Chapter 34 Chapter Thirty One
Chapter Thirty One.
'If only life was as easy as writing with a pencil and we could fix our mistakes with something as basic as an eraser'
*********************
Mayfair Estate,
Lagos.
Denola
For the first time since he'd known his mother, she wouldn't meet his eyes. He knew why, she was feeling ashamed.
She'd done some shameful things and she couldn't go back, he didn't know if he could ever forgive her.
He didn't know if he could forgive any of them. Amanda, Jade or his mother.
"The woman I married is Amanda Arinze, you're not her.....You're Hassana Abubarkar. Do you know what that means?" Denola asked looking at Amanda.
She looked at him apologetically. "Denola I'm sorry, please you have to understand...." she started but he cut her off.
"Do you know what that means?!" he yelled at her.
Amanda shook her head slowly. "It means our marriage is a lie. The name on those papers is Amanda Arinze but Amanda Arinze doesn't exist does she?" he asked.
Amanda closed her eyes and forced herself to hold back her tears. This was no time to cry, she had to win back her man and get him out of here before Kadin erupted.
"I may have lied to you Denola but my feelings weren't lies. Everything I feel for you is real" Amanda said trying to reach him but he wasn't giving her the opportunity.
"You used me, you used me Amanda because I'm an Idiot. You're no different from Teniola, you've been playing me from day one" Denola said.
Amanda shook her head "Please I didn't want to hurt you but I had no choice...." Amanda said defensively.
Denola scowled "You had a freaking choice Aman...Hassana or whoever the hell you are. You could have told me the truth before we got intimate, I would have helped you. You wouldn't even be here now. Instead you used me, you did a lot of things that I ignored because I thought I loved you but thank God for Jadesola and my mother. I can finally see who you really are, you're a selfish, deceitful liar. We're going to get Kamila and leave for Canada tomorrow, once we get you to safety and get troubled waters to lie still....we're going to get a divorce." Denola said.
The Dame expelled a breath, it would be the first divorce in the history of the Mayfairs but that was hardly a problem. The problem was Kamila, what was going to happen to Kamila after the divorce?
"Denola...I..." Amanda started again but Denola interrupted. "I'm done with you, I think you should go get Davina and Kamila. There won't be any need to unpack our bags, I'll make our flight arrangements this night. We leave early tomorrow" Denola said dismissively.
"What about Jemila, I can't leave without her" Amanda said despairingly.
Denola's face hardened "We'll discuss that later, Jemila is safe. Kamila will be our priority for now" Denola said and turned to his mother.
Amanda nodded and walked out of the living room.
"Are you satisfied now? I admit it now, I was wrong to have dated Teniola and even more wrong to have married Amanda. You win" Denola said defeated.
"Denola...." His mother began but she stopped short. What could she say?
"Ever since I was boy, I've always tried to please you. I did almost everything you wanted, everything to make you happy but marrying Amanda was the one thing I wanted to do...for myself....not to please anybody. Look how it turned out, because you didn't approve it" Denola said.
Atalia broke into a sob, turned away from her son and walked out of the room. Her husband turned to follow her but his mother held onto his arm.
"You're the head of this home Tade, when will you stop following Atalia and make your stand? You never caution her or talk to her, you let her walk all over you and get away with everything. First she got rid of Adeola and her sister, now she has ruined your son's marriage yet you're still following her. Don't be a fool for love Tade, be wise!" Dame Mayfair scolded.
Tade cleared his throat a little embarrassed "Denola, I apologize on your mother and sister's behalf. I hope that with time you can forgive them. If it's any consolation, I'll contact the police and double up our security detail. Anything to ensure your safety and that of my grand daughter. I didn't know any of this, if I had......this wouldn't have happened" His father said apologetically.
Denola nodded before switching his attention to Jadesola. "How long have you known about Amanda?" Denola asked.
Jadesola looked at her toes as she spoke, Denola could be a big softie but when he was furious.....he intimidated them all.
"After the first time you brought her home, I did some private investigation and found nothing about her. There were several Amanda Arinzes in Lagos but she.....she didn't exist, not as Amanda Arinze anyway. That got me curious so I decided to dig deeper" Jadesola responded.
"And Hakeem knew about this too? You, Hakeem and Mother said nothing....wow...what a world! She could have been an assassin, a spy, or whatever but you guys weren't going to say anything about it because you wanted to teach me a lesson. Congratulations, lesson learned" Denola said his voice dripped with sarcasm.
"Hakeem wanted to warn you but Mum threatened him. He knew nothing about our plans, though he had his suspicions. This was all me and mom" Jadesola said.
"I'm sorry...." she whispered her eyes filled with tears.
Denola nodded "Why are you sorry though? You should be happy. You've gotten just what you wanted. I hope you're happy but I also hope you never get to experience what I'm feeling. I would never betray you Jay, but I can't say the same for the people you surround yourself with" Denola said and walked out of the room.
Jadesola burst into tears, this was all her fault. She was so blinded by hate, jealousy and other vile emotions.
Now, she'd betrayed her brother.
Her body shook with sobs till she felt her grandmother's soothing touch.
"It's okay, it's okay. Now is not the time to cry, you need to help you brother. He needs you the most now" The Dame murmured soothingly.
She could only hope all would be well.

Amanda
The air was chilly when she stepped out of the house. She wrapped her arms around herself and sobbed.
Everything was ruined, she could blame Atalia and Jadesola all she wanted but this was her fault.
Her body shook with sobs and tears wouldn't stop irritating her eyes. She tried to control her emotions but she failed.
'Get it together Sans' she could almost hear Davina whispering to her.
Her eyes widened as she realized that she had asked Davina to wait outside with the baby but they were nowhere to be found.
"Oh my God, I have to find them and..." she was saying when a hand clamped over her mouth.
She struggled and tried to break free but another hand covered her nose with a handkerchief.
Her eyes widened as she realized what was happening. The handkerchief must be laced with some drug and soon she'd pass out.
She tried to scream but every sound she made sounded more like squeaks than screams.
"Shut up, If you make any more sound...you'll die" the voice threatened.
Her eyes dulled as she slipped in and out of consciousness.
Aliu....she recognized the voice. It was Kadin's minion.
He probably had Davina and her baby. It was over......
Kadin had won.
