Chapter 80: Dinner
~ Melanie ~
I had no choice other than to follow Jack to his car. Our Alpha was a meanie. He forced me using my own words to go with Jack. But our Alpha and Anna didn’t meet for a while. I guessed I must let them enjoy their time together though they could do it after sending me home. I let out a sigh.
“Hey, why are you sighing?” my enemy asked.
I glared at him. “Not your business!”
He laughed and touched my back, nudging me to walk to his car. “Come on. We need to go home.” Jack opened the front door and waited for me to sit.
I eyed him, too suspicious if he wanted to bully me again. I scanned the seat quickly, then I glared at him. “No trick!”
Jack laughed hard and pulled my hand. “You are quite a suspicious woman. Get in!”
After sitting inside, I looked around. His car was clean. No scattered clothes, shoes, or any items in the front seat. I glanced backward through my shoulder. As far as I could see, there was only a bag and a box there. My enemy might be a tidy man, but it didn’t remove all of my doubts. Who knew if he wanted to trap and bully me? One couldn’t change so fast.
When he entered the car, that was when my stomach growled. My face was hot immediately because I didn’t expect the sound would be so loud. As it was quiet in his car, my stomach’s sound was too loud.
Because it was in the intersection, and the traffic light showed red, he stopped. “Hey, Melanie, let’s go eat first somewhere. I’m hungry too. What do you say?” Jack smiled. It was a genuine smile.
I only shrugged. “Up to you. If you want to go somewhere to eat, I’ll follow. But I don’t have enough money to pay if you go to a fine dining restaurant.”
Jack shook his head. “It’s my treat. Let’s go, then.”
He drove the car again, and we didn’t talk because we weren’t friends. Though when I stole a glance to see him from the side, he was not bad. I gazed at him again. Okay, I admitted it. He was handsome. If he didn’t bully me, I might be interested in him.
Many she-wolves wanted to be his mate, but he had never dated with them. I wondered if he was an anti-commitment one. I shook my head. Why did I think about him? It wasn’t my business if he didn’t want to have a commitment with anyone.
Then a thought crossed my mind. Was he interested in werewolves instead of she-wolves? If it was the answer, it would make sense. I gazed at him, secretly of course. I didn’t want him to know that I took a glance at him. His head could be so big if he knew.
The car stopped again at the intersection. He coughed. “So, Melanie, what kind of food do you like?”
“Anything.” He only asked now after driving for fifteen minutes. I couldn’t understand him.
“Well, maybe we can try to eat unusual stuff.” He grinned at me.
“Like what?”
“Well, snake, rat, and such like that?”
See! I knew it! He was a bully! “Stop the car!” I shouted.
“Hey, no need to yell! I can hear you well.” He didn’t stop the car and kept driving slowly. The traffic was light today. So none honked at him to drive faster.
“You only want to bully me. I don’t want to eat the weird food you mentioned!” I pouted. How could I think of him as a handsome guy while in reality he was such an annoying person?! I must lose my head. I scratched my head. Maybe it was the prior tension from freeing Anna. Yes, it must be the reason. Otherwise, I wouldn’t think Jack Black handsome.
Jack laughed and shook his head. “You are weird. I asked you what you wanted to eat. You said anything. But when I suggested we chose exotic food, you were mad at me.”
“Who will eat those things?” I grimaced. Only thinking about those, I didn’t feel hungry anymore.
“Well, those are nutritious and delicious food somewhere. So, just because you don’t like them, doesn’t mean that others dislike the food either.”
He got his point. So, I only shrugged. “Okay, let’s eat pizza.”
“Pizza?” His forehead furrowed. “Are you sure you don’t want to eat steak or anything else?”
My stomach growled again. Steak was one of my favorite foods. But sadly, I didn’t have enough money to pay for it. My salary as an Omega was low. Though Jack already stated he would pay for our dinner, who knew if he lied?
As our pack was in the Moon City, we had double currency. First, the Moon dollar. Second, precious stones (gold and silver). The precious stones were available in coins, plates, and bars. For my salary, I would receive it by the end of the month using Moon dollar currency. It was a thousand Moon dollars. It was the middle of the month, but I only had four hundred left.
Hopefully, Jack truly paid for our dinner. Otherwise, I couldn’t prepare if I needed to pay for any urgent expenditure. Though I lived in the Omegas’ House with some Omegas and didn’t need to pay rent, we needed to buy our food. Well, Anna might move out of the house soon. I could bet anything after today, Alpha Cameron would want her to live with him. I wondered if I could find another job so I could save more money.
My wandering mind stopped as Jack touched my cheek with his hand. “What are you thinking?”
I shook off his hand. “Don’t touch me!”
“Hey, I only asked nicely. Your mind seemed a hundred miles from here.”
I sighed. “Well, I’m thinking about finding another job. I need to get more money.”
“Why?” he asked.
“Because I may need it for emergency needs.” I shrugged. “Maybe I need it for my dowry,” I mumbled, because I didn’t want Jack to hear it.
Yet he grinned. “Dowry? You don’t need it. I will provide it for you.”
