Chapter 37 Mine vs Yours

Stefani looked at her right side. Then to her left. Then slowly, she took a long deep breath. Suddenly, the sound of the shower came to her ears and Stefani jumped. For the fifth time!

"Stefani, f-focus! Focus on your breathing!" Stefani told herself as she stood by the foot of the bed.

Jonathan's bed.

Again, the sound of the water from the bathroom made her jump. She could hear how loud her heart was making against her chest and Stefani felt like she would die if she could hear another sound of water near her.

After having a deep and serious talk with her father, Jonathan took Stefani with him to his apartment. Stefani wanted to argue then but her heart just won't listen to her mind at all. In the end, she stopped resisting and just willingly followed Jonathan.

When she agreed to be with Jonathan, she didn't mean it to be this way at all. Being with Jonathan and sleeping with Jonathan were exactly two different things! This was what Stefani believed. Actually, Stefani shouldn't feel bothered too much since they already slept on the same bed before when they were in Sunstone Mountain. But this was Stefani and Stefani had her own ways of thinking things. Unfortunately, choosing to panic was one of them.

"H-He, w-we-, there's no way, right? I mean, we're not even m-married yet," Stefani said to herself, laughing nervously at her own thoughts.

Sometimes, a human mind can be so complicated it would wander off to many places without confirming anything first.

Jonathan opened the door from the bathroom with a towel around his neck. Fortunately for Stefani's heart, Jonathan was already wearing a white shirt and black sweatpants then. Unfortunately, Jonathan's handsome features along with his wet hair managed to make Stefani's face instantly hot.

The older was drying his hair with a towel when he noticed a line of pillows were placed on his bed, specifically in the middle.

"What are you doing?" He asked the younger who was busily arranging the pillows.

Stefani tried to keep her eyes from staring at Jonathan and cleared her throat, "I-I'm making a line."

Jonathan raised an eyebrow, "Line for what?" He took steps forward until he reached the bed.

Stefani avoided eye contact and just pointed out the bed, "This part is mine and that part is yours. Y-You can't cross the line when w-we sleep or I'll kick your face!"

Jonathan, still having an eyebrow raised, thought of it then soon understood what the younger was trying to say. The thought made Jonathan chuckle, thinking how adorable Stefani was right now.

"Yah! Are you laughing? Do you think this is funny? Do I look funny to you?" Stefani angrily said while glaring at Jonathan.

"Nope," Jonathan replied as he casually grabbed his eyeglasses from the bedside table and put them on. "You're not funny, you're cute."

Stefani instantly blushed and looked away. Why is Jonathan suddenly saying such things? And why does Jonathan look so good with eyeglasses?!

"I'm going to do some work. You should take a shower and go to sleep," Jonathan suddenly said before going out of the bedroom, leaving Stefani behind.

….What was that?!

Stefani's mouth gaped as she watched the door slowly closed. She couldn't believe what just happened. Did that monkey really just- "Wow, so you're going to treat me like this huh?" Stefani said then began to punch the pillows on the bed.

"You!" Punch! "Stupid!" Punch! "Annoying!" Punch! "Monkey!" Punch punch punch! "You never changed at all!"

The teenager kept hitting the poor pillows before she ran out of breath and decided to do what Jonathan just told her to. When she was done in the shower, Jonathan wasn't still in the bedroom. Somehow, it made Stefani's heart... lonely.

Stefani glared and began shouting at the door, "Stupid monkey! Fine, do whatever you want!!" Stefani jumped to the bed and rolled on it while punching the air like a little hamster while screaming how she hated Jonathan again and again.

It wasn't until past midnight when Jonathan came back. When he did, he was surprised to see Stefani occupying the entire bed with her arms and legs sprawled out wide. It made Jonathan chuckle and shake his head.

Quiet and careful, Jonathan moved the younger to "her side" of the bed only to be held onto the arm and pulled down.

"Don't go..." Stefani mumbled with eyes closed. "Y..ou.. monkey.. can't leave.. mm, stay..."

Was she sleeptalking? Jonathan raised an eyebrow. He never heard Stefani talk in her sleep when they were in Sunstone Mountain. Jonathan took it that Stefani must have been exhausted today.

Jonathan brought his hand to Stefani's head, caressing the younger's hair while giving her a loving gaze.

"Good night, Stefani," Jonathan whispered to his beloved as he gently placed a kiss on Stefani's forehead.

Jonathan was about to go to "his side" of the bed but Stefani won't let him. Every time Jonathan tries not to cross the line Stefani made as the younger himself ordered, Jonathan was being pulled back by Stefani herself. In the end, Jonathan removed the line of pillows that separated him and Stefani.

Sighing for he knew the younger would surely throw a fit in the morning for what he did, Jonathan closed his eyes in defeat and just silently pulled the younger closer to his body and went to sleep.

"Ahhh! Your arms are even wrapped around me! Ahhh what should I do? Do you think this is something to be smiling about? This is crazy!..." Stefani glared at Jonathan, "You! This is all your fault!!" She then went back to messing and pulling her hair in frustration and embarrassment.

"Whoa, hold up. You're the one who clung to me all night," Jonathan replied with one eyebrow raised.

"T-That! W-Well... It's because I have n-no choice!" Stefani stuttered, eyes blinking fast as she avoided Jonathan's stare by turning around and pushing the white covers away from her body, her feet already on the floor, ready to leave.

Would Jonathan let that happen though?

The older caught the younger's arm before the little brat could escape again, turning her again so she would face him. Stefani's eyes were wide as they looked at Jonathan in surprise.

"W-What do you want? I have to go to school!" Stefani said snappily though couldn't hide the blush on her face. Jonathan was looking at her with serious eyes and it was only adding to the speed Stefani's little heart makes at the moment. Jonathan should stop gazing at her like that or Stefani would actually faint!

The older pulled the younger closer, the touch sending another set of butterflies down Stefani's stomach. Jonathan's hands cupped Stefani's face, not giving her a verbal answer as he leaned in and captured Stefani's waiting-to-be-kissed red lips, passionately claiming the younger's lips.

Stefani's eyes were still wide when Jonathan pulled away after a few seconds. It was like the younger one turned to a stone and Jonathan could only smile at the sight. Stefani was being too adorable despite her attitude and for Jonathan, this very image was what he had dreamt of ages ago.

It felt completely satisfying.

"That's how you thank your husband," Jonathan smiled widely - and teasingly - then turned soft as he ruffled Stefani's smooth hair and looked at her with eyes full of love and admiration.

"Go. I'll pick you up later," he added before kissing the younger's forehead for the last time then going back to the bed and pulling the covers up like nothing happened.

Stefani was still there sitting by the edge of the bed with her mouth left hanging open. She couldn't believe what just happened. What was that all about?!

But glancing at the digital clock on Jonathan's bedside table got her on her feet again, now panicking as she hurriedly headed out of Jonathan's room but before doing so, she threw a death glare at her future husband's already sleeping form.

She hasn't even brushed her teeth yet. That monkey and his hormones, really!

Really, really.

A smile could not help but form on Stefani's face as she threw one more look at Jonathan on the bed.

Stefani hates him after all.
