Chapter 14: More Like a Brother
“Anna Warren? She is an Omega in our pack.” I was quiet for a while, considering if I should share about my past life.
“I know her, but I have never seen you near her.” Nate frowned for a few seconds. “Wait a minute! Yes, I have seen you observing her. You like her, don’t you?”
I didn’t know what I should say since there was an unexplainable tug in my heart whenever I saw Anna/Victoria, even before I knew our past lives. She was pretty, and her body was curvy, fit for me, but there was something else. Maybe it was our soul bond from the past life.
“Well?” Nate asked since I didn’t reply right away.
“She is pretty, and no werewolves will deny how sexy she is. But I have a bond with her, which is hard to explain.”
“Mate bond?”
I wanted to deny it since I didn’t know for sure about that, but considering we had marked each other in the past life, I finally nodded. “Yes.”
“Then why didn’t you approach her? We all were shocked when she stood and asked to stop the marking ceremony.” Nate shook his head. “I thought Lisa wanted to pry Anna’s eyes when she saw Anna stop the ceremony.”
I grinned. Victoria was more than Lisa in all aspects: appearance and character. So, Lisa might be envious of Anna. Also, it was a political marriage. What could we expect from a marriage of convenience?
“You know, I’m worried about you,” Nate said. “Your mind seems full of Anna. You lose focus.”
“I can’t help it. Anna is amazing.”
“Why? Just a pretty face and great body can capture your heart and soul so easily?”
“No, you don’t understand. But there’s more than that, much more than that.”
“Tell me. Since I need to let go of my bachelorhood for someone I don’t know, whom I may dislike too.” Nate shrugged. “I think I have a right to know about Anna.”
“If I told you the truth, you might think I had lost my mind.”
“I have already thought that. You aren’t like yourself. I wonder if Anna uses magic to bind your mind and soul.”
“Watch your mouth! Anna is the most beautiful soul I’ve ever met.”
Nate shook his head and let out a sigh. “You’re defending her because I said a little thing. Next, you may toss our twenty years of friendship to the fire.”
“No, no, you got me wrong, Nate.” I crossed my arms over my chest. “I’ll tell you my reason, but you should keep an open mind about it.”
“Okay.”
I let out a heavy sigh, then stared at the wall. “Anna or Victoria is someone I knew in the past.” I gazed at Nate. “Not only in the past but in the past life. She was my mate.”
“Whoa! How did you know about it?”
“I got a few visions from time to time about my past life. So, if you see me getting a severe headache, it was caused by the visions. Each time they appeared in my mind, my head hurts.”
“When Anna stopped the marking ceremony, why did you call her your mistress?”
“I don’t know. It was a spontaneous act since I felt I needed to protect her. But how would I know she was my mistress in the past? She had been pregnant with my child but lost it the day she died.” I closed my eyes. It hurt me to imagine that we lost our baby on the same day as our deaths. “Funny that both of us died on the same day.”
Nate cleared his throat. “Sorry to hear that. So, what’s your plan now?”
“After you and Lisa mark each other, I will mark Anna too. I want her to be my mate officially.”
“Are you sure? I mean, about the past life and everything?” Nate gazed at me for a while.
“Yes, why did you ask?”
“It’s too bizarre. Because I heard the witch can do the confusing effect like what you experience.”
I shook my head. “No, I started experiencing headaches and seeing the visions even before I met Anna. So, I’m sure she did nothing about it.”
Nate rubbed his chin. “How and when will you tell Lisa about the change of plan?”
“Soon. I’ll visit Lisa in her pack, I guess. Why?”
“Can I ask for more time so I can approach her personally?” Nate’s face was slightly red.
“Hm? What for?”
“I know it’s only a political marriage, but I have seen how happy my parents’ marriage was. So, I want to make it a success, even if it’s started as a marriage of convenience.”
“Sure! Whatever you want, consider it’s done!” I grinned. “I need to go back to meet my father to tell him about this. Thanks for agreeing to help me.” I stood and walked to the door.
Nate followed me to the door. Before opening the door for me, he smiled a little. “Even if you asked me to die for you, I would do it. I wouldn’t stay alive if you didn’t save me twenty years ago.”
“Hey, don’t mention it. I guess we are destined to be best friends forever.” Then I shook my head. “No, you are more like a brother to me than a friend.”
“I’m honored to do something for you and the pack.” Then Nate opened the door for me.
“If you need anything, just tell me. I’ll give it to you.” I knew Nate wouldn’t ask money or gold because he wasn’t a materialistic guy, but I owed him a big time. So, offering him something might be the right thing to do.
“Sure. Thanks for the offer.”
Afterward, I walked back to my father’s house. My father shook his head after I told him about the current plan.
“I don’t think it’ll work,” he said.
“Why not?”
“Nate isn’t our family.”
I wrinkled my forehead. “But he is like a brother to me, Father. So, if the Shadows reject him for that reason, I have a solution.”
“What is it?”
“We can have a ceremony to make Nate my brother. So, he will be our family after that.”
My father said nothing for a while. Then, when I thought he would reject it again, my father nodded. “Okay, prepare for it tonight. If Nate has been our family, it’ll be easier for us to talk with the Shadows again. I’ll be in charge of leading the ceremony.”
