Chapter 96: A War Threat
Three days was too short to prepare for our big event. As it was a once in a lifetime event, I wanted it as a moment I could treasure forever. At first, I didn’t get it why Elder Tom suggested it. I agreed because I was happy I could be Cameron’s mate, and no one would suggest that he had someone else as his mate anymore.
However, after taking a nap, I wondered if it wasn’t too hasty. I didn’t need a grand ceremony, but three days of preparation seemed too rushed. Yet I changed my mind, as I already had my dress. The Rhos also chose the same color shade of flat shoes for me. They even prepared a special veil. I was eager to see it, but as it wasn’t finished yet, they asked me to be patient as they wanted to surprise me on my big day.
The Mus showed me kitchen in their building. Though they worked daily in many houses, they had a building to work in whenever our pack had a special event that required them to work together. Evelyn, Elder Horace’s maid, visited me every day to see if I had anything I wanted to eat. If I asked something, she would cook it for me.
I didn’t see something weird, but Evelyn and Elder Horace seemed close. Well, yes, she was his maid, but it was as if they had a special relationship. I might be wrong, but they looked good together. She was always there for him, serving him in any way she could. I wondered if she cooked me various meals because of Elder Horace’s request.
When I didn’t ask her to cook me anything, Evelyn brought a mint candy she made. She smiled and said, “Elder Horace reminded me that pregnant women might need this to calm their stomach.”
As my pregnancy had already reached the final weeks, I didn’t have any nausea. However, I accepted what Evelyn gave me gladly. I wanted to have a good relationship with my future father-in-law. If it was his way of making up with me, why didn’t I accept it? He didn’t have a bad intention when he wanted to separate Cameron and me. It was part of his obligation as the former Alpha to do anything to protect his pack.
I let out a sigh. Since I would be a mother soon, I could understand him. If I were in his position, and my son could be a key to the peace of our pack, I might do the same as what he did. I took a mint candy and closed the beautiful crystal jar from Evelyn.
After chewing it a little, I smiled. “It’s tasty. Thanks for the candy.”
“Anytime, dear.” Evelyn gazed at my round stomach. “When is your due date?”
I rubbed my belly and smiled. “Between this week or next week. I will be a mother soon. I’m so happy, but also worried.”
“Why?”
“I don’t know.” I shrugged. “With so many things happening, it may be good to deliver my pup soon. But what if my pup is affected by my stress?” I shook my head and sighed. “Well, ready or not, I must be ready, right?”
Evelyn reached out her hand and held my hands. “You will deliver a healthy pup. You will be a proud mother soon, and nothing will take away your happiness. Believe it, dear.”
I nodded. “Thank you, Evelyn.” I grinned at her. “Are you a psychic too who can predict the future?”
She giggled and shook her head. “No, but everything will happen in its time, and thinking negative ways will only worsen yours and your pup’s health. So, instead of worrying, affirm your mind of peace, calm, and happiness.”
“You are right. Thank you so much!” I squeezed her hands.
But then Evelyn creased her frown and gasped. She covered her mouth with a hand and gasped again.
“What’s wrong?” I asked.
“Nothing. But I must return to Elder Horace’s house.” Evelyn stood and bowed her head at me. “Please have a good rest, my dear. Soon, you will be our Luna and the mother of our Alpha’s pup. Be happy!”
“I will.”
I accompanied Evelyn to the door and waved at her when she left Cameron’s house. Cameron insisted I use the term ‘our house’ instead of ‘his house’, but I could be as stubborn as him. Before our marking ceremony, I would still use the term ‘his house’. After that, I would embrace it as mine too. So, the marking ceremony would be a symbol and the beginning of many things. There would be a huge responsibility for me as a new Luna, but also a celebration because I would have Cameron as my mate.
Then, suddenly, Cameron walked toward me as if he knew I was thinking of him. He frowned too, but seeing me, he stopped walking and kissing my lips. “How can you be prettier each time I see you?”
“Smooth talker.” I punched his chest lightly and giggled because of his sweet words. Then I closed the door, tiptoed, and kissed his lips. “Hmm, you are tasty. Can I taste more of you?” I teased him.
He groaned and kissed my neck. Then, suddenly, he moved an arm-length from me. “Though I want to ravish you right now, sadly I can’t.”
“Oh?” I raised an eyebrow. “Is there any urgent meeting?”
He blew his breath. “Yes. I hope it won’t affect our marking ceremony. But I will discuss with Nate, Jack, my father, Elder Tom, and other Elders how to handle the situation.”
“What’s wrong?” I grabbed Cameron’s hand.
“Don’t worry. We will be alright.” He kissed my forehead and opened the front door.
However, I blocked his way and spread my arms, so he couldn’t pass the door without bumping into me. “Please, tell me. What’s going on?”
Cameron let out a heavy sigh and shook his head. “Bill threatened us to send you back to their pack. Otherwise, they will attack our pack.”
