Chapter 6
I heard my door crack open and knowing it was my mom I quickly hid the pregnancy test kit as I walked out to my room to see her with a pack of pizza, the aroma was calling. I couldn't just wait to grab a bite of it.
"Here is a pack of pizza for you" she said and kept it on my table
"Mom, this attitude of yours these few days doesn't make me believe you have changed, your recent kindness is becoming weird hence it isn't genuine" I said in a sigh as I lay on my bed facing the ceiling.
"Elizabeth, I don't know what is giving you the guts to talk to me in such a disrespectful manner, just don't forget that I am your mother no matter what!" She yelled as she slammed the door behind her.
She is the last person I will ever share my problems with. I am in a very horrible situation right now and I can't talk to my mom about it, isn't that insane.
I turned to the pizza on the table as I let out a deep sigh, gotta have a bite of that pizza I can't be angry with food too.
My night was full of thoughts it was hard to believe that my one time sex can put me in a family way so fast when Mel has been having sex for two years now without protection with her boyfriend and she still hasn't gotten pregnant.
Pregnancy for Edde isn't a good one because there is no way a playboy will accept a baby just yet, I don't just know how to present this but first I have to tell my mom about it.
She's my mom and I can't hide such news from her.
My phone buzzed as I picked it to see a message from Mel.
Hope you're fine Etta, have you used the test kit?
I kept my phone back on the table not wanting to reply to her without telling my mom first.
"Elizabeth, wake up, it's past ten already!" I heard my mom's voice from my sleep as I hurriedly woke up hearing the time she called "What's wrong with you! You never sleep this long!" My mom muttered as I ignored her hurrying to the bathroom.
I am so doomed! Mrs Barbara won't stop ranting about my lateness gosh! I brushed my teeth so fast that I was sure of getting injured. I took a quick bath and changed into a comfortable Polo and jean trousers as I took my phone and hurried out.
"You forgot your breakfast Elizabeth!" My mom called out but knowing the wrath of going late to work couldn't allow me to think of going back for breakfast.
I got in front of Barbara's Pizza palace as the billboard at the corner of the shop read, I said my little prayer as I always did before going in but this day's own was a special prayer.
I hurried inside just to see Mel serving the customers wearing my work attire, I was confused as I gave her that glare of "what are you doing here?" She ignored me as she focused on the customers.
"Oh Elizabeth, what are you doing here today? I Thought you already pleaded with your friend to work on your behalf today, well how is your health? she told me how down you were" Mrs Barbara asked with a missed expression as I cleared my throat knowing the game Mel was playing, she literally saved my ass!
"I think I'm getting better ma'am, thanks for your concern" I said calmly as she nodded and headed back behind the counter while Mel approached me.
"What Happened to your phone Etta, I called you throughout the morning but you didn't pick your call!? I was so worried about you and I felt like you won't have the strength to come to work today" she said in a slightly worried smile "So I decided to help save your ass!" She said pointing at the work outfit.
"They really look good on you Mel" I said covering my mouth as I giggled at her hard glare "Thanks so much Mel" I pulled her into a soothing hug, she's everything to me.
"Always at your beck and call bes, but wait… Why are you looking so horrible today! Black eye bags, fvcked up raggedy hair and no lip gloss to at least help!" She Muttered glaring at me in a fake frown.
"I was in a hurry, I was just scared of Mrs Barbara's harsh words" I said using my fingers to straighten my hair.
"You already know that you're late, so you would have taken your time to get dressed, no customer will want your service looking like this…" She paused, rolling her eyes heavenward " whatever, gotta attend to some customers" she said as she walked over to a customer at the extreme.
I feel so lucky having Mel around, I took out my phone to text her.
I'm going back home, you can call me if you need a company after work XO
I quickly hailed a cab back home, guess today is my lucky day! I wasn't done sleeping by the way, I still feel dizzy.
"Mom!" I called out as I walked into the sitting room just then she stepped out of the kitchen cleaning her hands with a towel "hmm, you haven't gone out since yesterday hope all is well?" I asked as I sat on the couch.
"Was that the reason for your call?"
"No No mom, come sit I have something to confess" I said, biting my gum as she sat beside me. I didn't Know how to start telling this funny story, my mom could possibly find me crazy.
"So…" She said clicking her fingers
"Uhm, I'm pregnant Mom" I said bluntly as she gave me a confused glare, yeah I expected that anyways.. suddenly she brushed into laughter.
"Is this some sorta joke or something? Because the last time I checked you never had any business with a guy" She pointed as I sighed rolling my eyes
"Mom, is this a serious issue and I am so confused?" I said as my eyes glittered in tears.
"Now it sounds serious! Who broke my baby's hymen! Is he special!?" She said pulling me to her aims which was the first time of me being so close to her in five years!
"No mom he is not special, it was a mistake, we both were drunk! I haven't even told him about it" I said as more tears streamed down my cheeks.
"Who is this guy? And how did you meet him?" Mum asked, pulling me off her hold as I wiped off my tears.
"It's Edde Loxley, I know that it might sound crazy but it was him?" I said as her mouth fell open in shock looking at me in amazement as she suddenly cleared her throat and sat upright.
"Do you mean Edde Loxley the CEO of Brigitte!?" She asked, still shocked with a mixed facial expression this time.
"Yes Mom! I'm so doomed. He is so irresponsible and as we all know, a playboy! He definitely will reject my baby"
"Hello Miss! Mr Reluc Loxley's son got you pregnant and you dare to waste these precious tears of yours!" Mom muttered as she wiped my tears off "You should be jumping up right now my love, you are literally the luckiest girl in town Elizabeth! I have never been so proud of you!" Wait, really? Mom is doing this again? Why can't she just be supportive and act responsible for once, I'm here complaining about a regretful mistake and here she is rejoicing!
"At least I get the chance to be close to Reluc Loxley, he isn't married anyways" she said as she clicked her tongue realizing the trash she was saying "Didn't mean that!" She said standing up headed back to the kitchen, of course she meant it. I know what Mrs Courtney Albie is capable of.
"Just get ready to deliver the news to him soon Elizabeth!" She called out from the kitchen as I sighed, rolling my eyes heavenward.
The day went on with my mom showering me with gifts like never before all because I got pregnant for a dumb celebrity she won't understand the trauma I'm going through.
My phone buzzed as I checked it to see a DUO video call from my bestie, knowing how deep our conversation might go I decided to go take the call in my room instead.
"Hey! How are you doing babydoll!" She said with a cocky smile plastered on her face as I sat on my bed.
"I am pregnant Mel" I said in a slight smile as her eyes shone in surprise.
"So it was really it all this while! How are you? I hope you ain't thinking too much… Have you told your mom?" She asked randomly, obviously worried about me.
"You won't believe that my mom was so happy about the pregnancy when she heard it's Edde's" I said, rolling my eyes heavenward as Mel brushed into laughter.
"I expected that! Your mom never ceases to amaze me!" She cracked almost choking in her laughter as I gave her a bad glare "I'm sorry, okay what do you plan next? Telling Edde or…"
"I'm never telling Edde it won't help" I thought in a sigh "maybe I will just terminate the pregnancy"
