Miss Olivia
Panick wore me over. I bent quickly, took the phone from the ground, and pressed it against my ear. “Hello Kiara. Hello. Kiara, are you there?“ I asked, but only silence answered me.
“Hell has broken loose. Didn't you hear the beeping sounds before the phone slipped off your hands? She fucking hanged up on you. You sure are an irritating person.“ A voice mocked me from beside me.
With my eyes widening as if I were coming out of a horror movie, I turned to look at the voice. It was James's workmate. I looked at him for a second, trying to register what he had said. “So, Kiara hung up?“ I asked, but he scoffed instead.
I had no need to argue with him. Snapping back to my senses, I grabbed my purse from the table, flagged it under my arm, and dashed out of the small office.
I almost knocked over James at the door, who was coming in. “Are you okay, Miss Olivia?“ He asked, holding my hand and supporting my waist so that I wouldn't trip over the three stairs and bang my head on the storny wide way that led to the office.
“I doubt.“ I responded, finally standing on my legs. 'I'll tell you later, though. I need to go.“ I said this while bending to tie my shoelaces.
“I saw your calls. I am sorry, my battery died, but are you sure everything is okay?“ He asked again, searching my eyes.
Standing, I patted him on the back and said, “I'll call you James. Let me reach the hospital first."
“Hospital? Wait, Miss Olivia, are you okay?“ I heard him asking, but I had already run to the road, flagged down a cab, and hoped in.
"How I wish I had asked the driver to bring me here.“ I mumbed when we were stuck on the highway for the fifth time.
The cab driver looked at me through the rearview mirror and grinned. “I doubt if your driver would have flown above all these cars. I am sure he would have waited, just like me and all those behind and in front of us.“
“Oh, shut up, please!“ I snapped at him, “I wasn't talking to you, and I am sure my driver would, since he would have known what to do.“ I rolled my eyes and took my phone from the purse.
I dialed Kiara's number and tapped my finger on my knee, waiting for her to respond. “Answer the phone. Answer the phone, Kiara.“ I almost yelled.
“Miss Olivia,” her voice called from the other end. “Are you coming?"
“Yes, I am coming. Tell me, is everything okay? Please, let it not be what I am thinking.“ I said it in one breath. “Kiara, are you there? Are you listening to me, Kiara?“ I called when she remained silent.
I took the phone off my ears and looked at the screen. “Fucking. Great.“ I muttered angrily when I realized that she hadn't hanged up on me like I had thought, but my battery had died. “Did you really have to die at this time?“ I yelled at the phone, knocking it on the back with my fist.
The driver chuckled, getting my attention. “What?“ I asked, almost spitting out saliva. “What's so funny?“ I asked irritatably when he kept on laughing without saying a thing.
Seeing the glare I had on him, he cleared his throat and asked, “Is everything okay?“
“How can they be? Does anything seem like it's okay to you? Why don't you mind your business for a second?“ I yelled at him.
He raised his left hand in surrender, pressing his lips together.
He then tilted the rearview mirror to a position where he wouldn't see me and focused on the road ahead. "Good." I muttered and pointed my index finger at him to insist on what I was to say next: Now you stay in that position until I reach my destination.“ I ordered.
"Yes, ma'am," he responded and turned on the radio.
Thirty minutes later, I was already at the city hospital. I hurriedly got down from the cab, threw a dollar to him, and left even without waiting for a change.
Walking inside the hospital, I was surprised to not see Kiara and Carlos where I had left them.
I dashed to the doctor's office—glad he was there—and asked him where I would find Kiara and Carlos. “In which morgue will I find them?“ I asked since there were like six of them at the hospital.
The doctor knitted his brows and looked at me as if I had gone mad.
“Stop sweeping your gaze all over me and tell me which mortuary Alpha Maseno is laid at." I slammed my fists on the table, controlling the urge to grab the files arranged on his table and whack them on the floor.
“I think you are mistaken, ma'am.“ The doctor started explaining, but I cut him short.
“I am not fucking mistaken. I know for sure that it's you who were in charge of my Alpha and that he died in your hands. Now tell me right away where he is, or else I'll scream so loudly that you'll think I have grown crazy.“ I threatened him.
The doctor pushed his chair backward and stood. “I think you should calm down, ma'am," he said, stretching to grab the glassy jug across the table, pouring a glass of water, and handing it over to me.
As long as I wanted to throw it across his face, I forced myself to drink.
When I was done, and he was sure I had calmed down, he said softly, “Alpha Maseno is perfectly okay, ma'am. Whoever told you he was dead must have misinformed you. He is fine, okay, fine!" He stressed the last word.
I didn't wait for him to say another word. I dashed out of his office, bumping into a nurse who was coming my way, and ran to the room Alpha Maseno was kept in.
Truly, I found him sitting on a chair facing the weeping Kiara.
“Miss Olivia!“ Kiara rose from her chair and rushed to me when she felt my presence.
“Are these tears of joy?“ I asked while knitting my brows at the sad Maseno and Carlos. If he was perfectly fine, like the doctor had said, why was there a somber mood in there?
Could it be that what my wolf asked me is true? That Beta Sony has... ”No, no, no. I said, Quit thinking about that since it can't happen. You won't let it happen.“ My conscience interrupted my thoughts once again.
“Can you stop crying and tell me what is going on, please?“ I asked Kiara, who never stopped crying. “Carlos, Maseno, can someone tell me what the hell is going on?“ I yelled.
"Sony is dead.“ Kiara hiccuped.
I looked at her face and laughed. “Okay, you almost got me. Now, can you stop this nonsense and tell me what the doctor said about Maseno's sudden passing out?“ I asked while leading her to the couch, where I helped her sit comfortably.
“It was a panic attack.“ Carlos responded.
“P-panick attack? Does Alpha Maseno suffer from panic attacks as well? What triggered it?“ I asked in disbelief.
Carlos sighed before replying, "It's what Kiara has told you. Sony is dead. His private jet was blown today when he boarded it to come back home.“
I looked at Alpha Maseno, wanting to hear from his own mouth.
He nodded, a tear slipping out of his left eye, which he was quick to wipe.
“He's dead, Olivia. He is.“ He mumbled in a voice that the three of us could hear.
I ran to him and pulled him into a hug. "All will be well, my son, I promise," I whispered, rubbing his back gently. "Cry all you want, my son. When you are with me, you don't need to hide your pain."
Well, who is sad? Let me know in the comment section.
