Chapter 34
...Dickinson pov…
"You know Emile had an argument with her mom because of you and she left her house to stay with me before you took her."
"She did?"
"Yeah she was going out with a married man of course and her mom didn't approve of it. In a way her mom was actually right".
I was already nervous as I stood at the porch of Emile's mother's house with Erick, my fiancée, Emile's best friend. I knew that Emile's mother didn't approve of me and didn't trust me, especially after Emile had left with me.
I could remember the day Emile's mom invited me to dinner. Everything was going all fine until she saw my rings, she was disappointed and thought nothing of me.
But this time was different. I had removed the rings from my fingers since I issued the divorce papers even though they weren't signed. I didn't want to have anything to do with Emily, my selfish wife.
But now I haven't heard anything from Emile and we had come to her mother's house to try her or any information that could help us locate her.
As we waited at the front door, I could feel my heart racing. I knew that this was going to be a difficult conversation, but I was determined to do whatever it took to find Emile. Erick rang the doorbell again and we waited for a response.
After a few moments, the door opened and Emile's mother stood before us, her face etched with worry and concern. "What are you two doing here?" she asked, her voice cold and unfriendly.
"We're here to see Emile," I said, trying to keep my voice steady. "We were hoping to find her here."
Emile was a replica of her mom despite the age difference they could be taken for sisters.
The coloring was the same, bright blonde hair. While her mother wore hers short and sleek, Emile let her curl naturally with a frizz of bangs that seemed a tad too long. Emile had inherited her mother's complexion and smoky eyes but the difference was Emile's blue eye color, she had probably inherited them from her dad.
Emile's mother's expression turned gloomy, she looked at me then Erick.
"Is she here?" Erick asked, trying to peek in.
"No she isn't," Emile's mum said hurriedly as she tried to steady her breath.
"She isn't here? Then..." I stuttered in surprise.
"Where could she be?" Erick was now very much worried.
"Emile hasn't been speaking with me for over a month. I thought she was probably with you, her so-called best friend." Emile's mom glanced at Erick.
"Error… Can we sit inside and talk?" I couldn't be bothered about Emile's mother now because my head was preoccupied with so many possible scenarios.
she flinched slightly and stepped aside to let us in. "Come in," she said, her tone still guarded.
"We followed her into the living room, where she gestured for us to sit down. "Tell me what happened," she said, her voice now tinged with concern.
Erick and I shared with her what little information we had about Emile's disappearance. We told her that we had no idea where she could be, and that we were worried sick about her.
Emile's mother listened attentively, her expression growing increasingly worried as we spoke. "I don't know what to tell you," she said, shaking her head. "I haven't seen or heard from Emile in weeks. I have no idea where she could be."
I couldn't help but feel a sense of panic wash over me. I had been hoping that Emile's mother would have some sort of lead that could help us find her, but it seemed as though we were at a dead end.
"You traveled with her and she left at the airport?", Emile's mom asked.
"Yes she left on her own." I answered.
"Where did she say she was heading to?"
"She didn't tell me."
"Any ideas?" Erick chipped in.
"No."
What were you guys arguing about?
It's something new could resolve
Emile's mum suddenly stood up. If anything happens to my daughter I will kill you scoundrel". She bellowed and tears were hanging in the corner of her eyes.
"Calm down, " Erick said as he stood up getting between us. "Let's calmly discuss this."
There is no other person better to know the whereabouts of my daughter than him. She pointed at me, her voice shaky and the tears that welled up the corner of her eyes were already pouring.
"Why don't you let my daughter be? Why do you want to selfishly use her?" She wiped the tears away with a pink handkerchief. I think I have seen Emile with that same type of handkerchief.
"I love your daughter dearly and she loves me too, we…"
She suddenly interrupted me with a slap. "Say that again and you will regret it with all your money."
she bellowed as she pulled at my shirt. Erick stepped in between us as he held her from pouncing on me.
"You… I stuttered, I couldn't remember the last time I was slapped. 'How dare she...?'
Baffled as I was, I held my face and rubbed the spot where I felt the impact with anger written all over my face.
"
Let's discuss this matter amicably" Erick said as he led her to a chair. She was breathing heavily and her face was filled with anger and worry.
"I will go to the police, she made me stand up."
Wait ma'm we do not know if this is a case of kidnap so we have to take this with caution.
"Stop I don't want to think about that she", bellowed amidst heavy breath.
"Kidnap ?" I shivered who will kidnap Emile and for what reason?'
...Emile pov…
I struggled and fought, but it was no use. The hand that was holding me wasn't bulging at all and held me down. I was injected with something and everything went black.
When I came to my senses , I was in a dimly lit room, tied to a chair. My head was pounding and I felt groggy. I couldn't remember how I had gotten there or who had taken me.
Suddenly I heard footsteps and then a door opening. My heart pounded against my chest and I was alarmed.
"Welcome, Emile," a voice said from the shadows . "You're probably wondering why you're here."
I tried to speak, but my throat was dry and it came out as a croak. "Who are you? What do you want?" I screamed terrified
The voice chuckled. "All in due time. For now, know that you've been kidnapped and you'll be staying with us for a while."
Panic set in as I realized the gravity of the situation. My family and friends had no idea where I was, and I had no way of communicating with them.
The blindfold was taken from my head and I was relieved a bit.
The room was simply illuminated and I could see a young man in front of me, his face was half covered and I couldn't make out his features in the sim light that came in from little slits that served as window and the light that sneaked in from the door.
"Why are you doing this? I'll give you whatever you want, just please let me go."
The voice was silent for a moment before responding. "It's not that simple, Emile. You see, you have been targeted by a certain person and you will remain here until we know what to do with you."
I racked my brain, trying to think of what I could possibly have that would be worth kidnapping me for. But I couldn't think of anything. Do they need me for a ransom 9r what?
"I don't understand. I don't have any money or valuable possessions. What could you possibly want from me?"
The voice hesitated before answering. "It's not something you have, Emile. It's you."
My mind raced as I tried to figure out what they could be talking about. But before I could ask any more questions, the voice spoke again.
"We're going to be watching you closely, Emile. And if you try to escape or do anything funny that you could, he chuckled, you'll regret it. Do you understand?"
I nodded, my heart racing with fear.
The next few days were a blur of fear and confusion. I was kept in the small room, with only a cot to sleep on and a bucket to use as a toilet. I was given very little food and water, and I was constantly watched by my captors. Escape? My hands were tied and I was always being watched and the door was locked. I also had no idea where I was being held or how to get out of the building.
I tried to think of what would happen to me and my head was clouded with different scenarios. Thinking about all that has been going on there is only one possible reason that I will be kidnapped.
