Chapter 59: A New Ally?

Lisa asked Mimi for several things, so I talked to Melanie. "Melanie, how is your relationship with Jack?"

Melanie’s forehead creased immediately, and she looked around as if she didn’t know what she must say. She seemed awkward with my question.

"Well?"

"Uh, I don’t have any relationship with your brother, Alpha."

I blinked twice. "Are you sure? Ah, maybe Jack hasn't said anything yet to ask you to be his mate."

"To be his mate?" Melanie’s voice was pitching higher. "It’s impossible!"

"Why not?"

"Alpha, your brother only loves bullying and teasing me. He has no intention of having me as his mate."

I shook my head. "I disagree. He is inexperienced with women for sure, but he likes you."

Melanie laughed until her tears came out. She needed to cover her mouth with her hand and wipe her tears because she couldn’t stop the tears and the laughter. "You must be kidding!"

Then I whispered, "One of the reasons I asked you to help me find Anna is because I wanted you to be closer to my brother. He likes you, indeed. But he's too clueless to show it to you. I hope you will be more merciful to him."

Melanie shook her head. Later, she stared at the ceiling while raising her hands upward too, as if she didn’t know what she must say.

Then I asked her again with a low voice this time, "Do you have any progress with your searching?"

Melanie glanced at the stairs and nodded. "Yes, Alpha. I observed several places, but I didn’t find any weird things. However, a house next to Alpha Horace's—sorry, I mean Elder Horace’s—was guarded by some guards."

"Hm? Maybe my father used the next house as a warehouse?" I had never visited the house either. That's why I had no clue about it.

"But there were guards changing every … I don’t know. Maybe five to six hours?"

"Can you try to find out more? But don’t let any of the guards suspect you."

Melanie nodded. "I will think first about how to do that, Alpha."

"Thank you."

"It’s my pleasure to help, Alpha." Then Melanie left the living room.

Mimi showed Cameron’s bedroom to me. It was spacious and clean. They even spread rose petals on the bedsheets. I smiled, knowing it would be an enjoyable time with him later.

"Luna, do you need me to assist you? I’ll be glad to assist you since your maid hasn’t been here yet."

I smiled at Mimi. She was truly nice. "Ah, wonderful. So, Mimi, how long have you worked as a Psi here?"

"It's been five years, Luna."

I nodded. "I see. As the Omega’s leader, you must know Anna Warren." I stared at Mimi. "What do you think of her?"

"Anna?" Mimi licked her lips. "She is a hard worker and a loyal friend."

"She’s quiet and timid too. What do you want to know, Luna?"

"Quiet and timid, huh? But then, how could she stop my marking ceremony last time in our pack?"

"Since she has been Cameron’s mistress, I can’t allow her to disturb my relationship with Cameron."

I smiled a little. "It makes sense, but he can also keep her somewhere. Can I trust you?"

"If you see Anna near Cameron, will you tell me?"

"My father-in-law will give me a special dowry. I will send the dowry to my pack. I want you to check the dowry from time to time in my pack. Can you do it?"

Bill said nothing for a while. ‘Sorry, I have something to do. What did you say earlier? A dowry?’

‘Why do you need me to prepare a room for that? You can save it in your room with your other belongings.’

I giggled and shook my head. ‘It’s a special dowry. I need a special room to keep it.’

‘You can say that because this dowry was a problem for me.’

‘What did you say? How can a dowry be a problem for you?’ Then Bill raised his voice. ‘If Cameron threatens you with the dowry, you can refuse it. Don’t let him make your life miserable.’

‘Yes! Anna Warren. You’re amazing! You could guess so quickly. Please prepare a room for her, will you?’

My brother laughed aloud. ‘I may want to keep her for myself too.’

‘Oh? What does she have until both of you want her?’ I asked.
