Chapter 61: The Deception and the Plan

I slept in a guest room while Nate slept in my bedroom. Since I heard nothing outside, then it meant everything went well. I asked our Theta to put something in Lisa’s drink so she would think Nate was me.

Nate was worried the hallucination herbs would affect his pup, but our Theta assured him it was safe. I couldn’t blame Nate for worrying about his mate and their pup-to-be. If our positions were switched, I would worry about Anna and my pup’s safety too.

Then my mind wandered to Anna. Where was she right now? Did she experience the nausea, headache, or dizziness that pregnant she-wolves usually had? I wished I were there for her so I could soothe her discomfort. I would spoil her as she carried my pup.

I wondered if I should try to search for her location myself. But it’s my mating night. Everyone would think it was weird if I wandered alone. It would be a disaster if they told Lisa about it. No, I couldn’t search for Anna now.

Then there was a soft knock on the door. I said, "Enter."

Melanie walked in after glancing outside. It was wise for her to be careful. "Alpha, I have some information that you may find interesting."

"Oh? What is it?"

"I wonder whether we can trust Psi Mimi fully. But I heard she would send Luna’s dowry to her pack soon."

"Lisa’s dowry?" I frowned and patted my chin. "What does it mean? I have sent the dowry to her pack. So I don’t think there is any dowry left to send."

Melanie approached me, took a chair, and brought it near me. After sitting, she said, "I followed Luna today, and she visited Elder Horace’s house."

I frowned to hear that. "What?! Why did she visit my father’s house?"

"I don’t know. But I only heard that she wanted to send her dowry to her pack."

I exchanged glances with Melanie. "Can it be that the dowry she mentioned is Anna?"

"I thought so, Alpha.” Melanie nodded quickly. “Because Luna isn’t close to Elder Horace. So her visiting him alone is weird."

"I agree." I sank my back onto the couch and let out a heavy sigh. "Before the marking ceremony, my father also took time to talk with her alone. I thought it was normal, as she would soon be his daughter-in-law. Besides, it’s the first time he had had a daughter-in-law in the family."

"Yes." Melanie nodded. "He might want to have a good relationship with Luna Lisa."

"It makes sense, but why did he want to talk to her before our marking ceremony?" I patted my chin again. "There will be plenty of time and opportunities for him to build a relationship with Lisa."

"So should I follow them, Alpha?"

I shook my head. "No, it’s too dangerous. At least we already knew Lisa would send something to her pack."

Melanie nodded. "Also, why did she entrust the dowry to Psi Mimi?"

"I will talk with Mimi tomorrow. Great job, Melanie!"

"Thank you, Alpha." Melanie bowed her head and smiled at me. "It’s late. I will leave now. I hope everything will be alright." Then Melanie stood. But before walking away, she said, "I miss Anna. I hope she’s okay."

"I miss her too. I worry about her condition since she’s pregnant with my pup."

Melanie gasped. Then she covered her mouth with her hand. "Oh, she’s pregnant? Then, will she be in danger? If Luna Lisa dislikes her, she can get rid of her."

"But it’s still not sure yet if the dowry Lisa wanted to send is Anna. It’s possible she wanted to send something else," I said. "Lisa is not mean, you know."

"But since Anna is her rival to get your love, who knows if she wants to get rid of Anna." Melanie hugged herself. "I’m scared to imagine what can happen to Anna."

"You must pray a lot for Anna. Meanwhile, I may ask Nate to find out if it’s true that Lisa wanted to send Anna to the Hurricane Dawn Pack."

Melanie nodded. "Yes, Alpha." She was before the door when she said, "If you need me, contact me. I will do anything for Anna. She’s a great friend." Melanie almost shed tears, but she wiped them away instantly. "Anna is always there for me when your brother and his friends want to bully me. She’s my protector." Melanie sobbed but covered her mouth with a hand to muffle the voice. "I want to be her strength too. I want to help her when she needs me."

"Thanks, Melanie. I’m sure Anna will appreciate it."

After Melanie left, I stared at the ceiling. If my father sent Anna to the Hurricane Dawn Pack, it would be dangerous for her. Bill Shadow might want to hurt her. I couldn’t let him have her. Besides, Anna was pregnant. If he forced himself on her, she might lose our pup.

The more I thought about everything, the more I was worried. The best thing we could do to avoid the problem was intercept the delivery. With Mimi as the sender, I wondered if I could persuade her to shut her mouth. Besides, she was my pack member. She must place her loyalty to me first before Lisa.

I thought more about how I could stop Mimi from sending Anna to the Hurricane Dawn Pack. Well, if it’s true, she would send Anna there. But then Nate contacted me through the mind link.

‘Cam, are you still awake?’

‘Yes, for sure. What’s up, man?’

‘All went well. Lisa believed me to be you. It’s crazy to think how her mind’s messed up badly. She even called you repeatedly, not me.’

‘I’m sorry, Nate.’ Then I shook my head, as I could feel his frustration too. ‘I was also confused when I found out that she changed her mind for the first time. They must drug her.’

‘Can we ask our Theta to do some detox, then?’

‘Yes, I think it’s a good idea. We can talk with our Theta tomorrow.’

‘She kept saying it was you who mated with her, not me. It hurt me …. She even said the pup’s father was you, not me.’

‘When everything is solved, she will remember you again. Then she will recognize you as the pup’s father. I’m sure of that.’

‘I don’t know. What if she has never recovered? What if she has never remembered me?’

‘She will, Nate.’
