Chapter 94: Scarlet and Mistress
We had a busy morning afterward. Mimi guided some Rhos to enter the living room while she disappeared into the kitchen to prepare snacks and drinks. At first the Rhos were perplexed when they came. They stared at Cameron to get a clue of why he asked them to come to his house.
“Please, have a seat first,” Cameron said, gesturing his hand to point at the couch. “My woman will join us soon.”
I could hear Cameron as his living room was connected to the hall. I didn’t rush because I was careful when I stepped downstairs. When I was in the living room, the Rhos stood as they might already guess that I was the one Cameron referred to as his woman.
I smiled at them and nodded. “Thank you for coming. I need your help a lot.”
“We, not only her,” Cameron corrected me. He offered his hand to me, and I held it while I took a seat too. “I think my father or Elder Tom hasn’t told you anything. But besides Mimi and Melanie, you will be the first people who know about our upcoming event.”
The Rhos paid attention to what Cameron said. Some of them moved their body forward from their seats to listen better to what Cameron would say.
“We had a meeting in the Great Assembly room today and also here fifteen minutes to a half hour ago. The meeting decided that our current Luna would step aside from her position.”
The Rhos glanced at each other. A few gasped to hear it. I could understand their reaction considering Cameron and Lisa’s marking ceremony just took place two days ago. So, knowing Lisa was no longer our Luna surely was shocking. But they commented nothing and waited for what Cameron would tell them next.
“My father and Elder already gave their permission and blessings for Anna and me to be mates. In three days, we will have a marking ceremony and an announcement of Anna as a new Luna.”
Another gasped come from some Rhos. “Three days! We must hurry!”
“Yes!” Cameron grinned, holding and squeezing my hand. “I will let you discuss the details with my mate. Anna, they’re all yours.” He kissed my forehead and left the room.
The six pairs of Rhos’ eyes were directed at me. “Uh, what should we call you, miss?” a Rho asked.
“You can call me Anna.” I smiled. Knowing it was awkward for them as it was for me. But as we would work together, I didn’t want to make them feel uncomfortable.
The Rho shook her head. Some others also did the same. “No, we can’t call you only by your name. How about Luna? Considering Alpha said you would be our Luna soon.”
That was when Mimi came with a tray. She brought orange juice in eight glasses and some sandwiches.
“Mimi, what lovely sandwiches!” I smiled at her. Though she just served me in a day, Mimi knew I was often hungry.
“Your pup must be hungry, mistress. Please have a bite or two first. The Rhos can plan what your marking ceremony dress will be while you are eating.” Mimi put the glasses on the table and offered me a small plate with a sandwich first.
I took the plate gratefully. The whole meeting with the Elders before, then the second meeting with Cameron’s father and Elder Tom, and now with the Rhos made my stomach famished.
The Rhos smiled at Mimi. Maybe because Mimi finally gave them a glimpse of light what they should call me.
“Please have the sandwich and the juice too,” I said. “Let’s eat and drink while we are discussing this.”
“Mistress, what do you have in mind for your dress?” a Rho asked me. “I think a mild green mint or emerald dress will be perfect for you. It will stress your eye color.”
“A red dress will be wonderful too,” another Rho added.
But one of them protested. “No, a red dress won’t do.”
“Why not?” the one who suggested it asked. “Mistress’s red hair is glorious. Having a red dress as her marking ceremony dress will be grand.”
The Rho, who protested before, coughed and shook her head. “Sorry, but it won’t do.”
Her friend frowned, and I was curious because I loved red dresses too though I didn’t mind the green dress. So, I asked her, “What’s wrong with having a red dress for my marking ceremony?”
The Rho gulped, and she avoided staring at my eyes. She pretended to cough and instantly grabbed her glass, sipping it. Probably she expected me not to pursue her with my question.
But after the Rho put the glass on the table again, I asked her again. “Well, what’s wrong with the red dress?”
The Rho scratched her head and coughed again. “Uh … it’s ….”
I put my empty small dish on the table. “You can say whatever comes to mind. Please, I’m curious because personally I like red dresses too.”
“Uh … mistress, I hope you won’t take offense, but ….” She gulped and helplessly looked at other Rhos. As none of them said something, she finally said, “But from what I understand so far, you are our Alpha’s mistress.”
I nodded. “It’s correct. Does it have anything to do with a red dress?”
“Uh … “ The Rho scratched her head again. “I’m sorry, mistress, but some may perceive the red dress as a scarlet color.” She bent her face and bowed deeply. “I don’t mean to insult you, but it’s better we choose other colors.”
I giggled and waved my hand. “Ah, I see. You intrigued me.”
The Rho seemed relieved to hear my giggle. She raised her head again and smiled at me. “I’m glad you didn’t take offense at what I said.”
“I can understand your thoughtfulness in this matter. Thank you for concerning me.”
“Oh, Luna … I mean, mistress.” Then she grimaced, realizing the word’s meaning.
I giggled again. “Consider the meaning of mistress in another word. Yes, a mistress can be perceived as another woman, but she can also be the woman in authority.”
Mimi nodded. “The latter meaning is the reason I called you mistress. Because I knew you were our Alpha’s mate from the first place, not our former Luna.”
