Chapter 38 For Me vs For You
Apparently, Stefani's school festival was extended for another week. Thus, the reason why Stefani was quick to leave Jonathan's apartment today and asked Pacholo to drive her off to school. She personally did this as she knew Jonathan was too tired since he had some work to do the entire night before he slept next to Stefani.
Because Jonathan was supposed to leave the country, Mr. Hernandez advised him to have some work-related things done at home instead and that he just needed to go to Japan if they needed further people to fix things there.
Actually, this was just Mr. Hernandez's way of saying Jonathan should focus on Stefani first. And by saying focus, Jonathan must also attend Stefani's school festival events.
"Stefani's it's your group's turn next," the student council president said.
Right now, Stefani was behind the stage along with her teammates. They were going to perform a dance performance for the school festival.
"Stefani, look here!" Christina said and clicked the camera the moment Stefani turned.
Stefani rolled her eyes, "Can you please stop?" Her friends have been taking pictures of her since she arrived at the school and Stefani was becoming impatient as hell. She really wanted to remove her costumeーwhich looked like a kpop group emo, gangster costumeーnow and just go home.
"But Gonzalez would love all these pics!" Christina said with a pout.
"That's right! Look at all these close-up pictures. Stef is so cool and wild here!" Bridget giggled while swiping the pictures from her phone.
"Let's sell them to Gonzalez later!" Ivy suggested to which Bridget agreed immediately.
Just then, Dianne came with a worried expression. "Guysss~ we have a problem! What should we dooo~"
"What happened?" Stefani asked with a frown, ignoring her friends’ weird hobbies of collecting pictures of whoever they set a target to.
"Our class representative for the singing contest has diarrhea, she can't come today!" Dianne cried out.
"Oh my god, our class will be labeled as a stinky party pooper for the rest of the school year!!!!" Christina cried like a dying animal along with Bridget and Ivy.
Stefani shook her head. The host of the event called Stefani's group and so Stefani didn't really have the choice but to go to the stage. She would help solve their problem later when they were done with the dance.
While on stage, Stefani thought of the many things that happened to her. It felt as if a decade passed when she thought of them. It seemed when she did things with Jonathan, time would just pass by quicker than usual. Jonathan... Jonathan… Why was she thinking of that guy right now of all people?!
Just then, Stefani glanced at the audience and her jaw almost dropped the moment she saw him.
'What is he doing here?!' Stefani asked inside her head. Just when she was just thinking about that person, that person would appear all of a sudden!
Jonathan had a poker face as usual as he watched Stefani dance on the stage. Beside him were Rose, Pacholo, and Mr. Hernandez, who by the way, was smiling from ear to ear while watching his precious daughter perform on stage.
The dance performance ended with the audience clapping their hands for Stefani's group.
"We don't have enough time. You do it, Stefani," Dianne said the moment Stefani came backstage.
Stefani frowned, "What? Why me?!"
"Come on, the emcee is gonna call our class in less than five minutes!" Bridget panicked while biting her nails, a first time in years. She clearly did not want to be called stinky.
Stefani looked around then sighed in defeat. "Fine fine. Which song is it again?"
The four girls' eyes twinkled, "Stefie~ you're really an angel! We love you!"
"Stop saying such cringy words and just give me the lyrics!" Grumpy Stefani exclaimed while pushing the girls away from her.
The girls giggled as they gave knowing glances to each other and grinned. "It's okay, it's okay, it's a song you've known by heart so you'll do fine."
Stefani frowned as she watched her friends' faces become like those of a mental hospital escape. Sometimes she wondered how she became friends with weird people. Sighing, Stefani proceeded to the stage when the host called for their class.
Stefani stood in the middle of the stage with a microphone in front of her. Soon, the music started and Stefani's heartbeat stopped. She swallowed down hard and began to sing. As it turned out, it was the song 7 things by Miley Cyrus.
I probably shouldn't say this
But at times I get so scared
When I think about the previous
Relationship we've shared
It was awesome but we lost it
It's not possible for me not to care
And now we're standing in the rain
But nothing's ever gonna change until you hear, my dear
The 7 things I hate about you
The 7 things I hate about you (oh you)
You're vain, your games, you're insecure
You love me, you like her
You make me laugh, you make me cry
I don't know which side to buy
Your friends they're jerks
When you act like them, just know it hurts
I wanna be with the one I know
And the 7th thing I hate the most that you do
You make me love you
