Chapter 10: Arguments
~ Cameron/Constantine ~
Victoria lifted her head to meet my eyes. Her eyes were wet with tears, and her lips quivered. I kissed her eyelids and embraced her fragile body.
“Don’t cry, my darling. I can’t promise you anything, but I’ll treat you right.” I kissed her hair. “Now, get rest. I must meet my father to discuss what we should do with the Hurricane Dawn Pack.”
Victoria nodded. Then I wiped her tears one more time. She looked gorgeous though crying. I could understand why I loved her in the past life. Our lovemaking was great. She was warm and understanding, but I think there was more about her. I needed to find out what made me fall for her.
“If you want to take a bath first, go ahead. At dawn, I have done it.” I kissed her lips. “I’ll meet you at your place later.”
Victoria opened her mouth, but then she closed it again. “Okay, I’ll wait for you.”
So, I dressed, and Victoria observed me as I put on my clothes. As her face was cheerful, it made my heart leap with joy. “Like what you see, madam?” I teased her.
“Sure. You have an amazing body.”
I grinned, as she knew well how to stroke my ego. “This amazing body is yours. Don’t forget tonight.”
I walked to the door but turned my body once more. Victoria’s naked body was a huge temptation, but if I returned to kiss her, I doubted I would leave my room soon. So, forcing myself, I left my house and headed to my father’s house..
After knocking on his door, there was no voice from inside. That was when Evelyn Pane, his maid, passed by. She was older than me, and I was curious when I knew she had never had a mate before.
“Beta Cameron, are you looking for your father?”
“Yes, Evelyn. Where is he?”
“He is in the Great Assembly room.”
I nodded and walked there. The Great Assembly was a large room fit for the meeting. Usually, my father would gather with the Elders of our pack there. I guessed they were there to discuss what they would do regarding Lisa and me.
I knocked on the door. Then Upsilon Michael Wolfie, the spy of our pack, opened the door. Once he saw me, he bowed. “You came on time, Beta Cameron.”
“What are they discussing?”
“About you, and Delta Lisa,” he shrugged and added, “and the Omega.”
“The Omega has a name. Her name is Anna Warren.”
He bowed his head. “Yes, Omega Anna.”
I ignored Michael and stepped inside. The noisy discussion died suddenly when they saw me.
“Well, who’s here? Just on time. We’re discussing what we should do with the incident,” an Elder said.
“Incident?” I raised my eyebrows. “There was no such thing.”
Michael brought a chair and placed it in the big circle for me. I nodded at him and took a seat. “Omega Anna is my mistress, and I won’t let her go. She’s mine.”
“Beta Cameron, why didn’t you say anything before?” My father asked. “If you didn’t want the union, I wouldn’t force you either.” We maintained the formality when we were in important meetings with others though we were father and son.
“Alpha Horace, since the peace treaty is important for us, I want to do something for our pack. So, it’s not a big deal for me to have Delta Lisa as my mate. But I won’t let go of my mistress.” I looked around solemnly. “She may already carry my pup now. So, I can’t let her go.”
The Elders suddenly talked simultaneously. It was hard to hear who and what they were talking about. Finally, my father raised his hand. “Please, one by one.”
An Elder raised from his seat. “Alpha Horace, Beta Cameron, we agreed on a peace treaty with the Hurricane Dawn Pack. We even already conducted the marking ceremony.”
“Almost,” I interrupted the Elder.
The Elder coughed and let out a dramatic sigh. “Yes, almost. But the point is, we must honor our agreement.”
“I agree,” I said. Suddenly, the situation wasn’t so tense anymore. Maybe because the Elders realized I wasn’t against them. We were on the same side: to bring the goodness for our pack.
“But you said you didn’t want to let go of your mistress,” the Elder said again.
“True.” I gazed at the Elder. “Let me ask you. What would you do if you were in my position and asked to give up your woman, who might carry your pup, your successor?”
The Elder blinked. “Well, it’s a rhetorical question, since I’m not in your position.”
“True, but what if you experienced such a thing?” Then, realizing chosen the wrong tactic, I remembered something. So, I smirked. “I think I remember your daughter-in-law’s due to give birth is approaching, isn’t it?”
The Elder frowned. He might be confused by a sudden change of discussion. “Yes, but—”
“Then what if I asked your son to give up your daughter-in-law and the unborn pup? What do you say?”
The Elder gasped, shook his head, and muttered something. He glanced at my father. “It’s a different situation altogether. Alpha, what do you think?”
My father, following what happened and said nothing, only smiled. “Well, since my son wants to continue the peace treaty and mates with Delta Lisa, I see nothing wrong with him nurturing his mistress.”
The first Elder sat with a dejected look on his face. Then another Elder stood. “May I say something, Alpha, Beta, and honorable Elders?”
“Sure, Elder Tom. What do you have in mind?” my father asked.
Elder Tom smiled as if reassuring me that everything would be alright. Then he glanced back at my father. “Alpha Horace, the marking ceremony between our Beta and Delta Lisa is a political ceremony. There’s no love between them. So, as Beta Cameron has already sacrificed himself, let’s not deepen his burden.”
“Thank you, Elder Tom.” I nodded at Elder Tom.
“Besides, if I were you, Alpha, I would be joyful to know I would have a grandpup soon. It would be cruel to separate an unborn pup from its father.”
My father looked around. “What do you think, Elders?” He waited for a while, but no one said anything to contradict what Elder Tom said. “Then it’s settled. We will reschedule the marking ceremony soon. The meeting is dismissed. Thank you!”
