Chapter 52: A Threat

My father asked me to meet him. I wondered what he wanted from me, as I had agreed to have the marking ceremony with Lisa in three days. He didn’t glance at me when I entered his office.

"Father, what do you want to discuss with me?"

"Sit down first." My father stood and walked to the window. He stared through the window for a while. Then he walked over and sat next to me. "There’s something I want to let you know." But then he said nothing.

"Yes, what is it, Father?"

"It’s about your mistress."

"Will you let her go? I will have the marking ceremony with Lisa in three days. So, I hope it’s enough to satisfy you."

"Not so fast. I can’t let her go, at least not until you have been Lisa’s mate officially."

I let out a breath. "You said you wanted to talk with me about Anna. Is she okay?"

"She is okay. But I have something you need to think about." My father said nothing for a while. Then, when he finally stared at me, he said, "Anna is pregnant."

"Oh! It’s great news! Can I meet her, Father? It’s your grandpup. I’m sure of that."

"I have no doubt either."

"Yes, she is a good woman. I’m so excited to be a father!"

"Cameron, listen to me first. It’s not easy for me to come to this idea, but I think it’s the best for all."

Dread filled my mind. "What do you have in mind?"

"I talked to Anna. Since you will have Lisa as your mate, it will be pointless for you to have Anna too. It will complicate your relationship with Lisa."

I shook my head. "No, Father. It’s only a political marriage. Lisa is Nate’s. I can’t ever love her as my mate."

"Cameron, listen to me first. I offered Anna gold and jewelry so she could hand over the pup after giving birth. She can live elsewhere and start a new life. She is still young and beautiful. Many men will gladly take her as their mate. So, I think it’s a good solution for all."

"No! She’s mine! How can you suggest that?! Imagine if Grandpa asked Mom to give me up for gold and jewelry?" I was too frustrated to talk more with my father. So I stood and walked to the door.

"Sit down! I haven’t finished talking!"

"You are too much! How can you do this to me? To my mate and my pup? Your grandpup? You can’t answer my question because you know deep down in your heart it’s wrong to separate a pup from their mother."

"It’s irrelevant, since your late mother wasn’t with us anymore. Even if she were still with us, I couldn’t answer because our situation wasn’t the same. She is my intended mate, while Anna is not your intended one. It’s Lisa."

"But you loved Mom, and I love Anna. I will never love Lisa."

"Will you prefer her death?"

I gasped, as it was unthinkable. "Have you planned to kill my mate? Have you?!"

"If I have no other option, maybe getting rid of her is the best way."

"If you do that, I will leave the pack forever."

"You won’t dare to do that. Too many stakes are involved here. It would be foolish to do that."

"Try me! If you kill Anna, I won’t think of you as my father anymore." Then I stood and hastened to the door. "If you still want me as your son, never harm Anna!" I slammed the door and returned home.

My father might only threaten me. Maybe he didn’t mean it. However, I could never be sure. I must find out where he placed Anna and rescued her soon. I sacrificed myself for the pack by accepting to be Lisa’s mate though it was in the name only. Yet it was still not enough.

If I didn’t fight back, my father could take everything away from me. Soon I would be a father. I couldn’t let my father send Anna away. I couldn’t let him take my pup either.

I took water and ice from the fridge and drank it in a gulp. It was hard not to be mad. Yes, he was my father, but Anna was my mate. If he dared to threaten Anna, he didn’t want me anymore. I took a deep breath several times to calm myself. Then I opened the mind link.‘Nate, come here, please?’

‘What’s up?’

‘I need your help. It’s urgent.’

‘Sure! Wait for a few minutes.’

After waiting for a while, Nate came, and he immediately frowned after seeing me. "Is this something to do with Lisa?"

"Indirectly, but it’s more about our father and Anna."

Nate creased his forehead more and asked, "What happened?"

"He told me Anna was pregnant."

"Wow! Congrats! You will be a father!"

"Thanks! But sadly, our father threatened me with Anna." I shook my head and messed up my hair.

"What did he want?"

"He offered Anna to give up our pup and leave the pack after giving birth to our pup."

"What?!"

"I told Father that I would leave the pack if he did that to Anna because she’s my mate. It’s one thing that he didn’t approve of my relationship with Anna. But by threatening to separate Anna from our pup, it’s too mean. How can a mother live far away from her pup?"

Nate tapped the couch with his fingers. "Maybe it’s only a bluff. Maybe he wanted to see how far he could control you."

"I thought so. But I can’t take any chances if our guesses are wrong. I don’t want to lose Anna again." Slumping my back against the couch and closing my eyes, I took a deep breath. "I failed her in my past life and made her life miserable. I want to redeem it in this life. It’s the second chance for me and her. No matter what it takes, I won’t let her go."

"So, what will you do?"
