Chapter 39: The Confrontation

After Nate left, I gazed at Cameron. “What happened?”

Cameron told me everything, and I could only clench my hands together. My chest was heavy. How could I lose Cameron again?

He held my hand and kissed it. “Don’t worry. Everything will be okay.”

“How?” I wanted to weep because even after a lifetime, the second time might not be enough for us to be together.

“Even if I am pushed to the corner, I won’t mate with Lisa.” He shrugged. “I may have to mark her and have her as my mate, but it’s only in the name. I won’t touch her.”

“Are you sure? She is pretty too.”

“Anna, can you trust me?”

Bending my head so I didn’t need to look into his eyes, I could only whisper, “I don’t know.”

Yet he lifted me and brought me to the couch. He sat me on his lap and held my face with both hands. “Look at me.”

I had no choice other than to stare at him. My hand trembled, but I wanted to touch his handsome face. I shed tears instantly.

“Oh, my darling. Don’t cry.” He pulled me into his embrace.

“How can I bear it, as I will lose you again?” I blurted it out. “I can’t stand it anymore, as I have already spent a lifetime in misery because of losing you. Now, I must lose you again ….”

Cameron kissed me deeply and tenderly. I clung to his neck as if it were the lifeline. I was afraid if I let it go, I would lose him.

“Not all of my memories have returned, but I promise you, I feel something for you. Anna, I don’t want to hurt you. However, as the Alpha’s son, I have an obligation to him and my pack. I hope you will understand.”

“Can I be selfish? Can I have you for myself? I don’t want to share you with others, not Lisa, not anyone. I want you only for myself.”

“I’m all yours, my darling.”

“B-but—”

He placed a finger on my lips, stopping me from saying my protest. “You will be the only one who owns my heart. Can you believe that?”

I stared at him. But my eyes were blurry because of tears. I bit my lower lip and sobbed. “I wish I could believe you. But it hurts me to think Lisa will be your mate ….”

“She will have my name and the title of Luna. But you will have my body, heart, and soul.”

Cameron kissed my eyelids, wiping away my tears. He brought me to the bedroom. Then he kissed my lips, helping me to forget anything but him and me. We made love until I finally fell asleep.

I hugged Anna and let out a sigh. I wished I didn’t need to go through the marking ceremony with Lisa because down in my heart, I knew Anna was my mate deep, not Lisa, not anyone else. My headache was lessened, but sometimes the memory of my past life haunted me, as it came without warning.

I put the blanket around my beautiful mate. Then I touched her flat stomach. Maybe our pup was already here. Considering we mated frequently lately. I wonder if it would be a good excuse to make Lisa detest me. Surely, she would prefer Nate over me. I could never love her, nor would I touch her. She belonged to my brother.

I bathed and prepared myself for Alpha Fred’s visit. I suspected he would come today. But then, I might be wrong. Who knew if Lisa could change his mind?

But then, I didn’t need to wait for a long time. My father summoned me. ‘Alpha Fred came to our pack with Lisa. Come here alone.’

‘Yes, Father.’

I walked to my father’s house. Evelyn opened the door immediately. It was clear she was waiting for me.

“They are in your father’s working room.”

I nodded. “Thanks, Eve.”

When I entered my father’s working room, Lisa didn’t look at me, but Alpha Fred nodded. “Cameron, it’s good to see you.”

“Alpha Fred,” I greeted him.

“I think you two must know why my daughter and I came here. Your proposition to change the mating partner didn’t work. Nathanael took advantage of my daughter’s weakness and tarnished her reputation,” Alpha Fred said.

“Father, Nate did nothing to ruin my reputation. He’s a good man!” Lisa protested.

“Ungrateful daughter! Can you see what I do? I’m trying to save you!”

Lisa shook her head. “You only think of what’s best for yourself, never for mine.”

“You!”

Alpha Fred wanted to slap Lisa, but I caught his hand. “Don’t do that! If you hurt her, I won’t take her as my mate,” I warned him.

“So, have you considered this situation?” he asked.

I nodded. “I do. No matter how I think about the situation, I still think Lisa must have Nate. They love each other.”

“It’s true!” Lisa shouted. “It’s true! I love Nate. He’s the only man I want!”

“Shut up!” Alpha Fred yelled. “I don’t care what you said. You will choose Cameron as your mate.”

“I won’t! Father, I may have carried Nate’s pup here.” Lisa touched her stomach.

“You!”

My father only listened. Then he raised his hand. “Please, we can’t solve everything with the hot heads.”

“Alpha Horace, what do you think?” Alpha Fred asked. “You are a father too. I think you can understand my problem.”

My father nodded. “I do. Cameron and Nate are my sons. Though Nate is my foster son, I love him and want the best for him. Considering Lisa may have his pup right now, don’t you think it’s better to let them have the marking ceremony soon?”

“I won’t let them!” Alpha Fred hit the table.

“Why?” my father calmly asked. “I assure you, Nathanael will be an Alpha soon. We will invade a pack, and I told him we will appoint him as the new Alpha there.”

“But Cameron will be the Alpha of the Wild Wolves Pack, won’t he?” Alpha Fred asked.

My father touched his chin. “True. But I don’t see the point in your question.”

“We agreed to match Lisa and Cameron. I agreed to that because I knew Cameron would be your successor. As your son humiliated me, Lisa, and our pack before your pack, you owe us to fulfill your promise.”
