Chapter 39 Chapter Thirty six
Chapter Thirty Six
'Some of us have swam in oceans, climbed mountains and scaled different situations for love. What have you done for love?'
****************
Mayfair Residence,
Lagos.
Denola
The women in the room stared at Denola liked he'd grown horns. "You mean everything that happened that entire night was staged?!" Davina exclaimed.
Denola shook his head "Most of it, not all" Denola responded.
"Is she really dead?" Davina asked holding her breath, she hoped it was all part of the prank. Everyone knew she was referring to Amanda. They all looked at Denola who had a stoic expression on his face.
"Denola sit down and talk to us this minute. Is Amanda dead or you all just played a dirty prank on us?" the Dame asked annoyed.
Denola met her eyes "I did what I had to do, Kadin is in jail now paying for his crimes and Amanda is safe. It had to be done!" Denola maintained.
Atalia placed a palm over her mouth in shock as realization set in. "Do you realize that if this gets out you could go to jail? You accused and put a man in jail for murder!" Atalia yelled upset.
Yes they were all relieved that Amanda was alive and safe but did Denola even understand the gravity of the game he'd played and was still playing?!
Denola sighed "Kadin is hardly innocent and he would have home to jail sooner than later. I don't regret what I did, I did it for my daughter's sake. Besides Amanda is currently in Canada, she won't be coming to Nigeria ever. She'll revert to her maiden name and there'll be no trace of Amanda Mayfair anymore" Denola said.
"It's not that simple Denola" Jadesola countered.
"What is done is done and I don't regret it. I called you all here to tell you that I'll be going to join Amanda in Canada. Kamila needs her mother and I won't deprive her of that" Denola said.
The dame nodded despite the fact that disappointment was etched on her face.
"I see you had this all planned out Denola, you did this to protect your wife and your daughter. Did you ever think of us while you were conjuring up this plan? We've been grieving in this house for days, your mother and sister almost died of guilt. Denola we had a funeral in this house and all along you were acting? What were you thinking Denola, what the hell were you thinking?!" The dame queried, she didn't need to shout for them to feel her anger.
"What should I have done grandma, what should I have done grandma? Hung around till kadin and his goons swooped in to destroy my family?" Denola looked at all of them.
"We are a family, we are the Mayfairs. The minute you found out about Amanda, you should have come clean to us, but you didn't do that. Oh no, you went ahead and hatched a plan with the rest of the world and none of us knew anything about it!" the Dame said upset.
"Who was I supposed to talk to, Jadesola and mum who knew about the plan from day one and went ahead to investigate my wife and tried to expose and get rid of her before consulting me? I didn't want to bother you grandma because you have enough on your plate already!" Denola said defensively.
"When have I ever told you that I didn't have anytime for you, when have I? I'm your number one supporter yet you couldn't come to me first!" the Dame said.
"It's over now grannie, it's over. I'm sorry I didn't confide in you but Hakeem and Aliu made it clear that I wasn't to tell anyone. Even you Davina, we were sure you'd tell Amanda and you two would flee again" Denola explained.
Jadesola looked at her mother and sighed. In a way he was right, they hadn't been fair to him so he couldn't possibly have confided in them when he learned the truth.
"We're really sorry Denola, we're sorry we betrayed you like that. I just want you to know, we're behind you always from now on. We're here to support you and we'll be here for you even if things go south" Atalia said devotedly.
Denola nodded and smiled at her and his sister. "Thank you very much for everything, for assisting me with Kamila too. I appreciate everything you all have done for me and I want to say that Mayfair will always be my home but this time I have to leave. You all are free to come and visit us once we've settled down over there" Denola said.
Atalia and Jadesola nodded and looked at the Dame for her approval but she still looked offended. "Denola I wish you the best in life, I cannot curse you, you're my son and my blood. You have my blessings" The Dame said half heartedly.
Denola went before her and prostrated, he only got up when she rubbed his head affectionately. He turned to Davina next with a small smile.
"I'm sorry I caused you grief. I'm really sorry Davina, you know I did what I had to do to protect your friend. I know Amanda will reach out to you the minute she gets the green light. If you want to come with me, I'll make arrangements and if you want to stay here, that's fine. What's mine is yours, you're more like a sister to me than a friend" Denola said.
Davina nodded with tears in her eyes. 'Thank you' she mouthed. "Take care of my girls for me and I want to hear from Amanda the minute you land" Davina instructed.
"You will, I promise. I'll be leaving tomorrow evening, all my flight arrangements has been made. I'll come back as soon as I can, I'm not abandoning my legacy. Maybe one day we can all get together again, God willing" Denola said.
They all murmured their agreement and warm regards for him. "So when are you going to tell Dad the truth?"Jadesola asked curiously as she wondered how her father would take the truth.
Denola smirked "Dad knew about this all along, he just played along" Denola responded.
"What?!" Everyone chorused shocked. "And he didn't tell mom?!"
"And he didn't tell me?!"
Jadesola and Atalia chorused in unison.
Denola chuckled at their surprise "There's something called the bro code, you all wouldn't know anything about that" Denola teased.
Atalia huffed causing the Dame to laugh aloud. "I think my son is finally becoming a man" she teased Atalia and winked at Denola.
Everyone laughed at her statement because they knew how she always scolded her son for telling his wife everything.
Denola looked about him and reveled in how lucky he was to have them. All was when now, or was it?
He still hadn't decided if he was leaving Amanda or not.
