Chapter 99: Unfinished Business
It was a smooth trip, as the traffic wasn’t as full as usual. I checked my appearance through a small mirror I bought in my handbag. Everything looked good. I smiled to imagine what we would do on our date. Maybe we would go to a romantic dinner, then continue to a nearby hotel to spend our night together. As I wore a white lingerie matched with my dress, I imagined it might create a virginal impression.
Letting out a sigh, it was weird. Though in the second life I was a virgin again but I didn’t embrace the moment as a virgin. I thought I wasn’t a virgin anymore because Bill—the vampire—raped me and stole the moment from me forever. But who would have thought I was given a second chance? Even in the second life, I didn’t know I was reborn as someone else.
Both experiences were painful, but with Cameron, it was brief and more surprising than shocking. I guessed we couldn’t expect everything to happen according to our wishes. Having the second chance itself was more than I could imagine and expect.
The interesting thing was that in both lives, my man had never expected me as a virgin. In both lives, we started our relationship with no false hope of true love. Though at the end of my past life, I couldn’t have a happy life with him, it was a huge relief to know Constantine had loved me.
Now, in my current life, I finally could taste the happiness I longed for. I rubbed my belly and smiled. Everything seemed perfect. With our pup, who would soon come to the world, then our marking ceremony, the announcement of my being his Luna, what more could I ask for? I let out a happy sigh. The Highest One truly blessed me with more than I could wish for.
The limousine stopped when my mind was still wandering. The driver opened the door for me and offered his hand to help me get out of the car.
“Miss Anna, are you sure you don’t want me to wait for you?” the driver asked.
I shook my head. “No, I will enjoy tonight with our Alpha. So, no need to wait for me.”
The driver scratched his head, but then nodded. “Very well, Miss Anna. Enjoy your time together.” Then, after seeing me for a few seconds through the side window, the driver finally drove the car and left the Moon Bridge.
It was Thursday afternoon. Humans were busy with work, businesses, and studies. The werewolves and other supernatural creatures didn’t normally hang around at the Moon Bridge, either. So, I only saw a few humans, mostly couples, walking together hand in hand.
I was actually confused, as it was odd Cameron chose the Moon Bridge for our meeting point. But who knew he had his reason? It must be! Otherwise, why did he choose this place instead of a million others? I would walk to the bridge to see the scenery. It might be a breathtaking one there, so he wanted me to enjoy it together with him.
Before going there, a florist offered me a bouquet. “Miss Anna?”
I nodded. “Yes, I’m Anna.”
“A bouquet for you, miss. It’s from …” The florist checked the card first, then smiled. “Cameron.”
I smiled and nodded. “Yes, it’s my lover.”
“Oh, how romantic! He said he would wait for you in the middle of the Moon Bridge.”
“Thank you so much!”
I carried the bouquet with both hands because it was a large one. Walking to the bridge step by step, suddenly, I was dizzy. I stopped and almost kneeled on the ground, but then I remembered wearing a white dress. Kneeling would taint my dress with dirt.
Taking a deep breath, hoping the dizziness would go away, I only to find it worsened. Then, suddenly, I realized something. The bouquet had a distinctive scent I couldn’t recognize. I tried to inhale, but my temple throbbed and I almost fell because of the sharp pain in my head. What’s going on?
Before I could do anything, a pair of arms hugged me from behind. Then a voice whispered in my ear, “Finally, you are here. I can’t wait to spend time with you.”
I tried to turn my body, but I almost fell. The voice wasn’t Cameron’s. When I saw him, I gasped. “You!”
He grinned and gripped my waist. He held a handkerchief in his hand. “I won’t let you fall, my darling.”
I gasped, trying to breathe, but he smothered my mouth and nose with the handkerchief. Shaking my head, I said, “Chloroform? It won’t do.”
He laughed a little. His eyes shone with evil intention. “I’m not stupid, you know. Chloroform only worked for humans. For werewolves, surely I use something stronger.” Then he grinned and pushed the handkerchief tighter to my mouth and nose. “It’s wolfsbane.”
Wolfsbane/monkshood/aconite was a wild flower that was toxic for humans and also for werewolves. It could kill werewolves by drinking the toxin (aconitine). Even inhaling it could weaken us. The bouquet was poisoned by the wolfsbane. I knew it now.
I held my breath, trying to fight as I knew I was tricked by this lowly traitor. He was one of our pack members. No wondered he could set everything, knowing many of our people to use and deliver the messages. I reached for my neck, touching the diamond necklace.
“It’s from Alpha Bill. He wanted me to send it to you. He said you were his woman, and he wanted you back.” Michael Wolfe, aka Kenneth, smirked. “Then I came up with my idea. He agreed to send you the necklace.”
“Why did you do it? You betray your own pack. You cooperate with our enemy!”
Michael shrugged. “I don’t have a sense of loyalty to anyone or any pack. I will bend to whoever can give me profit.”
“Then release me. I’m sure Cameron will give you anything.”
He laughed and shook his head. His hand touched my cheek and neck. “I won’t let you go because we have unfinished business.” Then he bent his face and kissed my neck. “This time, I will make you scream my name repeatedly. I won’t stop until both of us are satisfied.”
