Chapter 87: The Meeting (2)
Nate grabbed Lisa’s hand, but she shook her head and snatched her hand away from Nate’s. “I must do this. I won’t run away from my responsibility.” Her stare was calm but sad. “I admit everything. I brought Anna from the Wild Wolves Pack to the Hurricane Dawn Pack. Then I threatened to harm her because I hated her.” Lisa shut her eyes for a few seconds. “But in my defense, I did it outside of my conscience. I just discovered yesterday, it was my father who drugged me so I couldn’t differentiate between Nate,” she said, glancing at Nate, “the father of my pup, and Cameron. My memory was messed up badly until I thought Cameron was my pup’s father. That’s why I hated Anna ….”
Nate stood and held Lisa’s hand. “Please, Elders, don’t punish Lisa for this. Yes, what she did is a hideous crime because she is our Luna. She must protect her pack member. However, she wasn’t herself when she was under the drug influence.”
“Nate, Lisa, please sit down,” I commanded them. When Nate glanced at me, I nodded, reassuring him to let me handle this.
Nate led Lisa to sit. She slumped her shoulders and sat. Her head bent and she wept without sound. Nate pulled her into his embrace and consoled her. I took a deep breath. It was a difficult situation for all of us. We all are hurt because of what happened.
“I didn’t want to reveal everything because I didn’t want to add more damage.” I was silent for a moment, thinking about what I should say next. “Lisa and I had our marking ceremony because Lisa was under the drug influence. She agreed to be my mate because she thought I was her pup’s father. None of these would happen if the former Alpha Fred Shadow didn’t drug Lisa.”
My father stood and looked around. “I ask permission to speak, Alpha.” Without waiting for my answer, my father said, “If you all need someone to blame, I’m the one who will take the responsibility. I pushed my son, our current Alpha, to agree with the marking ceremony. In fact, I pushed her by taking Anna as my prisoner.”
All Elders looked at each other after my father’s confession. Their faces showed they were shocked to hear his words.
“I have tried to change Cameron with Nate. At first, it was successful as Nate and Lisa seemed like each other. How can I guess my in-law would do unacceptable things to force Cameron’s hand?” My father took a deep breath and let out a heavy sigh. “Please, don’t blame my daughter-in-law and my son. It’s my fault. But I did it because I didn’t want to shed more blood because of the war between packs.”
Elder Tom stood. “Elder Horace, we honor you as our former Alpha. We respect your honesty. I can understand your reason for pushing the marking ceremony between Alpha Cameron and Luna Lisa. However, with what happened yesterday, we can’t deny Alpha Bill has done a terrible thing to our pack member. Trying to rape our people is enough reason to break the peace treaty.” He looked at me. “I believe we can ask him to be responsible for that. Besides, if we reveal what his father did to our Luna, it will be ugly. But we can do it in the packs’ union if they want to slander us.”
“Thank you, Elder Tom,” my father said. “I know you can always see things from the right perspective.” He nodded. “I will leave the decision to our Alpha and Elders.”
I felt better after listening to what Elder Tom said. He was a good man. That’s why he let my father be the head of Elders, while he was in charge as one before. But he didn’t mind stepping aside and let my father be the chief. When the heart was right, it would be clear through the action.
“I’m glad we have a wise Elder among us.” I smiled at Elder Tom. Then I nodded at my father. “Thank you for your honesty, Father. I don’t blame you because, as the former Alpha, you had the responsibility of protecting our pack.”
My father nodded. He smiled at me and leaned his back on the chair. He looked relieved.
“However, with what happened yesterday, I can’t ignore it or assume nothing happened. Yes, I’m involved personally because Anna is my woman. But even if she weren’t mine, as our people, I believe I will protect her.”
An Elder raised his hand. “Wait a minute, Alpha. That’s the problem I think.”
“Do you care to elaborate more?” I asked him.
“As you are involved personally with Omega Anna, it’s the main problem. If you didn’t take her as your mistress, the former Alpha of the Hurricane Dawn Pack didn’t need to drug his daughter. Our Luna didn’t need to have memory distortion. Omega Anna wouldn’t be sent to the Hurricane Dawn Pack. Also, she wouldn’t experience the attempting rape.”
I frowned when I heard it. “So, your point is it’s my mistake?” My voice’s pitch was higher. “Anna is pregnant with my pup. She will deliver my offspring soon. Do you mean I shouldn’t care for her?” My eyes squinted to stare at the Elder.
Before the Elder replied, another Elder stood. “Alpha, our Elder has his point. We just received a complaint from the Hurricane Dawn Pack. They requested you to return Omega Anna to Alpha Bill. They will forgive how you and two of our pack members infiltrated their pack and brought along Alpha Bill’s woman.”
I hit the table. “His woman?! Anna is my woman! He tried to rape Anna. Can’t you see it? He forced himself to my woman while she was pregnant with my pup. If he succeeded, maybe I would lose my pup.” Then I laughed hard. “Forgive me for infiltrating their pack? They have lost their mind! I should kill him for trying to harm one of us!”
