you've been sneaking around, making secret phone calls, and disappearing at odd hours. Don't think I haven't noticed." Her eyes narrowed, challenging him to deny it.
Doctor Kedeva blinked rapidly, guilty consciousness washing over him. He rubbed his palms together nervously as he tried to form a coherent response.
What was he guilty about? There was no way he would help our enemies, would he?
"Nonsense Maria. Wait, you have been stalking me, haven't you? And between me and you, who seems like Alpha Benna's spy if not you? I mean, your sudden appearance in our peaceful kingdom says it all." He rolled his eyes; the guilty expression on his face was repulsed with mockery.
Well, these two have completely forgotten that I and my guard are still here. I stepped closer to them, wanting to stop them, but my guard pushed me backwards and motioned for me to stay silent.
Reluctance aside, I did step backwards.
“Oh, haven't you been doing that? Feeding him what had been going on in this pack. Just admit that it's you who have helped John escape. And who is the spy who is not? It's you freaking bastard, and if you really think you are not, give me that damn file and see if it's really a recording." She didn't back down either.
She laughed sarcastically when Kedeva held the file up in the air so that she couldn't reach it. "See, I said it. Liar, liar, pants on fire!" She accused him, "I am so sure the last call on your phone is his as well. You," she pulled my guard's hand, "snatch that phone away from him and let's see his contact logs and messages."
Kedeva shot a pleading look at me, wanting my help. My guard was already struggling to get the phone off his hand while Maria was busy pulling the file. Miss Olivia had reappered in the kitchen, asking what was going on.
Maria explained everything to her in one breath, and she joined the snatching and gripping game of tickling Kedeva so that he could let go of the file and phone.
Okay, this is it. I folded my hands and leaned against the wall, looking at them.
"Who is John?" My guard asked Maria when she kept on screaming, telling everyone who was walking in the kitehn that it was doctor Kedeva who helped John escape.
"Alpha Benna's headguard," she retorted, panting for breath. Kedeva was determined that he wasn't going to let any of them snatch his things away.
All these accusations they were throwing at each other—what are they talking about? Curiosity piqued, and I stepped in between them before they could start tearing each other apart.
I mean, I am Alpha, and I could see the wolves trying to break free, and given that Olivia and my guard had stepped aside to take a breath, I knew Maria and Kedeva wouldn't spare each other.
There was something about those two that I smelled. It's not only the two of them who depised each other, but their wolves couldn't stand each other either.
They both gasped when they saw that I was still there. Maria was the first one to step backwards and run upstairs, but I stopped her. “Can the both of you tell me what you are talking about? Maria, how did you know the guy's name was John?"
She remained silent. Losing patience, I went directly to the question, “Have you regained your memories, Maria?“ I asked. My guard and Olivia looked at her, hope brewing in their eyes. What were they happy about? Just Maria regaining her memories?
She looked in between me and Doctor Kedeva. After a short time, which seemed like forever, she nodded and said, ''Yes, Alpha. I regained my memories.“
“More than you never forgot them. Just playing a fool of us.“ Doctor Kedeva whispered to her, but I had already heard him.
